sascha borchardt aka monoloc is a dystopic atmospheres fanatic that has dedicated his life to the dance floor from an early age. the frankfurt-born artist’s raw yet sleek take on techno and ambient has evolved to characterise his own musical style in his productions. monoloc’s sound is a mixture between techno, dub and ambient, nurturing a tone that is driving, groovy and low-slung, but with greater emotional range. he acquires most of his inspiration from old movies and likes to work mostly with field recordings in his productions. ‘the untold way’ on dystopian is his second album, following his first in 2012, and shows a notably matured development in the artist’s style.

the young senators are an exemplary progenitor of dc’s hyper-local, hyper-celebrated go-go scene. peers of chuck brown’s black heat and soul searchers, the septet was led by energetic singer and conga player jimi dougans, and featured saxophonist leroy flemming, guitarist calvin charisty, keyboardist frank hooker, drummer james johnson, bassist wornell jones, and trumpeter phillip guilbeau. the band issued two singles on the the tiny innovation label, before joining up with motown’s eddie kendricks in 1972 for his sophomore effort people…hold on. the young senators’ fuzzed-out brand of psychedelic soul is often bootlegged, but finds it first legitimate release in 45 years via these remastered sides.

the true definition of a “rare-groove”, “windy city theme” is a triumphant, funky paean to the spiritual home of the blues, jazz and house music. often closely guarded by the rare record cognoscenti this scarce 45 on the chi sounds label was originally released in 1976 and became a solid staple of london’s underground rare-groove scene, finding favour with dj’s like norman jay and giles peterson with the track even appearing on their groundbreaking “journeys by dj” mix. b-side cut “show me the way” is not to be overlooked either, a smooth, stepping soul number with lush orchestration and yearning vocals featuring the amazing arrangements of the chi-sound orchestra, sounding like a beautiful cross between mfsb and marvin gaye. an utterly essential 45 for any serious soul or funk fan, legitimately repressed and remastered with love on dinked 45 for 2016.

when kellerkind published his first tracks on sirion records in 2008, nobody ever considered the success story of marco biagini s alter ego. eight years later he looks back on numerous releases, among others on stil vor talent, flash, katermukke or hive audio. his record debut on sirion in 2012 another breakthrough, with special mention required for the title song “disco on the dancefloor”. it’s with this song that kellerkind has definitely won the hearts of his audience and thus left a lasting aftertaste which continues until today. his fourth ep on sirion with the promising title “way out” builds up on the 2010 published “altro mondo ep”. three reduced techhouse tracks promising pure dancefloor feeling with finely assorted forward directional sound elements and smooth deepness. the slightly hypnotic vocal smasher in christian nielsen remix carries nicely with the three tracks in every way and completes the catalog number 42 elegantly.
