finally realized, here s one that was long on the dkr wish list. among the very finest moments from both artists, these brilliant interpolations of curtis classics have been unavailable too long. a mesmerizing rhythm adorned with the lovely sounds of hand drums, melodica and flute, mixed and dubbed to perfection by king tubby himself. this 12inch is a 6 track ep, with all four cuts as originally released on two separate 45s, plus two unreleased mixes straight off the original tapes. we like to think tubbs favored these cuts, as so many mixes were done! the dub titled super cool is, in our humble opinion, one of tubby s top 10 extant mixes. full disclosure, all tracks except super cool pt. 2 come from the original jamaican mastertapes. we suspect the pt. 2 mix was lost somewhere in nyc, but don t let that trouble you, this one should please all who have ears.

brother and sister eric and arrontette mcclinton had been recording for many years. around 1976 they did a 45 release together on honey records called -where you are- under the their christian names, although eric was spelled eryke! the single didn’t have much success but both brother and sister still went on to be amazing backing singers working for legendary producers mike theodore and dennis coffey. whilst they were under the watchful eye of the production team they recorded some material again and a duo for theo/coff in a bid to get them another record deal and show their capabilities. these songs never got releases. eric became and prolific song writer and also joined the group high fashion. we are super pleased to finally release the shelved songs from 1978. this in one of two releases by the duo.

for their first artist ep, super tuff revs up four tracks of high-octane house music from marcel lune. fresh off of an impressive lp for local talk, the uk up-and-comer again proves a knack for effective and subtle productions. the a side sets the mood with -moon sequence, a lush tune that builds to a cinematic climax. he settles into his groove with you can do it! a four-to-the-floor piano jam sprinkled with wonky synthesizers. on the b-side, lune finds himself unhinged on the open road with unknownz offering up a live drum groove drenched in bright synth stabs and triumphant string melodies. finishing the b-side, sun is all shuffled claps and peppy synthesizers that evoke the warm feeling of a sunrise after a long night out.

back in the day, french pianist, composer and all-round jazz superstar jean-françois quiévreux, a.k.a. jef gilson, was up there alongside the likes of peers john coltrane, oscar peterson, and sun ra. in a fitting homage to the decades worth of sublime music, and his sad passing away in 2012, french quarter palm unit have released a lively, honest tribute, upbeat and contemporary re-interpretative vision of his legacy

reissue of the sought after birth act of the afro and jazz-parisian scene that fascinated so many musicians and music fans throughout the 70s and 80s. comes in a heavyweight tip-on sleeve. considered as one of the most important afro-parisian jazz records of the seventies, soul of africa sees texas tenor sax giant hal singer team up with french pianist jel gilson, and his afrocentric, big jazz band. originally released in 1974 on legendary french imprint french le chant du monde, and re-issued in 2008 on dutch imprint kindred spirits, super-sonic jazz records provides yet another opportunity to get ahold of this driving, testament to spiritual, ethno-jazz.

its not often you stumble upon a 9 piece soul band, who were so close to signing a deal with mca’s new subsidiary source records. but group politics and other factors got in the way, and the band shelved what music they had recorded. no reels surfaced but fortunately a member had kept some of those 1978 recordings. between the two seemed to fuse great soul compositions without the durge of the disco era circa 1978. with well thought out lyrics, backed by keys, trumpets and a driving bassline we really are pleased to add the group to the super disco edit roster.
