the 2lp vinyl collector�s edition of soul city philadelphia sees soul music authority clive richardson select 28 of the most sought-after tracks from his 60-track 2cd compilation. these recordings served to establish the musical direction of the city in the late 1950s and early 1960s, at the dawn of the soul era. compiled and annotated by soul music authority clive richardson, soul city philadelphia is the latest in a series that has previously explored the nascent soul scenes in detroit, new york, chicago and los angeles.

the sound of disco rose out of philadelphia in the 70s before being nurtured in new york and later rising to the top of the pops. by 1979 it made its way to india, where it was blended with sitars, tablas and huge orchestras in a wildly inventive, and often boldly surreal, fusion of purab aur pachhim (east and west).

selected pulls together material from mostly unfamiliar names like deepjust aquabeat, bassik grooove and bobby o donnell, alongside a couple of established heads like ryo murakami, aybee (as orion 70) and fred p himself, whose > n.y.
