as some of you may have already noticed, each release of mr raoul ks >peul< series features a specicific african instrument as its main sound. this time its the balafon - a kind of sticcado, which uses calabashes as resonancebodies and is often handcrafted by its player. here, the balafon is used as a rhythmic and a melodic instrument. after a long intro, the track gathers momentum and takes off for one of those long buildups. when the tension is released, in come the vocals! rising from a sparse chant to an energetic vocal that empathically pleads for unity. then you get your beats back and off goes another african-european joyride. for those of you who arent that much into vocals, a less vocalized mix is provided on the flipside. enjoy another mr raoul k special treat

after a 2 and a half year wait i finally managed to knock out a new single. its actually only my 3rd solo single ever. im very happy with it but ive got mixed feelings trying to describe it. you spend a year working on a track and a lazy shop worker or journalist will lump you into the >cosmicbalearicspacewhatever< straightjacket in 2 seconds, i can at least resist to do the same… anyway, two are quite psychedelic and one is some kind of cover version of one of my favourite villalobos trax. as you can hear ive had loads of fun fooling around in the studio playing the bass, percussion, drums(badly) and synths(even worse…)…

one year after his first ep on cargo edition, kostas tassopouls aka ekkohaus delivers to the label another incredibly strong release. the native-born greek, now living in berlin, has developed into an skilled producer who rides the line between techno and house. the combination of reduced, hypnotic and impulsive arrangements with a subtle deepness are typical of ekkohaus’ sound, demonstrated perfectly in the two tracks of this ep. “unsound” is characterized by his smooth, almost elegant rhythm. a repetitive meandering vocal sample weaves through the track, sounding familiar yet haunting at the same time. the track is already played by many key dj’s and is definitely to be heard more often within the next months to come. “moon talking” focuses on a more standard vocal which gives the track some pop-appeal. at the same time the introverted male vocal introduces a very catching harmony which will undoubtedly have a huge impact on the dancefloor. with this ep, ekkohaus cements himself as one of the modern-house talents.

after the resounding success of lunarjam001 the leeds based lunar cadets ticker & cristoidz return with some seriously out there, and rare as roast beef edits for your late night perusal. their first release flirted and got frisky with hott city, loveride and david byrne and put them through the lunar jam cosmic mixer. they have forsaken such formalities with this release though, and have unearthed four tracks from even deeper and darker corners of their collections, and given them a serious going over. already garnering much support from such balearic luminaries as prins thomas & moonboots as always, limited to initial press only polysleeve and photocopied inlay!
