apollonia music unveils its latest release, which comes straight out of dan ghenacia s lab. the fresh new ep is amusingly titled the egg after his son, who was born just a few months ago, and sees dan bringing together three productions with different styles and flavours, each with an egg-related track name. it s been a while since monsieur ghenacia appeared on apollonia s label, but this ep is definitely worth the wait... on side a it s o&#776,,,, la coque (boiled egg), aptly-titled with its aquatic low end percolating and bubbling away. quirky effects keep things interesting throughout, adding depth and movement... then we get a killer riff which lifts the vibes higher. once that disappears a mysterious set of chimes arises from the deep adding a mystical feel to the track before it continues on with its bubbly groove. flip the record over and side b kicks off with mykonos huevos , which boasts hard-hitting percussion and a sublime b-line designed to get those hips moving with a sensual rhythm. the insistent, dramatic atmosphere is relentless and this is one of those cuts that will captivate the dance floor when it s dropped. lastly, we have sunny side up which rounds off the ep nicely, bringing that sunday after hours vibe you ll find at dan s party godeep. this one has a heady vibe with a hypnotic main riff and secondary piano riff that complements it perfectly. the beats are crisp, the low end warm and soothing which, combined with progressively trippy atmospherics, envelopes you and transports you to a better place, way beyond the stars. ... and there it is, a thoroughly eggscelent ep from dan ghenacia, courtesy of apollonia music

wonder why is the highlight from llorca s greatly overlooked the garden album on membran records. with its curtis mayfield inspired vocals, live strings and 70 s guitars, it has all the ingredients of a classic song. who better to ask as a remixer than hot toddy from crazy p. he raised the tempo and energy and really made it his own. on the b-side, 2 edits of the original track from fred everything, using only the original stems, working the effects and sonics as well as extending the track both in original and instrumental forms.

free soul 1969 the groove is heavy too ñ and a popular hip hop sample ñ but really itís all about klemmerís blisteringly intense, stream of consciousness freak-out. been sampled over 16x from ini to ed o g & da bulldogs to kurious, akinyele, dred scott to name a few. klemmer just wyles out on the sax keep that psychedelic funk moving!! side b. up above the rock edit 1968 you wonít find too many jazz songs that start with a drum break, but then this is probably one of the better jazz/soul hybrids iíve heard in some time. produced by richard evans this song is a perfect display of acoustic jazz funk with ron carter & grady tate filling out the rhythm section. dance floor classic!

limited edition cream coloured lp with bonus 12 inch. solipsism is an archival release of music from mike simonetti’s tenure as owner of italians do it better records, spanning from 2006-2013. during that time mike wrote a lot of music. some of it was used for films, some for tv commercials, some for fashion shows and he even released a record or two.

the next installment in cold diamond & mink’s soul investigations introduces a three part harmony group from california. “my my my baby” is a smoking hot group harmony groover that should drop a few jaws at your next dj set. thee baby cuffs was born out of love for soul music and chicano culture. their first 45 “where did our pride go”, came out in 2017 on the raza del soul label, covering an unsung early 70’s larry saunders production. “my my my baby” continues on the same lane of midtempo soul over funky drums and soulful horn lines. the lyric is your middle of the road love song material, but the group harmony lifts it right off the ground like it’s meant to happen in this kind of music. get a few copies and rock the instrumental on the b-side before dropping the vocal, if you feel like it. soul music that’s this potent is better enjoyed in excess.

as always, the return of ruede hagelstein is inevitable and with each return he ups the ante tenfold showcasing his ever growing prowess behind the studio door. it seems as if, with each ruede ep, the amount of elements utilized shrinks while at the same time the sound grows in power and dominance and that could not be better exemplified than here. consisting of two originals and a remix from the one and only martin buttrich, the ep is a gross display of well thought out, mature dance floor jewels. opening the short player is hagelsteins ‘dematerialize feat. justin evans where a sinister yet soothing vocal sets the tone for the entire track, laying the groundwork for a gorgeous bass drum and shimmers of distant percussion carry us into celestial spaces. ‘forward vision is up next and follows suit by relying on a brooding minimal groove to drive the shimmers of glistening atmospherics and sparkling sonics optimal for dizzy and delirious club moments. last but certainly not least we turn to the legend who is martin buttrich to twist the original ‘dematerialize feat. justin evan into a more straightforward composition with his signature stylings opening the doors of accessibility to a wider demographic of disc jockeys resulting in a track that stretches the playability to a wide range of disc jockeys
