permanent vacation are delighted to bring you the second chapter of the first space oddities saga compiled by alexis le-tan (music journalist and member of the tigersushi bass system) and jess (formerly of the famed french house duo jess & crabbe and now drummer for punk band 10lec6). the pair met in 2001 through a mutual love of no-wave and leftfield disco. in 2003 jess came upon a big collection of library music, which he bought for next to nothing. whilst he was ciphering through it and finding the most interesting extracts, alexis was digging in all things cosmic, where along the way he also started to pick up many bits and pieces of obscure mood musics. in 2007, they put together some of their best space disco treasures giving birth to the highly acclaimed space oddities project released last july. as the first episode of space oddities was reaching to an end and following the amazing feedback they received, the parisian duo started working on the next volume in the heat of 2008’s sunny days. a new direction was chosen: more organic, guitar lead and psychedelic than the previous one, still focusing on the dancefloor and their love for freaky synths and fierce beats.

after 17 years of working together, tejada & leviste are back in the studio again putting their modular synths to good work. m tracks (m as in modular) features 4 analog workouts in varying styles. m track 1 features a melodic deep, yet driving track reminiscent of the duos best known work. m track 2 and 3 showcase a trackier sound focusing on basic elements while m track 4 turns in a much more experimental direction. the approach to this ep was a very fun, hands on process. analog sequencers are used to drive the various modular synths and their components. this process allowed for a more organic feel as the unstable electronics change over time as well as the manual changing of parameters over time. systems used include doepfer and frostwave sequencers, and modular systems consisting of cwejman, doepfer, harvestman and bananalogue modules. analog drum machines aided in the rhythms, however m track 3 was generated from pure modular hardware including the drums.

the long awaited trentemøller debut album - maybe one of the most anticipated independent albums of the year. trentemøller is one of the hottest artists on the electronic circuit - the man of the moment! a beautifully crafted, astonishing masterpiece, that will leave you breathless. the tracks form a story, almost like the soundtrack of a movie. it manages to capture a whole range of emotions in subtle melodic miniatures, dreamy ambiences, dusty beats, deep dub-tracks and driving groove-excursions. an ever-changing kaleidoscope of colours and moods, -the last resort- without a doubt contains trentemøllers best work to date. although its an electronic album, it also incorporates live-drums, guitars, bass and other acoustic instruments like celesta, glockenspiel, melodica and even dj scratching to create a more organic feel

this is quite simply one of the most glorious records you will hear this year. it would be easy to lazily reference it against classic period rephlex/planet mu stuff (oops, i just did!), and indeed it appears to share some of the same heritage (even going so far as to feature a remix of rephlex artist global goon in its tracklisting) - but chris leary aka ochre is obviously a man on his own mission. gorgeously lush, but at the same time super-funky…as electronic as kraftwerk starring in a remake of tron, yet somehow as pastoral and organic as edward elgar…much like his label-mate ed chamberlain, leary manages that tricky task of being supremely technical in his programming and arrangements, but without losing the heart and soul of the music amidst all the studio trickery. you know that old chestnut often said when referring to vintage or classic music, >they dont make them like that any more<? well they do…and here it is! simply fantastic.

its not hard to tell that barems been kicking back and enjoying the summer, soaking up the sunshine vibes and pouring new found inspiration into these three new tracks. the result is a breath-taking departure from his previous releases that demonstrates an unexpected mastery of the classic house sound. the first surprise is that each track stretches out to around the nine-minute mark with barem adopting a more patient, relaxed approach to his arrangements. the resulting laidback grooves - loopy, organic and sexy in turn - effortlessly seduce the crowd, marking a definite evolution in his sound and adding a welcome new string to his bow

his this years 2nd album >heavy day< still heavily resonates in peoples ears, now that falko brocksieper already delivers an appropriate follow-up. on >fresh 727< brocksieper finds back to raw, sketchy arrangements, evolving their full energy just from deep, rolling basic grooves, as opposed to the close examination of each tiny sound and every dramaturgic peculiarity in the recent longplayers production. on the title track >fresh 727< noisy, maurizio-esque house chords encounter futuristic vocal messages, while edgy, classic drumbox-riffs rip up the dense atmosphere of the track again and again. a deep, marching groove and the freeminded combination of elements signalize special club moments from the very start. on the backside >request< turns out to be an equally organic, sizzling counterpart, which can promote its sustainable cheerfulness alone by its ongoing bouncy bassline, in a way that all accessory parts get dispensable - to the benefit of a well-balanced blend of rattling percussion, carved vocals and quirky atmo...s

sexplosion, the new ep from lenfant terrible of sophisticated techno, seth troxler-here recording under his debauched alter ego sex trothler-is a complex, multifaceted, and yet decidedly horny affair. these are the sounds of doing unspeakable and anonymous things to girls in dark backrooms and being too confident to regret it the next day…the sounds of your favorite sexual memory transformed by your overactive fantasy life into scenes of utter perversion. the first track, jusyour, combines troxlers signature use of the classic, organic sounds of detroit house and techno with an avant-garde, fragmented, almost mournful sensibility. its a contemporary jack track as appropriate for a dark, seedy club as it is for an afterparty orgy on your friends broken futon. its almost as if music could yearn and sweat and think all at once. its followed by a brief vocal internude to remind you that being a good lover always means having enough of a sense of humor to laugh at other people laughing at yourself. think tinkertoys meets the wu-tang clans black shampoo. humor aside, the final track, face, utilizes airy percussion and deep, almost cinematic chords (reminiscent of troxlers remix for another precious youth, nicolaas jar on new yorks wolf+lamb label). its masterful and restrained use of processed vocals manages to leave behind so much of the pointless darkness that has plagued techno, whether minimal or otherwise. it builds slowly yet aggressively, like a hard, focused grind with someone you cant actually even really stand. this is music for people whose time at art school was spent getting naked and not hating themselves for it.

jona bechtolt makes his way over to dfa for three tracks, all of which find him tailoring his endearing electronic pop squiggles into a far more serious sounding james murphy-friendly setup, complete with robust live kit sounds, disco drum patterns and tough no-wave basslines. both ‘summer song’ and ‘i’m in love with a ripper’ sound like perfect dfa fodder, with their slouchy rhythms and slick organic styling

supported by dubfire, davide squillace, rino cerrone, mark henning, mihalis safras. naples based artist gianni pellecchia, well known for his releases on loose or minisketch, with his first solo ep on bauns music onda tape has a deep, liquid atmospheric feel. the lead bass rotor and the easy rhythmical line of muler creates a sonoric winding which culminates when a darkness laugh sample breaks off the pause to restart shaking heads. powerful! allergico is a well done example of drum embedding and sound de/construction. a funky techno bay with coloured melodic reefs! mnemonic has an excellent hypnotic minimal groovin tech style, organic beats meets mindsweeping melodies, and the dark laugh crosses the reef again. a pure dope for your escaping from chaos. thats onda tape!
