eno louis gained a solid background in traditional edo music as a student at edo college in benin city, south-east nigeria. he lived at felas kalakuta republic till the army raid in 1978, when he moved to the us for a couple of years. on his return, he recorded with edo funk powerhouse the talents of benin, and quickly became a mainstay of the flourishing disco and boogie scene, in-demand as guitarist and drummer, with credits including releases by pogo ltd, amas grill, chris okotie, oby onyioha, chris mba, dizzy k falola, harry mosco, pat finn and the super elcados... to name just a few. the two tracks here are from louis debut lp, living in the usa.

theres no secrets here, archipel always dreamed to feature move d on a release, one day. that said, theres questions here but to say this release is more than a milestone, it is also the conclusion of many hopes made together a fine vinyl release named silent voices ep it features move d along with montreals finest new talent, dj hear who both worked out 3 magnificent, melodic, yet very hypnotizing tracks. ranging from unidentified techno to spaced out momentum builder, these tracks arent for the faint at heart dj, but you can expect gratification for the floor reaction to an automatic immersion into another world

dark maneuvres is a track which lives up to its name, the original expressing pumping, dark and crunchy sounds interspersed with string arrangements and overdubs which move the track in various different directions. the 1996 original is a great example of some production techniques of the time and is of interest in identifying the direction of the techno sound in that era, as well as being eminently listenable. slam were very much involved in the progression of techno at the same time as envoy was creating tracks such as dark manoeuvres and as such they have a real handle on how things have evolved, enabling them to bring a classic release such as this bang up to date. the distinctive hook, attention-grabbing melody and strings which are distinctive elements of the original are all incorporated in a full and fresh dynamic which sees some of these elements regrouped in individual sections such as the strings or moulded with deeper, darker resonance into a new expression.

prime numbers return with m7. the first side is taken by a remix of wireman’s >armour<, the original of which was included on pn04 released at the end of last year. the remix is from move d (deep space network, source records), he ups the tempo and in trademark fashion softens the surfaces of the original, warming the core of the track whilst creating a bass heavy groove with twisting beats, synths and a husky hypnotic vocal sample. the flip includes two tracks. to start we have >crushed< by actress. darren j. cunningham aka actress runs the much lauded werk records and this track is taken from his limited cd only album >hazyville< (released on werk in the autumn of last year ) >crushed< is slo-mo, extra bass heavy, low slung house with an addictive lofi synth riff and submerged strings. the track bumps along with hiss and crackle to good affect before turning into a badalamenti-esque loop to finish. to round things off be, the up & coming manchester based producer provides >when you left<. be cut his teeth with the chicago based still music and a great al hudson reedit which found extensive dj support on its release. >when you left< is a shuffling downbeat house groove with a jazz sentiment featuring deep rhodes keys and clipped drums, the track breaks up into a bluesy accapella section then builds up to a more direct 4/4 groove to the end

chris spero (otherwise known as uk house and techno producer glimpse) and hypercolour co-founder and producer, alex jones, return once again as dense & pika to the hotflush fold with move your body back. having crept out of the shadows back in 2011 with a collection of white labels released through their own eponymous imprint, dense & pika went on to bolster their rising profile with the release of their hotflush debut (crispy duck) which landed late last year as well as with their memorable live set at hotflushs recent boiler room takeover. there is nothing chin-strokingly complicated or needlessly over-worked about their productions. they make interesting techno aimed at the dance floor and move your body back continues with this central aesthetic. the three track ep plunders percussive depths by way of stern machine rhythms, swollen low-end grit and the echoing, anthemic elements of warehouse rave techno. the title track of the ep may already be familiar to many having appeared on their resident advisor podcast in march and is already being played out by maya jane coles, boddika and adam beyer, amongst others.

move d is a true legend in deep, house music. we own a lot of his records. when we found the track * wanna do* on the 50th groove magazine cd full of exclusive tracks, we contacted him to ask if he would be interested in a vinyl release. the track was too good to be only available through that cd. so move d sent a second - also really great - track along, and the result is what youre listening to at the moment. the first 300 copies are available on marbled purple vinyl
