hot on the heels of bmm 002 comes the latest instalment of the birdsmakingmachine series – bmm 003 – a package combining their signature sine-bass laden grooves, steel drums and oblique melodies. >antonios swing<, as the title indicates, literally swings listeners into its rhythm with dark vocal snippets layered onto soft stabs and eerie melodies. >woodpeckers<, on the a2, takes a more linear approach, an effective dj-friendly tool that will please dancefloors in the late hours of the night/early hours of the morning. on the flip, in >silk road< we find a captivating, yet mysteriously funky minimal house affair that builds and builds until finally erupting following the break. the ep is rounded-off with >dead lines<, a broken themed galloping of bass kicks fused into moody melodies and reverberated far cries, resembling a genuine excavation into the depths of house music – another example that the birds are always trying to redefine the genres boundaries.

who the fuck is s.e.p.e.?

after the huge success of degree 002 by nick curly, which was played a lot on the hot summer festivals 2013, the label now comes up with its 3rd cracker called >nature calls ep< of the three romanian guys horatio, elchinsoul and gruia. three well-known artists, who will again let degree impact on the dancefloors around. despite the stylistic variety of three producers, a clear golden thread runs through the sound. it combines the sultry soul of romania and lets the blood boil in your veins. all in all degree again releases a totally different record, which however has its typical style. high-class sound which is told by artists, who tell more than just one story. a powerful ep for each moment in life and on the dancefloor.

having launched the n16 loving newington label with a split release from a range of bubbling uk house talents, waze & odyssey turn to a more familiar name for the second release with the cross flatts ep from pbr streetgang. formed of the wonderfully named bonar bradberry and tom thorpe, pbr streetgang have been quietly accruing a respectable discography since the project was founded oop north roughly five years back. elevated into wider consciousness last year thanks to some stellar 12 inches across hot creations, 20:20 vision and futureboogie, it makes perfect sense for bradberry and thorpe to add the similarly minded newington label to their cv with both cuts on this 12&#8243,,, fitting snugly into the current lexicon of vocally driven deep house.

tyree coopers all you need is house ep is a proud celebration of the genre, done chicago style and rammed home by marco’s wailing vocals. through solid drums and strong vocal hooks, coopers original beats down hard justifying the need for a 180g pressing. it rattles and hums until dropping into a tom-drum and snare solo similar to runaways *brooklyn club jam*. bobby starrs mix brings marcos teddy pendergrass-sung vocals to the fore, while milty evans gets a little techier with a cut up approach, adding white noise flashes and lots of filterwerk. cooper second take comes via a classic dub which draws a link between squelchy baile funk and a masters at work drum track.

hmcs most recent offering of techno and house music, city rhythm, (juice 002) is a sound typical of his influence on dance music culture in his hometown of adelaide, australia. from pre-internet days when scenes throughout europe and the us were created on the back of techno and house music, a smaller but just as significant scene had developed in adelaide, celebrations were a weekly occurance on adelaide dance floors and dj hmc was responsible for the playlist.
