the 80s italo disco /proto-house classic ‘mbo theme’ by the mighty klein & mbo, repressed! comes with an heavy (and unheard) south african version on the flip. huge tip! the mbo theme (1983) has been a dance floor favorite since decades, created by mario boncaldo and tony carrasco - the legendary italian/us duo klein & mbo. the track got support in nyc and chicago by greats as larry levan, frankie knuckles and ron hardy.
the rare version on the flip is created by a south-african band called warrior. rush hour explain how they came across the track: “we bumped into this version on a south african record digging trip. it took us a few months to realize the scarcity of this version. ian osrin, a well respected engineer in south-africa who was involved in many 80ties and 90ties bubblegum, kwaito and south african disco records, explained us about music distribution in south africa during apartheid.
the mbo theme represents one of the first hits on the early days of chicago house movement. now came back with the plus of the unreleased italian version (on the side b instead of the unnecessary radio cut). this project is being managed by mario boncaldo the same man behind some other great italo-disco projects like tullio de piscopo - stop bajon and plastic mode - baja imperial today is enriched with this unreleased edit produced by mario himself back in the days and availabel only on the studio tape this cut is more heavy and club oriented because there are no vocals so there is more space for synth and bassline parts, a must play for every set!

a heady mix indeed, stirring jazz overtures with orchestra and choir, festival performances recorded live from the grassy heartlands of central europe, modal montages inspired by pilgrimages to asia and africa, experiments in rhythm and sound where modern jazz meets traditional balkan and flamenco folk music. this is spiritual jazz - european style.
what you now hold in your hands is a collection of jazz music from the former german democratic republic (gdr), compiled by jazzanova. this mixture is an attractive blend of latin-influenced swingers, tricky waltzes, bossa flavoured bop and big band monsters. recorded in the 60s, these locked away treasures document the pure and individual sound of the little-known east german jazz scene. all the tunes were originally released by the state-owned amiga label, the only record company available to east german jazz musicians. the unique and refreshing vibes of these rare recordings from behind the iron curtain are always in our dj boxes, as they merge smoothly into the club sound of the 90s jazz movement.
