raidens label always comes with something different from the usual d&b formula rubbish. martsmans track is very impressive, with his refreshing future sound. on the other side its business as usual from raiden with help from khanage, its funky, and not as full on as normal, but again right at the cutting edge. martsman got into drum&bass around the end of the 90s. debuting on new york based offshore recordings in 2005, he released on smaller as well as established labels like alphacut records or counter intelligence in the following years. in 2008, tracks on warm communications and hospital records sub label med school attract the attention of a steadily growing audience also from outside the drum&bass scene.

>gobbldigook< is the spectacular opener of sigur ros recent album >med sud i eyrum vid spilum endalaust<, undeniably one of the most hymnic songs they have written thus far. fellow islanders stephen stephenson aka presidentbongo (of gus gus fame) and jack schidt couldnt resist but to transform the complex, polyrhythmic original into an exceptionally ethereal club track. when the angelic voice of jon birgisson unfolds on a club soundsystem it reallyfeels like you are in heaven. the ultraslim percussion groove takes over the tribalistic atmosphere of the original but catapults it some hundered light years forward into the future. thomas fehlmanns remix on the flipside is nothing short but sensational. we have no clue how he managed to turn this song into a schaffel but we salute him and take this as another unmistakable sign that the schaffelfieber is rising again in cologne, berlin, reykjavik andelsewhere ...

madlib got a bit lost in his detour into jazz - madlib medicine shows 7 (high jazz) and 8 (advanced jazz). he was supposed to circle back with a punch-you-in-the-face return to hip-hop form - a collaborative album with detroit rapper frank nitti - but instead he found himself lost in the lost gates... a place where black soul (madlib medicine show 10) really means disco funk. sorry about that. the good news is: hes back. and that hip-hop album, for which the medicine show faithfully have been holding their tickets, is finally here. its called lowbudget high-fi music and its a interesting look back at the madlib medicine show and a prelude of what is to come in the 12th, 13th and Ð maybe Ð 9th releases in the series. all of the regular madlib collaborators Ð med, guilty simpson, strong arm steady Ð are represented here with exclusive tracks. karriem riggins pops in for a supreme team interlude, as does a.g. madlib digs out a jaylib-era track that was earmarked for the never-realized second album and, of course, interludes, outerludes and Ð probably Ð queludes abound. the madlib medicine show series is a combination of madlibs new hip-hop productions, remixes, beat tapes, and jazz, as well as mixtapes of funk, soul, brazilian, psych, jazz and other undefined forms of music from the beat...
