while focusing on his side projects admx-71 and traversable wormhole the past two years, the pioneering forefather of the industrial techno groove adam x returns on sonic groove records with an extended player entitled “bedeviled”. adam mixes a recipe of rhythmic noise industrial, classic rave and post contemporary techno rolled across three songs. creating the perfect mix of sound and rhythm aimed to torment dancefloors into submission during the peak hours of the night.

the ep entitled deceased unknown, a seemingly morbid piece of art (art/music) but look a little deeper! this ep sees b12 pick up the pace from their previous firescope release brokenunbroken “coduktor” an organ plays some subtle chords behind this track while beautiful drums skip along on top, to create a sonic backdrop for the very quirky melodies and top lines that constantly evolve and interpolate. a spiritual experience ? “dont look down” 808 and 909 drum and pads always a killer combination add to this an odd malformed bass line which never really reveals quite what it is doing makes for a pretty interesting track. don’t look down where is the question “blue and green capsule” a pumping kick drum sets the pace for this track which builds up using classic b12 style drums. the swirling pads and sliding melodies interlaced make this track reminiscent of “epillion” as featured on the classic b12 album “time tourist” on warp records in 1996. a track you can move your feet as well as your head to “minor decay” brain decay , world decay , urban decay , human decay , music decay, unavoidable decay - a simple straightforward techno track using its simplicity to conjure up feelings of sadness and thoughtfulness as well as joy and hope. a new hope finished in glorious red with black splatter vinyl with exclusive artwork by sarah sparkes

a few years ago i saw a documentary about the audio trickery employed in ww2. i was totally flabbergasted and soon absorbed anything i could find on the subject. artists and scientists alike cooked up incredible situations to fool the german army. inflatable tanks and trucks stacked with speakers projecting recordings of an imaginary reality were used to deceive and deviate the opponent. this odd scenario influenced me profoundly and drove me towards composing music that related these feelings. the project only collected dust inside my head until radio bongo heard of it and encouraged me to finish. sveinbjörn bjarki jónsson aka sonic deception

redredred from muenster (germany) is coming to tell a story with his debut ep. shifts between deep rough techno tracks, warm house tunes and ambient pieces like a master. still, other musical influences are present as well. significant here is his distinct sound design. constantly revealing new elements almost like a nightly walk through an empty city under a foggy blanket. this ep is more than a travel companion as it delivers tracks that are definitely suitable for a club.

midgar welcomes the bordeaux based von grall delivering four dense, immersive cuts. first of the list, *a secant line*, is an acidic and powerful mantra, opening the gates of sonic virtuality. in the second track, *the slope*, fast paced rhythmics and cold ambiances bring some severity to the record. on the bside, the melodic and slightly dreamy excursion *apply the definition*, while *limit value* close the record with a solemn concoction of offbeats drums and mechanic nightbirds.

ras g is one of the definitive producers of the los angeles beat scene, a co-founder of the poo-bah label, and hip-hop beat-maker who digs probably deeper than any into the worlds of free jazz, jazz fusion and afrofuturism. the prolific producer currently has two albums on brainfeeder, two released by poo-bah, and several on leaving records, including the beat tape series raw fruit. focused and expansive, el-aylien is a cosmic exhibit in ras g’s sonic explorations of collage and rhythm.

dead fader returns with his new album *glass underworld*. dead fader is the alter ego of john cohen - former brighton resident, now based in berlin - who has worked relentlessly since 2007 to realise his vision of electronic music. his tracks are characterised by pioneering sound explorations, which on one hand oscillate between sonic extremities and on the other hand carefully craft cinemascope sound worlds. *glass underworld* became a very personal exploration for john, developing further his emotionally tinged brand of techno which he established with the previous ep sun copter. furthermore, the film interstellar visually influenced the album, mapped as an image for cohens tracks to exist in. the vinyl release is limited to 300 copies and comes with download code included.

following up the fantastic summer re-release of upsetting keys “empathy” ep, path records follows with its first new catalogue number since 2006. path 008 marks the return of artist fate 258, whose 1999 “why 2k” path 001 ep has been a hotly sought after item on discogs. the three-track ep contains two exciting new mixes of cult classic techno track “the path”. the a-side version “path to hell” is the harder of the pair, a dark edgy journey into the unknown with shuffling 808 rhythms providing much of the melody. “path to heaven” slows the groove down and adds warm juno pads throughout the mix for a very deep detroit flavored techno style. on the final track “heaven or hell” sort of a broken beat downtempo piece, sparse vocals and bladerunner samples mix to complete the dystopian concept. these mixes of “the path” are considered pre-mixes, as they were completed in 1998 before the original release of path 001. fate 258 is a project from brooklyn producer reade truth, known for his work over the last decades on labels such as planet e, sonic groove, n-syde, wurst and strictly rhythm to name a few. limited to 250 worldwide, with the first 100 including full black and white cover art.

dax j with a slamming techno ep on soma

drumma records presents its second collaboration with romanian duo vinyl speed adjust (vsa). the ep titled the awakening shows us vsas intelligent approach to music, an ideal fit at drumma records where creatively effervescent music is embraced with open arms. the record has 4 tracks. the eponymous the awakening is a special trip between break rhythms, modern jazz and a dreamy perpetual arpeggio. it creates a great mood for artists who want to present something special during their set. a2 is the grind, a very strong and acid track with a powerful evolving bassline that creates perfect suspense. inspired by the 90s, its raw and its analogue, definitely a hot track. monoxide comes with a linear rhythmic pattern and a very deep sub-bass sound fused with trippy synth soundscapes, ideal to put in a mental note during a session. the release is topped off with an amazing remix by the great valentino kanzyani. hes brought his own approach to the grind. the remix is a track with very strong groove and an intelligent evolution that creates small sonic worlds at every turn. valentino knows how to masterfully work a constant crescendo where tension and rest is perfectly resolved and we can feel his approach to techno at its best.

amir alexander was one of plan b recordings’ first recruits. from his first submission, we knew his sound was perfect for plan b recordings. “sonic subversion” was released as a digital ep in 2010 and now receives a proper vinyl release. we feel these tracks sound even better now. their content is as timeless as ever. they have been slightly tweaked and re-touched by amir for this release, making them perhaps even more sonically powerful than the originals. three tracks of bubbly, banging goodness from one of our earliest comrades.

sonic ep is the second contribution of sawf to the modal analysis catalogue. the greek producer, and core member of the modal analysis roster, delivers a mind-blowing 4-tracker with a clear intention to interpret an industrial-noise aesthetic from a techno perspective. sonic#1 is a cut from the intro of sawf’s live set, offering a powerful combo of processed vocals and distorted soundscapes. sonic#2 comes as a long and stepping beast that creates the uncomfortable feeling of a horror movie soundtrack. on the b side, sonic#3 blends blurry vocals with rhythmic industrial elements on a breath-taking bass-line, while sonic#4 presents sawf’s charisma on impro-noise compositions. *sonic#4 was recorded at ‘sonic shelter studios’ in athens.

released for the first time on vinyl is max richter’s emotive and minimal score to damon lindelof’s tv series about a post-apocalyptic global event where 2% of the world’s population disappears without explanation. richter’s approach explores the feelings of the protagonist’s family, the garveys, through intimate, small scale music. he tackles this psychological landscape by bringing a ritual quality to the score, while themes of departure and loss are represented by a sense of sonic decay, relying on the instrumentation of a few sustained tones on pianos, harps and celesta. max richter is a classically trained composer that defies boundaries. trained at the royal academy of music and finishing his studies under the tutelage of avant-garde composer luciano berio in florence, richter’s career has followed many paths. his musical output ranges from ballets (wayne macgregor’s infra), reinventions of classical works (vivaldi’s four seasons), collaborations with the future sound of london, roni size and vashti bunyan to writing scores for film and tv (waltz with bashir, lost and found, last days on mars) and solo work (memoryhouse, the blue notebooks, 24 postcards in full colour).

a remix package which well represent the multifaceted approach of midgar to techno. edit-select opens with a long and groovy rework of lost in the instability , keeps the peculiar synth & basslines of the original cut, and goes further, carrying those elements to deeper dimensions. synthek delivers a stabbing remix of nibelheim , a killer techno cut where powerful broken beats continuously crash into the heaviest sonic waves. alba was originally an interlude solely composed of ambient sounds and ephemeral voices, which evolved with luigi tozzi s interpretation into a sweet and melancholic trip. wata igarashi to close the record, re-imagines pulse width as a mind-stressing experience held in a frame of hollow drones.

the original version is nothing short of a classic, but its as if the song had never been invited to a louie vega post-midnight global extravaganza. was the song not aware that spellbound dancing and high bpms were the standard for house music? normally, such a blaring disregard for nightlife decorum would relegate a song to the pits of sonic hell, but we’re talking about george clinton here! the original opens up with a g-funk groove that screams westside and lowriders. the listener is then blessed with clinton as he adds his sage, soulful and pimpadelic vocals, complemented by funkadelic singers asking him about the pains of the funk. the semblance of a beat that could drive the dancefloor into the morning hours is there, but in no way has it blossomed into its full glory. enter louie vega.

the head of grounded theory berlin returns to sonic groove with his strongest outing on the label to date. henning baer brings forth a rough and tough diverse four cut ep of chunky rhythmatic techno. recording the songs during live jams and using a previously decided pool of hardware this ep has a nice old school vibe. the sound production however is very much in the modern day with its well crafted mix downs. this release has strong mass appeal for the purist techno connoisseur.

the project named after his own label brand presents four cuts ranging from cosmic quantum nervous compulsion to introspection. harmonious combination of complex percussive rhythms gives way to the already identifiable sonic universe of 30drop that turns into an effective formula at any club aimed at the forefront of the electronic dance music. sacred geometry and style, concept and form, all to the service of the fundamental search. the roots are deep and horizon is vast. >superconductivity ep< extends the scope of 30drop positioning on the edge of the sideral dance floor.
