medical records proudly presents a special limited edition of all 3 “forgotten tracks, sketches and unfinished work 2002-2004” by martial canterel as a triple gatefold set. volume i was released previously in 2013, and volume ii and iii are simultaneously being released by medical records as standalones. sean mcbride has been producing work under the martial canterel moniker dating back to 2002 as well as working as half of xeno and oaklander. these tracks capture the allure and depth of sean’s early work exploring rhythms and perfectly crafted pop songs using a very early incarnation of limited instrumentation. fans of martial canterel’s early work (think “austerton” and “sister age”) will be instantly elated. this is the first time these tracks have been released on vinyl and have been remastered for this release by martin bowes at the cage, uk. contains special bonus insert with lyrics. fans of early martial canterel as well as other cold wave icons such as a blaze color, snowy red, and the like will need this collection. presented on high-quality 180gram classic vinyl in a triple gatefold pack.

an object resists changing its state of motion with inertia. what pushes back must then be even more vigorous in order to create a uid movement. an example of the force that embodies this dynamic can be found clearly on the appropriately titled inertia, aiken’s much anticipated return to chronicle. the spanish artist has been spending years honing his craft, focusing on sharp, distinct sounds that create a pure sense of kinetic energy. the title track of the ep bolsters a erce disarray of carefully (de)constructed atonal synthwork and a rhythm section that is set to detonate. it is then followed by “axial”, a track that stays as true to modular miscalculations as it does to stripped down techno, combining both in a subliminal cessation of sanity. however aiken isn’t done there. he continues with “magnetism”, which throws a brick in the glass of conventionality with its earth-shaking layers of textured momentum. phased pads then wash over “soul drama”, bringing the entire experience to an emotionally laced denouement. after the potency of his last record on chronicle as well as his releases on imprints such as his own label timeline and the spanish powerhouse semantica, inertia marks a de nitive step forward for an already exceptionally de ned artist.

alr001 is tech-house based track features one late-night club cut of pure, padded brilliance. the original mix is a meditative, as it blissfully sways between softly thumping bass and euphoric synth snippets. hamburg based well known dj cess (formally from also known from cocoon booking) re-edited the track for dj s with a male spoken monologue that, despite being a tad pretentious, actually kind of weirdly works. fittingly, its the most dance floor appropriate of the bunch and would slip nicely into a bleary-eyed, 6am sunrise set.

cessas third release on their missing link sounds imprint is another typical blend of styles that evades characterization. having recieved massivee support from the likes of mary anne hobbs, laurent garnier, sbtrkt, geiom, mr scruff, and top a & r man ross allen amongst others, cessa return with their strongest release to date. >recon< sounds like a blend of the best of good looking/ promised land-era d & b with more immediate 2 step/dubstep sensibilities that produces a great mix of rolling beats and a melodic soundscape. recon was given the sbtrkt treatment on an earlier mls release and returns here in its fine original form. >down & out< opens with an eerie acoustic double bass intro that descends into an upright synth-led floor filler, while still maintaining cessas love of restless arrangements and beat programming that strays away from the usual.

for the 5th installment of adultnappers illustrious ransom note, we welcome into the fray paul kominek, otherwise known as pawel (dial/orphan ear) with two sublimely beautiful compositions of modern electronic music. there is not many words to describe the feeling of these pieces. they run deep into the soul of house and techno. moving, yet intelligent, pawels plaintive take on dance music is unique in sound, but profoundly universal in feeling, connecting to emotions that seem rare these days on the dance floor. with powerful peak time remixes by new yorks alexi delano and brendon moeller, ransom note part five should make some noise in the coming months. from the desk of adultnapper, as inspired by lines and curves… as you well know, parallel paths are foreordained entities of diversity. as they travel further away from their origins, the more attraction tends to set in, not as a spiritual mechanism, but, rather, as a physical replication or limitless mimicry. one trajectory makes reference to the other, leading to a barrier, a zero crossing, some sort of cessation of thought. lines become curves and act as waking agents for the soul as it approaches its limit. sometimes this process is disrupted, as is the case this time. i have lost something on the way and i seem to be stuck in the place where i lost it. i feel anchored here and need to find a way to move again. there is not much time.
