the first release of our new project studio mule is a cover of japanese 80s dance classic carnaval by taeko ohnuki. is studio mule a band? unit? we never have fixed member except kuniyuki takahashi as a track maker. we invite who we love. the first gest is our beloved miyako koda aka dip in the pool. you remember the reissue of on retinae on music from memory. miyako koda is one of the most carisma model in japan in 80s and the vocalist of experimental pop band dip in the pool. dance edit on a side is true to the original. off course more playful than original. extended edit on b side is more club friendly house version.

third release of studio mule’s new project with miyako koda aka dip in the pool. following the cover versions of ohnuki taeko’s carnaval & mariah’s shinzo no tobira, we made the new version of japanese pop ambient classic “face to face by yumi murata”. extended edit on a side is full of the respect for the original version and ambient version on b side is simply emotional. the first album of studio mule is coming in the beg of next year. stay tuned.

talk of japanese soul often refers to enka, the sentimental ballad emanating from downhome bars and karaoke boxes. from the late 1960s, however, reverberations from across the pacific would lead to the nation’s own take on soul music as we know it in the west. some of the artists showcased on this compilation may not have been commercially successful but their legacy stands the test of time.
