bladder by the light is a conceptional compilation between obsolete future and the parisian painter marion guillet. it was compiled by marion guillet & conor walker.
michael klein trip image is a juggernaut of modular thrumming and pulses, ushering a cacophony synthetic noise and pulsing percussion. trip image holds true to being hallucinogenic and raw, chittering insect-like synths with angular drumming. taste starts off as a frisky cacophony of blips that builds into a proper darkroom mover. the modular synths and bass are offset properly with the tension that breathes in whisper. the cascade of glitchy bells and pulsing beat define touch throughout the piece. smell has thrumming drums which cement the raw, groaning bass to its foundation.
often found cruising around on music for dreams, bonnie & klein sidle up to is it balearic? with the appropriately smooth sounds of 1983. taking the concept of island boogie to a blissed-out, peak ideal, 1983 answers the record label question with a resounding yes this is as balearic as it gets. shaking up the sundown sweetness of the original, ron basejam is on hand deliver a remix that should get plenty of dancefloors working hard. it s still steeped in vintage sounds, but basejams version piles on the funk and rides a fierce disco beat to ensure the record lands in legions of record bags, as it quite rightly should.
the 80s italo disco /proto-house classic ‘mbo theme’ by the mighty klein & mbo, repressed! comes with an heavy (and unheard) south african version on the flip. huge tip! the mbo theme (1983) has been a dance floor favorite since decades, created by mario boncaldo and tony carrasco - the legendary italian/us duo klein & mbo. the track got support in nyc and chicago by greats as larry levan, frankie knuckles and ron hardy.
the rare version on the flip is created by a south-african band called warrior. rush hour explain how they came across the track: “we bumped into this version on a south african record digging trip. it took us a few months to realize the scarcity of this version. ian osrin, a well respected engineer in south-africa who was involved in many 80ties and 90ties bubblegum, kwaito and south african disco records, explained us about music distribution in south africa during apartheid.
the mbo theme represents one of the first hits on the early days of chicago house movement. now came back with the plus of the unreleased italian version (on the side b instead of the unnecessary radio cut). this project is being managed by mario boncaldo the same man behind some other great italo-disco projects like tullio de piscopo - stop bajon and plastic mode - baja imperial today is enriched with this unreleased edit produced by mario himself back in the days and availabel only on the studio tape this cut is more heavy and club oriented because there are no vocals so there is more space for synth and bassline parts, a must play for every set!
nice price deal !!! limited repress! vienna based meat recordings is back on vinyl with another compilation showcasing the labels diverse approach towards techno music. the four-tracker features tunes by gerald vdh, specific objects, matt mor & chris klein as well as bort, which range from boomy big room techno to old school acid bangers.

bonnie & klein can often be found cruising round labels like music for dreams and leng, imparting tender touches of balearic finery for those who like to cruise on the slinkiest of 80s flavoured jams. they re on cracking form for this return to uber, kicking off with the sultry -tones of ballad-, which gets a subtle beefing up from drifts projects on the remix. -pretty lake- is the cut for those who want to achieve pure transcendental bliss by way of canned slap bass and sustained chords, and then -snowdrifts- finishes the ep off with a thoughtful piece shaped out by sweet piano and stirring strings.
following some ear-catching manoeuvres across releases like last year s self-released only and lagata , which gained her early fans like bjork and dev hynes (who she supported in the usa), tommy marks klein s deepest plunge yet into the “deep, dark ocean” of her musical imagination on her hyperdub debut. on tommy her vocals play with fifties-esque melodies before switching to familiar tones akin to brandy and rodney jerkins, her live voice and live piano playing filtered through hyper-glitchy and looped production with a loose, internal logic, cutting from angular atonality to pockets of skewered harmony. tommy also steps things up in conceptual terms. its eight tracks are broken down into acts that are rooted in themes of vulnerability, sisterhood and death, threading the chaotic sonics with modern operatic undertones and a shakespearean sense of tragedy. there s a lot of bluster about originality in contemporary uk music and what rises from the noise here is a creative voice who, by her very nature, plays with the construct of what pop is
