ian pooley revisits his beloved 1998 lp meridian with 4 brand new remixes accompanying the much-demanded arrival of the original lp in digital formats for the first time. belfast house stars bicep apply their remix magic for the a1 cut, streamlining the pooley classic cold wait into a chunky uk house thumper which has already proven a winner in their sets, while white label boss oskar offermann delivers a subtle, grooving uk garage-inspired take on hit n run. the b side finds two alternate takes on whats your number by pooledmusic family member mathias show-b schober, whose remixes manifest themselves in a starry-eyed version that elevates the originals melancholic side, plus a stripped back beats n fx tool.

ian pooley returns to pooledmusic with his first solo ep of original material on the label since his 2013 album what i do. the intervening period has seen pooley release another hugely popular ep for innervisions and launch pooledmusics techno-focused sister label montage with a pair of new releases under his tougher silvershower alias, while labels including figure, rejected and scenario have been mining his rich back catalogue to re-release some of his best loved classic productions.

the third edition of figure’s recently launched run of limited edition hybrid discs sees the label head helping a 90’ies classic to new glory. when originally released in 1995, ian pooley’s celtic cross destroyed clubs everywhere with its iconic vocal sample and hypnotic bass bleeps. len faki’s remix treatment is a sublte one, which manages to leave most of the original’s elements in tact while still expanding upon its fiercely banging character

ian blevins is the keeper of the jewel in the crown. this is his second offering for the esp institute. picking up right where we left off, side a unleashes another explosive big room belter with resume a driving rhythmic monster that takes advantage of the whips and cracks in ian’s drum machine arsenal, while warm chords lay a foundation for a quirky lead melody and rubbery pulse to dance upon. akin to hannibal, blevins esp institute debut in 2015, the arrangement here toys with us before revealing the true guts of the track—this time characterized halfway through by a punctuating gangster piano hook. on side b, poor old head utilizes ian’s signature drum styling we’ve come to adore, but here he establishes swells of melancholy via bending notes that meow and purr, beautifully ebbing and flowing though an array of incongruous dial tones and bells—shakey and barely out of sync, yet cradling a loosely drawn chord progression. these two songs will smack you up before they rub you down.

with the eleventh installment in the saft series in place, the label has already celebrated their landmark tenth release. for the new record, the label has some adventurous sampling going on by the likes of ian blevins and ny*ak.

ian blevins is from england but hes quite the dude. this is his first offering for the esp institute. on side a, meet the happy beast named hannibal, a big room tune that ticks every box your heart may desire bone dry drum production, atmospheric arpeggios, soaring strings and pads, a beautifully sweeping bass progression and an overall sense of euphoria goosebumps guaranteed. on side b, welcome aunt poly cools us down a little bit stripping back the instrumentation, minimizing any superfluous effects, and layering a sparse bassline and droning synths over a laidback 808 all to a relaxed tempo. blevins debut proves that from the right point of view, familiar elements and motifs can take on a new life whilst reminding us just how the rave can feel. these two songs will increase your serotonin levels.

the deep house is the genre of reference that the author aims to customize in his title track >say what<. it is a ganglion of rhythm and foggy atmospheres where a voice reproduces a sort of rhyme. it is pretty similar to >revenge<, where the loop cyclic effect is preferred to another though, and where the voice (reduced to a sharp tip) pierces the four quarters in place of the snare drum. both tracks are presented in their remixed versions: the first made by julie marghilano and the second by matthew burton.

with the name of his new ep, ruede hagelstein sticks to the maritime visual theme of his recent watergate 13 compilation. the parrotfish is a colourful thalassian, who is as much skilled at submerging in mystical depths as ruedes light-footed producer-style. the grooves on the first side are filled with a collaboration between hagelstein and emerson todd.

what did you do the year you turned 21? hip-hop prodigy fashawn earned a spot on the cover of xxl magazine, toured the world and built a rep as one of raps new rising stars. fashawns debut album, *boys meets world*, was heralded by critics and fans alike as one of the best albums of 2009 for its gritty, streetwise and intelligent rhymes. some even compared his introductory opus to nas brilliant *illmatic*. it was enough for xxl to name fashawn to its list of hip-hops best freshman.

a very special release here from legendary rave producer eon, aka ian loveday. loveday, who passed away in 2009, was known and loved for his enduring impact on uk dance culture, although sadly this was the one and only release on his zarnak records imprint (although loveday himself released 12 inches on a host of labels including pal sl, vinyl solution and plus 8). upon release the papal magnet 12 inch sold out swiftly and soon became a highly sought after record - this batch was found recently and has been passed onto us with the blessing of lovedays family. on the a side you will find the relentless late night throb of >cable rider< - 90s techno at its finest. flip over for the moody introspection of >passing clouds< and raw, dusty analogue thump of >crosstown< - our pick of the bunch. an excellent release.
