karateklub suprises with hugh tracks from jenn, fantastically remixed by rebekah (criminal/uk). with >cheeky<, jenn presents a groovy and much more minimal side then we allready heard on her last ep. suprising and reduced, her sounds looping up and down, embedded in a clonky basedrum structure. the remix, made by rebekah, well known from her releases on criminal records, is just fantastic and completes the ep brilliantly. she desinged a hugh groove and pushed it forward. by adding her ideas she creates an excellent new track. the interface original is specified by stomping and jigging beats, which get intermitted by smooth voices and melodies, before pushing it up again. these girls have it and paint the town red!

played by sebo k, karotte... layo and bushwacka! are equally at home turning out summery housey affairs as they are peak time stormers, and >now is the time / the time was then definitely fits into the latter category. a double header, the loose concept behind the release is to represent the sound of the dancefloor now versus the sound from a few years ago. >now is the time< has its feet placed firmly in 2008 - a crisp, clean techno bassline, topped by hand claps, snatches of breathy female vocal, and full of an irresistible array rattles, whooshes and other indefinable sounds that the duo seem to pull from the depths of their imaginations. it breaks with some simple electronic sounding chords and a stirring martin luther king sample that makes this record so memorable. >the time was then< is based around that same sample, but gives a cheeky nod to a few years back, with a bassline and keys that wouldnt have sounded out of place on their seminal ‘night works’ album. it never goes too far towards nostalgia, though, and either would rip up a late night dancefloor

monotonix are a punk trio from tel aviv. they formed in november 2005, set up on the floor of the club with the audience, and the party began. but the party usually got too wild, the power got cut, the cops were called and monotonix were banned from playing again almost everywhere. before long, they were looking for good places to play outside of israel - and they were delighted to find that there are more rock and roll party places outside of israel than inside! today, monotonix are the hardest working rock band in the world. sure, lots of other bands work up a sweat, but monontonix are definitely the only band who puts in the kind of miles they do, and they rock rings around pretty much the rest of us too. these guys do two different shows in two different towns on the same day whenever they can manage it. but thats only the tip of the hard working iceberg. body language sounds almost like a monotonix show. the only thing you cant hear is the sound of your heart beating in your ears after having been chased around the room by a vocalist with his pants literally on fire, then getting dousedwith beer and dancing your ass off to the guitar riffage, then ending it all by carrying the drummer around on your shoulders while a few other guys hold his kit up so he can keep drumming. you dont end up quite as out of breath when listening body language, but you do get a ton of excitement anyway, courtesy of a killer guitar sound, precision power drumming and lusty lead vocals. they recorded body language with tim green (of the fucking champs) at louder studios in san francisco. it twists and grooves with all the fun and fervor of great rock and roll.

born and raised in nantes, france, the parisian r-play began his career in 2000 with the d-clik crew. parties and events organizer, dj and producer, follower of a minimal techno, r-play uses to share frenzied groovy drums and hypnotic or freaky sounds. his sets wander between many different dance floor styles. in 2003 he founded a first label hologram and then launched triumbeats in 2004 for his own releases with noaria, and produces many tracks in such different style like minimal techno, hard techno, ambient or world music. his productions are play listed and mixed by most of the greatest international artists.

first single to be lifted from the forthcoming lp is a flawless representation of some of the freakishly danceable tracks contained therein. a wholly original mashup of electronics, my heart rate rapid is sheer falsetto laden, drum battering brilliance. although metronomys elliptical, insidious, multi coloured art pop sounds nothing like colognes legendary purveyors of prog disco, can do offer clues to the lineage the band belong to. add early brian eno, sparks, devo, talking heads, soft cell, and then scratch your head for more recent examples of abstract music, full of experiment, risk, and individuality that somehow resolves itself into pop that makes you sing and dance and feel like a big kid and you realise that you cant think of any, because metronomy are, in the current pop milieu, an utterly unique proposition.

tony lionni is the new signing here at versatile. listening to papaia one cant help to think that 2008 will be the year that progressive house will make its comeback. it has been a long time since we had heard such a simple and effective kick and bass intro. the hi-hat then come in along with a small acid sound. the filter opens before the rhythm accelerates. in the middle of the track, the main melody gets dropped in, arms raise and the listener gets lost in the darkness of the night. on the b side, shuffle explores the deeper roots of lionni. the title is surely a reference to the beat, which is predominant in this track. once again the hi-hats are up infront mixed to percussive sounds, which undulate to the rhythm of the bass, making this track an essential tool, ready-to-use and be mixed into almost anything.
