RIDE THE RHYTHM (RON HARDY & FRANKIE KNUCKLES RMXS)
12 Inch 01.04.15
marshall jefferson, ron hardy & frankie knuckles collaborating across 2 sides of a single 12inch need we say more? obviously that s a dream line-up right there & of course the results of such a meeting of minds is nothing short of outstanding! just listen to the record & you ll see! essential business... -ride the rhythm- came out on trax in 1986, making it one of the -first wave- house records to land & make a massive impression here in the uk & in europe. marshall jefferson s fingerprints are all over this bad boy, his massive piano riffs, non-stop bass-lines, the pounding drums, everything about this record is just huge! he had an incredible knack for making accessible, club tracks with cross over appeal that the underground heads clamored to get hold of at the same time. throw frankie & ronnie (literally) in the mix & you ve got solid, classic, all-time gold on your hands (& turntables!). fully re-mastered, re-pressed & re-released for 2015 in it s original format with the permission & participation of all rights holders with all original trax label artwork intact.
currently causing quite a stir on the underground, the jerome hill remix of marshall jeffersons s trax classic lost in the groove is a complete re-interpretation, solid jacking (hard) house music using the original vocal that s cut loud onto the vinyl and worms inside your head and has been doing serious damage in the clubs and festivals last year. now with all licensing and red tape cleared away, it s set for release. dancer boom boom is actually a collaboration between acid legend adonis and sidney winters, with a mix down by house legend frankie knuckles. this sat on the b side of am a dog on trax records and is rare & obscure to say the least, but once the needle touches the groove you know it s a killer. massive kick drums and mysterious organ scales, this one is a mad mad tune ! produced in 1987 (and sounding like nothing else from that year) it s been given a very slight and very respectful re-arrangement by jerome hill, remastered and cut super loud. strictly limited and if the previous titles on the label are anything to go by, this one will sell out equally quick.
on a mission records is the new label runned by jef k and rhythm&soul. focused on keeping alive the spirit of house music that inspires their own musical background. the first release comes with their project: the groove brothers. a classic flavoured house package that shows the label identity. the a side starts with -soul food café-. a strong 4x4 beat, house chords, some vocal hits and catchy piano melody. an everlasting groove. -everyday- is a track made to shake girls on the dancefloor. a funky bassline and a r n b vocal sample that slowly goes warmer and warmer. a summer tune that shows that both producers really like it when things goes sexy. on the b side a remix of -soul food café- by nottingham house legend, nail. a powefull remix that brings his extraordinary touch. floating chords a boundless groovy pad and a pumpy bassline that drives the original track into a timeless uk house anthem.
incl. tracks from j dilla, dj jazzy jeff, larry gold, dj spinna and will.i.am and from legends such as pete rock and marley marl. in addition there were albums leftfield heavyweights king britt and madlib. last but not least the set included a session of unreleased poetry from american literary giants - allen ginsberg, peter orlovsky and greg corso whose well documented movement lent its name to the series.

the groove brothers, aka jef k and rhythm&soul, keep things moving with the second release on their fledgling label, on a mission records. it’s been seven months since the label’s debut, demonstrating the duo’s considered approach to their outlet, which has been set up to capture the true spirit of house music, basing its ideals on some of the industry’s most respected labels and keeping that timeless, classic ethos alive. this second release unites the label owners with a couple of newcomers to the scene. retaining the sultry outlook of the first release the groove brothers inject jazzy notes and smooth funky rhythms into their music, while mr ks and kub follow in a similar vein with their well-crafted contributions. ks expanding on the jazz theme, while kub takes a more sensual pathway.
