we are proud to announce the latest addition to the moonshine recordings artist roster - halcyonic & g roots - two young talented producers out of bristol, uk. their debut moonshine release entitled “future” with vocal support from junior dread and additional remix by violinbwoy will be released on the 6th of july on 180 gram vinyl.

dread recordings have remained on the forefront since they began releasing music in the early 90s. since then, both drum & bass and the imprint have moved from strength to strength, with dread staying true to the sound which remains a pinnacle of the genre’s roots. and alongside head honcho, ray keith, the british legend that played a pivotal part in the early jungle scene, their a&r skill has remained the same since their first signing. their subsequent lp ‘ray keith presents: margaman’ is a testament to this, rolling out a definitive part of the dread recording’s roster to bring this 2 track 12- sampler to the thirteen track album which once again puts their commitment to drum & bass on a podium.

lp version. kingston sounds present a reissue of knowledge s debut album hail dread, originally released in 1978. the group knowledge and tapper zukie s stories are intertwined through their location in the rema area of kingston.

the “natty dread a weh she want” set brings together two legends of reggae music. the stylish and unmistakable falsetto voice of singer horace andy and the production/dj singing skills of tapper zukie. both artists catalogues of music stand up strong but this, originally released 1979 set of songs seems to have brought something special out of both of them when producing/writing and arranging this set of tunes. “natty dread a weh she want” was a massive hit when it was released by tapper zukie and horace andy but this timeless track still sounds as fresh today as the day it was released in 1979, as do the other tracks on this fine album.

u-roy was a true reggae pioneer, dubbed the originator for good reason. bursting onto the jamaican scene in the earliest 1970s, he pioneered the vocal approach called ôtoasting,ö which in addition to branching out jamaican music into a new era, was also heavily influential on an american genre in its infancy: rapping. on dread in a babylon, his third full-length, he stretches out over traditional roots grooves provided by the soul syndicate and skin, flesh & bones bands, riffing on topics including love (ôrunaway girl,ö a 1975 single released in the uk on virgin records), the bible (ôthe great psalmsö), walking the straight and narrow (ôlisten to the teacherö), and even his take on governmental policy goals (ôchalice in the palaceö). the album finishes with an instrumental version of bob marley & the wailersÆ ôtrench town rock,ö for good measure. u-royÆs style and charisma are always on display, and û as with all of his classic records û the groove rules all. presented on black vinyl with a poster of the glorious, ganja-drenched cover art, itÆs the perfect chance to revisit one of the more underrated voices in jamaican musical history.

first time reissue of the very first dub lp released in nyc, 1975! part of the genesis of the jah life label! first time reissue of kaya dub from 1975, noted as the first ever proper dub lp pressed and released in new york city. the eponymous lp is among the first set of releases on the kaya label. this imprint was the first to showcase the partnership of percy chin and hyman jah life wright as producers and cornerstones of the burgeoning nyc reggae scene of the day. though these tracks originate from jamaica thru a connection with pat jah lloyd francis and have also been released elsewhere, this is none the less a killer selection of dubs from tubby s and randys. in sound and visuals, kaya dub serves as a fantastic snapshot of the music and vibes of roots reggae in the mid 70s, among the best dub lp s of its time.

violinbwoy’s debut full length album is nearly here. the 12-track lp entitled “dod” will be released in october by moonshine recordings.

next on version is a remix set by the legend that is benny ill of horsepower productions. on the a-side you will find a stunning techno steppers rendition of orson’s -rise 6-. check the b-side for orson & hops -dread drumz- getting benny’s unique jungle treatment. both sides are tried and tested in the dance and have been rinsed on radio by respected djs such as kode9 and n-type. version 006 - the benny ill remixes - is a true soundsystem weapon and will be a killer in any serious selector’s war box.

bob marley is still immensely popular, even 20 years after his passing. reason enough for music on vinyl to reissue bob marley & the wailers 1974 album >natty dread<.
the oft-covered >no woman, no cry<, the infectious and captivatingly cool >lively up yourself<, the ska-inclined >rebel music<: this is just a hint at what >natty dread< has to offer.
we cant expect any new bob marley songs, but we can gladly rediscover his classics over and over again. time to put these tunes on heavy rotation!
