roland appel started producing music and spinning records in the early nineties. he was a member of fauna flash (together with christian prommer) and the trüby trio (with rainer trüby + christian prommer). in 2002 he released an album with peter kruder and christian prommer as voom:voom . with every project he toured the world and played clubs and festivals from montreal jazz festival, sonar festival to fabric london, new york, berlin and tokyo. from 2004 to 2006 roland lived in paris. during this time he started to write music for his solo career which quickly gained an international following. in 2006 returning to his home town of munich he teamed up with engineer jan krause to start recording once again. whether roland incorporates an accomplice or is working solo, thereÆs hardly a dull moment in the studio or on stage, captivating his audience by combining the integral influences of detroit techno, folk, disco all the way to soul and house. one of the most in demand tracks from the all night long album, snow gets a full single release as a result of the huge response from disco heavyweights horse meat disco, who took the time to contact us to tell us how much they love it. old school disco in every way, certainly not space and nothing nu about ita.. dfa darlings runaway turn it in a slow burning house direction that builds the tension until every last drop is wrung out in a sweaty pool on the dancefloor. nice.

the running back sports team is glad to welcome two new players to its roster. dplay and whiz kid manuel tur (see also his brilliant ribn stuff) have caused a great stir with a bouquet of 12-inches for outfits like zurichs beloved drumpoet community or the compost black label as well as knocking out well-made remixes. for instance, their work on kiloos the passion is just adorable. here we have them melted into one organism called dplay, while mtur moves in silence (or in the production credits, if you please). stretching out on the a-side, huub sand is not only a tribute to two of schalke 04s greatest gentlemen, but a prime-example of cavernous, stoic and infective house those two (no not the schalke guys) had quite an impact on. initially planned to come with a remix by the mighty radio slave (please look at cat-no. 012 to see what became of that), our coach could convince the duo to hand out two rather atypical, nonetheless bloodcurdling tunes instead: tschaka kicks some deep dub disco houz styles of the highest orders with riot-like effects on your mind, body & soul. finally, schroulé is a claustrophobic corker, if we have ever seen one. should be the perfect sound track for padded cells and the up-and-coming remake of mel brooks frankenstein. these ruhrpott kids are alright!

the wurst edits gang has inducted yet another ny disco acolyte to the fold, the inimitable irishman-in-new york, eamon harkin. known for wild dj sets not to mention his innovative bookings at such parties as sunday best and fun, harkins no stranger to dance music. no wonder the mans shared bills with such legends as afrika bambaataa, juan atkins, grandmaster flash, the egyptian lover, and kevin saunderson. on his debut single, the man heads straight into peak-time territory with the sinister sounds of >john boy<, where synth toms jump out of the shadows only to punctuate an incredibly propulsive groove. >innit< takes a decidedly different turn down edits lane, rejuvenating an early 90s house gem in magnificently wurst fashion.
