repress , swedish disco aficionado drop out orchestra has been plying his trade in the world of slick edits and on-point party fodder for the best part of ten years now, and now he comes to riot gear with a sure fire club classic to share. there s no prizes for guessing the source material on -holding on-, but in this context the evergreen crossover jam gets a modern steroid injection, having never sounded more contemporary than here. yam who? sidles in for a remix that does a subtle job, simmering down some of the familiar vocals and making a slinkier cut that still hits hard. -knucklehead- brings a little more jacking drum machine action to the table, but still disco is the main order of the day, while -where is my man- takes the prize with its on point jazz funk licks and stomping beat.

one of house musics true originators, todd terry was first discovered by pioneering new york house imprint fourth floor records. now the label has collected four of his earliest and most essential productions on to one 12inch vinyl. the a-side houses a pair of tracks created under his black riot alias in 1988, both featuring his trademark raw, jacking drums. the unmistakable rave stabs on a day in the life were to reappear on countless hardcore records, testament to the tracks influence, whilst the cut-and-paste sample patchwork of warlock defines the house sound of that era. meanwhile, the b-side features two tracks as masters at work, a moniker that todd would later pass on to his friends little louie vega and kenny dope gonzalez. both alright alright and dum dum cry, originally released in 1987, exhibit terrys musical roots, combining hip-hop breakbeats, powerful electro-funk and playful freestyle melodies in his inimitable style.

wie es scheint sind alle begeistert von santa cruz track mais uma chance, einem der herausragenden songs auf der letzten too slow to disco brasil edition. der berliner jack tennis hat für uns seine magischen hände an den track gelegt und eine dj-freundliche yacht-disco version abgeliefert, die santa cruz selbst so begeistert hat, dass er uns persönlich darum bat diesen remix zu veröffentlichen. jack tennis ist ein berliner produzent, der kopf vielerlei projekte ist. er veröffentlicht seine eigene musik unter dem namen hotlane (gomma records) und liefert stetig disco-edits für das einflussreiche uk disco label midnight riot (von yam who!). um die veröffentlichung abzurunden, konnten wir die italienische rework/edit legende les inferno überzeugen uns seinen unveröffentlichten track brazilewis einen chill-out slo mo groover zur verfügung zu stellen. die nummer findet sich schon seit einiger zeit in jedem dj supermarkt set! les inferno veröffentlicht auf samosa records, eines der hippsten neuen edit/rework labels, das eigentlich strictly vinyl ist. seine tracks wurden z.b. schon von niemand geringerem als moodyman in seinen sets eingesetzt. eine streng limitierte 10inch mit den beiden tracks wird es erst ende august geben.

having already earned his balearic stripes some time ago, as one of the resident djs at we love. at space in ibiza, ian blevins has since relocated to berlin, and has been immersing himself in the esoteric vibes of the city. on the strength of his latest ep on futureboogie, this is clearly a good thing, as the round trip ep is laden with the deep magical vibes that have also shaped his recent releases on labels like banoffe pies, not an animal records, blind jacks journey and esp institute. on round trip, an abundance of driving, arpeggiated synthesizers weave around sparse yet sturdy drumbeats, as thick pads rise and fall in dramatic fashion. panthera krause (permanent vacation/riotvan/lobster theremin) is on board for the remix of round trip, re-shaping the original into a merry, space organ led, tribal dance, with a splash of garage house vibes that soon become immersed in its own synth heaven, its a cracking remix from the leipzig based producer. on rolands rat, blevins keeps things tight with soaring strings, organ stabs a strolling bassline for a quality jam, whilst can you count my dream? is a dense, and cinematic slab of transcendental dance, an almost claustrophobic atmosphere only intensifies the drama and delivers the heat that seals this superb ep from blevins.

having previously impressed with vivid blends of cosmic r&b, skewed space-pop, glistening post-ambient soundscapes and mangled, synth-laden grime, rising star throwing shade (aka producer nabihan iqbal) demonstrates her dancefloor side with a killer 12- on happy skull. -chancer- and -blanx- both retain iqbal s uniquely intergalactic aesthetic,whilst flitting between jacking, chicago-influenced house rhythms and jazzy, off-kilter dancefloor grooves. synths sparkle, while vocal snippets drift in and out of the mix. the 12- is completed by a riotous, predictably heavyweight remix from kowton, whose guttural techno grooves are peppered with cut-up samples of iqbal s distinctive, dreamy vocals.

limited to 250 copies !!! on august 4th 2011, the sony music warehouse in enfield, north london was attacked during riots and looting that affected many areas of the capitol over the course of a week. the warehouse burned down completely, taking with it millions of cds and vinyl stored by the distributor pias including the back catalogue of freerange. the blow was devastating for many labels, with the logistics of manufacture and minimal insurance payouts meaning that recreating the entirety of their old stock was completely impossible and many releases have been lost forever as a result.

analogue cops >chamber< is a strong dark track in which a massive 808 drum explosion runs together with an ultra-pitched down voice sample. rushing percussions, piercy hi-hats, a breathless progression. an experiment which turns into a solid club tack.
on side b, >still me< represents lucretios vocation to neoclassicism. the time disappears and a gospel organ full of motown reminiscences reminds the most soulful works appeared on planet earth. dramatic and sweet, its evocative and hopeful. lucretios track on rst006 appears on tama sumos >panorama bar – mix cd<.
>mauzy< is marieus deepest track on restoration. beat-down smashing 909 drums, punchy snares, delightful piano chords, sharp cymbals, a praising voice. a track for a spiritual elevation, a track to dance until the last second. a track to listen to a million of times.

another impeccable production from the slyde boys, with driving beats, infections vocals, and outstanding remix by man of the moment twocker. the a side is breaks at its best. the bassline weaves its way through the sonic stack as posh seduces with her flirtatious lyrics. an outstanding remix comes courtesy of pete tong faves twocker, whose previous remix skills have run riot on cj bollands sugar is sweeter and morillos we like to move it. their genre crossing slyde remix hits all the house buttons, with a jumping jack intro and intense punchy bass lines which juxtapose perfectly with poshs vocals.

its almost 4 years to the day that jeff samuels >throatwobbler mangrove ep< was released on karloff #03, and even today the four world hits of the record are getting digged out by djs, when the minimalism needs to either groove or jack again. so now with >return of the throatwobbler< theres finally an appropriate follow-up by the man from seattle.. erm.. berlin, after he’s impressively run riot in the meantime, on labels like spectral, trapez, poker flat, frankie and logistic. the a-side >terso< is shuffling and twirling and bouncing in such a winsome way that not many can master like jeff samuel. almost like an electric ray - left and right and left, and without letting any tempting gimmicks take the mind off the straight path. appropriately enough, >the spook< on the b-side comes along a bit more spookily, with a bassline twisting into the brain, ripped up by miniatures of bleeps and chords just in the right moments, and thus leading the track to an agile, exhilarated climax
