two of the most promising producers go head to head & present with >it was acid<, an absolute dancefloor-killer-track. hornbostel & azzetto understand like no other how to bring the sound of the 90s into the 21st century & remind us all that there were great times in the past.

the environmental radiation dose on the moon ep is the first collaboration between zooloft and aconito records. the two labels are twinned in exploring the limits of techno, experimenting with structures and sequences and ultimately arriving at the place where the deep and dark sublimes. the ep opens with the child that was watching the moon a track lifted right out of the drone-techno hymnal. it starts with muddied, subterranean bass and builds not just outwards but inwards. filled with obtuse references and metallic rasps the atmosphere created is obscure and spectral. on the reverse the moon that was watching the child sounds like its been exposed to radiation. the sounds are distorted, as if created from samples of the genome unzipping. the arrangement is stunning, bells filter in and out and the layers smelt into one another. there is awe at work here, but its an awe that remains underpinned by terror. this release, mastered in berlin at the legendary calyx studio, is something of a record collectors dream. it will be released on solid silver vinyl in a very limited edition of just 200 copies. za000ltd should be enjoyed on wax, this wont be available digitally.

nys underground celebrity, electronic obscurity and rare disco specialist william burnett (aka grackle, aka speculator) delivers an ep that truly defies any categorization and therefore will have a harder time to find its way into the stores usually packed with easily digestible pre-masticated dancefloor stew that comes with filing recommandations. the music on this record evokes images of mad peyote sessions held amidst dry and sandy landscapes. the original desert acid sounds like a jam machines and instruments would do when left on their own, unsupervised by humans. a wobbly and acidey synthline goes on a psychedelic journey with fuzzy guitar riffs, backed by a stompy almost tribal discobeat. düsseldorfs currently most interesting band musiccargo rework the piece into a cinematic krautdisco gem that floats on a loopy vibraphone drone, sprinkled with german and english lyrics. sombrero galaxy (aka cbs/intergalactic fm regular dj tako reyenga and his mysterious uk buddy jonny nash) take the track into cosmic realms (rare occasion where the term really fits) and their version could easily be interpreted as a vangelis tribute. the last track on the ep we are it is a slow 808 jam with druggy and spaced out fuzzy vocals, paired with equally druggy and fuzzy guitars. if you are a filmmaker and you need a song for a weird desert scene youd be an idiot not to consider this one the perfect choice.

channel 83 is the new label and production project from ben rymer (gucci soundsystem) and damon martin (disco bloodbath). releasing both edits and original material, the label will focus on a broad range of styles, reflecting the diverse and eclectic tastes of the labels founders. this commitment to diversity is demonstrated on channel 83s first release, tonite/acid crunch. the a side is a slice of euphoric nyc vocal disco that wouldnt have sounded out of place being played at the saint in 1980. originally coming in at under 4 minutes the track has been given a longer more dance floor friendly mix. this track is already gaining attention following its inclusion on disco bloodbaths resident advisor pod cast and is proving popular with the likes of pat mahoney (lcd soundsystem) and mark e. on the flip, acid crunch is a classic late 80s chicago house tune given a modern reboot by the duo.
