the original version is nothing short of a classic, but its as if the song had never been invited to a louie vega post-midnight global extravaganza. was the song not aware that spellbound dancing and high bpms were the standard for house music? normally, such a blaring disregard for nightlife decorum would relegate a song to the pits of sonic hell, but we’re talking about george clinton here! the original opens up with a g-funk groove that screams westside and lowriders. the listener is then blessed with clinton as he adds his sage, soulful and pimpadelic vocals, complemented by funkadelic singers asking him about the pains of the funk. the semblance of a beat that could drive the dancefloor into the morning hours is there, but in no way has it blossomed into its full glory. enter louie vega.

arguably all but the most dedicated fans will have long forgotten most significant beat, a post industrial early 90s techno project from former clock dva man maurizio martinucci and esplendor geonetrico s saverio evangelista. this surprise vinyl compilation tells the story of their previously cd-only late 90s work, throwing in a previously unheard workout, the angular rhythms and sheffield bleeps of geometric state for good measure. for the most part, the material has aged remarkably well, and sits somewhere between the forthright madness of autechre, the spacey techno of detroit-via-frankfurt (see amy tekno) and the buzzing intensity of surgeon.

psyth launches with the debut ep from rob shields. with a delicate urgency driven by a pulsating post-punk bassline, shards lavishes layer upon rich layer of sound, evoking the cool grooves of peaking lights and chromatics, while a shimmering vocal sample from rebecca sawyer adds an otherworldly sense of longing that echoes through the soul of the release. silhouetted appears more conventional and dance-floor friendly next to shards, but under the surface is something unique and strangely exotic. a mantra-like melody loop gives a nod to minimalist composer terry riley and his solo organ works, while world instruments such as an african kalimba and tibetan singing bowl only heighten the hypnotic and intoxicating quality even further.

the first release from the new malka tuti record label introduces us to xen, a multi talented multi cultural singer, artist and designer from tel aviv. for her debut ep she went into the studio with the red axes lads to produce 2 original tracks for the a side as well as 2 different versions on the b side. after already collaborating with them on their track -this is it- for a correspondant records compliation on 2014, this time she takes a step forward and really brings out her post-cold-wave-some-wave attitude and delivers 2 psychedelic poppy tracks, highly influenced by german krautrock as well as british and french post-punk and israeli late 80s new-wave. on the b-side you can find a massive dancefloor remix from the red axes themselves as well as a secret psychedelic voodoo b-side.

italian records strikes again with another retro-futuristic step through its kult 80s catalog. in the late 70s gaznevada has been one of the most relevant italian punk-wave band coming to light from italian underground scene. in 1982 with i.c. love affair gaznevada moved from post-punk to new-wave pop electronic, this tune is, without any doubt, considered as a proto-house disco, an anthem on the most important clubs all over the world. for this special 2015 release italian records included in the package reconstructions by i-robots and giangi cappai, the already well know munk edit and finally & officially the david depino edit

up first, juice machine is a barreling cut with pinging drums that ride up and down in infectious style. carefully treated vocals echo up top and add a dub flavour as subtle rave horns and old school motifs also colour the groove. when remixed by re.you, the track becomes a more subdued, deeper cut with spraying synths and a sense of late night paranoia in the grooves. lastly, badass acid is a minimal cut with warm pads, hiccuping sine waves and a growing sense of synthetic tension. it s a masterful bit of slow burning craftsmanship that has icy hi hats to die for.

boom merchant follows up last years hugely successful *stars/green symphony* with another perfect balance of rhythmic and melodic elements. *surge* is a track that always generates a huge reaction, built around a tight groove with plenty of action in the low end. it is literally smeared with electrical charge and doused in layers of harmonic goodness.

johnny superglu s second release on plynt, rambo village is his darkest work to date, a mysterious, ethereal and hypnotic urban safari infused with the post-industrial spirit of his hometown of charleroi, a scarred, broken landscape of crumbling steelworks and decaying iron mills. pressing a disparate variety of antique, analogue audio equipment into service, it s a piece of low-fi knob-twiddling shot through with the spirit of chicago s house hey-day and iconic acid house with an instant dance floor feel. enter a moist world of dancing red-masked devils, driven by a hypnotic & mysterious flow that will freeze your blood.

max guld was a post-punk musician from glostrup, denmark one of the western suburbs of copenhagen. in 1983 he formed a band called den forspildte elite with a friend from high school taking inspiration from experimental art punks the residents. from the beginning of 1984 to the beginning of 1985, he recorded a solo album in his 30 square meter apartment. the result was a 40 minute cassette titled for enden af corridoren released in 1985 on hub records that was limited to 100 copies.

it is our pleasure to welcome triptil to aku001 with the official release of his micro, minimal, techno ep. triptil embodies romania’s emerging talent, and he enraptured us with innovative track production and top-tier dj’ing. we are now excited to embark on this adventure with triptil, and the record’s associated artwork is an additional sensory indulgence for hungry ears and eager eyes. gloved in a sleeve screen-printed by hand, the center of the vinyl is made of copper. information related to the release has been engraved in the copper. that said, there are only 300 copies, limited to one copy per customer. a scarce treasure for a rare talent.

title track joyride kicks things off with a straight up 909 beat, complete with scifi sweeps and classic wood block percussion, quickly working its way into an very subtle groove with every element working effectively to keep it fully funk laden. sideways completes the a side of the release and gets going right from the beginning. pumping percussion takes hold and hits the ground running before a perfectly weighted synth hook lashes over the top with henning playing with the synths lfo to creative effect. dust takes things down a notch as swirling pads drape themselves over a serious 909 beat. henning lets this one loop out, letting the subtle variations in the synths do the work as the 909 holds the beat solid and reminiscent of early berlin/detroit dub techno crossovers. mars attacks closes of the ep and does so in particularly fine fashion. a more broken beat affair this time from henning and he really works his machines into a sonic warfare of bass tones and tweaked out synths that sear through the crashing percussion workout.

if you are not a top end disco collector with deep pockets you wont know this record, it is as rare as its gets. the last clean copy went for $6373.

top quality remastered reissue on the original highly collectable us fire-sign records from super funky frenchman francois feldman aka ff yellowhand. both tracks on this in-demand 1981 boogie funk double hitter are pure dancefloor dynamite. side a has the long mix of *you want every night*, a party starting disco boogie dancer with an infectious funky groove, lush strings and a great english / french vocal. *can you feel it* on the flip keeps up the pressure with more blistering upbeat percussive funk. killer!

new imprint special edition launches in some style with a top release from the rather talented, emerging italian producer kiu d. this guy has been grabbing a lot of influential peoples attention recently and it is not surprising on this kind of devastating form. the man can produce and has a fine taste in music to match. pulling on influences from funk, disco and house music, he turns out 3 top class jams with super hi fidelity that are destined to set any dance floor on fire. definitely one to look out for and a great start for special edition!

on his second installment for holger, weber further expands the sounds and themes introduced on his debut eins (holger 4, 2014). adequately entitled zwei, it documents webers development and growing confidence as an artist. combining influences from early krautrock and minimal music to contemporary dance sounds, weber shows a refreshing appetite for experimentation and free form song structures. given these parameters anything seems possible: from the post-techno of sklt via the anti-pop of the bug to the spaced out b1 / warten and its ghostly dub companion no4

stay underground it pays returns! relatively unknown newcomer modula brings us a slab of ruff n ready analog cuts, with a real standout remix from fuckthegovernment! said remix of controllo by f.t.g is so good that it is the opener of the whole record. it’s a remix built for late night experiences, one for the warehouse, with it’s wailing, ravey vocal samples and subterranean rolling acid bassline. the a side is rounded off by modulas tape mix of controllo. doing what it says on the tin, the graininess and saturation that tape production brings is instantly noticeable. while the tape mix is not as sinister as f.t.gs remix, nor as spatially dense, its greater emphasis on synth work is bound to make it a favourite for many suit fans.the b side takes on more of techno form than the a side. kicking off with intrigo (tape edits), the pad sounds give it an ethereal atmosphere, contrasting the almost militant feel of the percussion and bassline. immerso (instrumental mix) is probably the highest energy pick of the bunch, lots of bleepy synth work and crispy power claps might make this track the djs pick of the record. all in all, a top record from modula! dont sleep on it!
