15 years of drumcode, with two bangin primetime tracks from slam & ben sims... just killers no fillers

6 months after we first ventured into vinyl territory were back with a new ep. the follow up to kastils dusty edits is a sampler containing 4 tracks by 3 artists we are heavily supporting at the moment. the a1 is again by basque county based kastil. shes back is a wonderful sample drenched house track containing soul touching vocals. definitely one for the dancefloor. on the a2 we have doctor bills by fellow rotterdam native ben la desh this is actually his first release out of many to come. this track has been circulating the soundcloud for a few months and was played by ooft! in one of his excellent podcasts. on the flip we find two tracks by taiko mochi name:tomas malo. while the b1 scenesters is a great more uptempo disco house track with quite an emotive break its the b2 slomo track shelter that has been stealing the show until now. if youre in to real slow and mesmerizing music this might just be the one for you. support by: ooft!, the dead rose music company, miguel campbell, craig smith (6th borough project), andy ash, james johnston, soho808, sleazy beats recordings, zoo look, kirill tipo, fulbert, satore.

a straight upfront pounding original from dutch producer mr jones is joined here on the remix by current drumcode favourite ben sims for a groovier, more funk filled workout. dublin based producer sunil sharpe rounds off the package with a seriously twisted heads down broken beat approach.
armory has been hammered all over by dave clarke for most of 2011 & mr jones is studio partner dave under the guise of unsubscribe. together they have already completed remixes for black asteroid & detrot grand pubahs with more to follow in 2012.

duets ii is another collection of american songbook standards performed in the best of ways. it includes collaborations with the best voices of music: aretha franklin, natalie cole, norah jones and k.d. lang grace the recording booth with this legendary singer.
but it is the tragic and premature passing of amy winehouse that makes this album truly special, her appearance on the duet >body and soul< is the last known recording of the british songbird, and it is a truly heartrending version of the 1930 jazz classic. if this isnt grammy material, we dont know what is!

in 2011 some berlin based recordshops try to reclaim the streets with the so called >record store day< for the first time in germany. also kann was asked for a limited vinyl to support their concern. on that specific occasion we bring a new two track ep except for the regular series. kann rsd breaks ranks with an extra beautiful edit of the awesome witchwaver sunglitters, composited by nuremburgs essay. b-side builts back the bridge to the label and gives finally >aperture< from sevensol & bender the appropriate space. the track was originally released on kann00 in 2008. for the artwork kann is pretty happy to won over famed – a chummy art collective – for doing an impressing independent work.

jazzanova lands on wurst! early dj support comes from soul clap, radio slave, dimitri from paris, ewan pearson, sebo k, rob mello and slow hands. weve done the unthinkable, scored the unimaginable, and wrangled none other than jazzanova (!) for an über-limited one-sided vinyl-only release. while >i can see< feat ben westbeech came out a few years back, filippo moscatellos most excellent disco version never saw the light of day - until now, of course. doesnt much more sunshine-filled and soul-drenched than this stellar take on the esteemed berlin collectives original, and we are both honored and humbled to get to work with both jazzanova and their label sonar kollektiv, and of course filippo himself, on this very special release. filippo moscatello started to produce music in 1994 under the dj naughty moniker, and has since gone on to work with labels like gigolo, eskimo, and moodmusic to name but a few, releasing the artist albums disco volante (gigolo) and pagliaccio (moodmusic), as well as the acclaimed compilation, one naughty night in berlin (eskimo). in addition to his production work, filippo maintains a club residency at cookies in berlin called luv dancin where hes played along special guests like moodymann, jerome sydenham, ata, bottin and loud e.

following the radio and chart smash >bounce< feat. kelis, calvin harris releases his storming new single >feel so close<. whilst >bounce< featured vocals from superstar kelis, >feel so close< features vocals by calvin himself. the single is indie meets dance and whilst having the usual catchy hit factor of a calvin harris single, it has an anthemic euphoria in its feel good chorus and echoing guitars and drums. already premiered on pete tongs radio1 show last week, it is most definitely set to make crowds ecstatic from the dancefloors of ibiza to the festival crowds of creamfields and big chill and is sure to be one of the anthems of the summer.

>mr guy< is a lovely slice of lovers rock and somewhat overlooked when released in 1980 but it has become a firm favourite with us here at bristol archive. >pretty girl< finds roots singer joshua moses showing his softer side, it was something of a hit on the original release and makes a natural pairing with sharons tune.
both tracks were originally released as singles on bristol label shoc-wave records some thirty years ago and were given their first digital release with their well deserved inclusion on >the bristol reggae explosion 1978 ¹ 1983<. >mr guy< also made it onto the limited vinyl version of the album, but running time constraints meant there was no room for >pretty girl< something we a very pleased to rectify with this vinyl release.

mother focus is their 1975 studio album which marks a departure from the progressive rock style that dominated the band s prior work, to a poppier, often disco influenced direction. it is focus last studio album that features the notorious jan akkerman on guitar.

cool, dark underground club monsters. being a top player in the music industry is not an easy task! but with 15years in the business and over 150 releases, 50+ remixes & 300+ compilation appearances the numbers of jeffs output speak for them self’s. jeff started creating music in 1994 and got hooked on it directly, but it took until 1998 before his first single was to come out on his own label maskros music. since that single he has released on labels like poker flat, night drive music, episode, treibstoff, kickin music, konvex konkav, plastic city, global underground, regular etc.

for more than a year, third ear and benjamin have been selecting tracks for this ep and for an album to follow later in the year. the wait was largely due to the track no kicks, which initially used a chuck d acapella, titled no. when third ear couldn?t get clearance for the acapella, we suggested to benjamin that we try and think of another poet/rapper who could produce an original lyric inspired by chuck d?s flow. after some thought we suggested diamondancer, who was inspired to write the lyric she performs here. stay hungry stay foolish and acidic sun are delicious and dreamy, with a fat pulsing groove. hello ammmerika is more urgent, pushing the groove constantly.

benoit & sergio dont make dance tracks—they tell stories. in the washington dc duos music, a sense of place and narrative infuse their rhythms and melodies, transcending having flexed their synth-pop muscles on releases for dfa (the acclaimed boy trouble ep) and visionquest (the lovelorn where the freaks have no name ep), dc duo benoit & sergio return to spectral sound for a victory lap around the dancefloor. and >let me count the ways< is just that, sounding every bit the perfect, hands-in-the-air final anthem of the evening. tireless hi-hats push the beat onward and dreamy synthesized strings saturate the stereo space as sergio intones, >let me count the ways / the ways that ive loved.< as the line repeats, its meaning bends to fit the songs tone of endless, time-suspended romance: its not the loves that matter in the end, but the ways. its not the destination, but the journey. the b-sides >let me count the ways (autumn version)<is a vastly different take on the original?s maximalist swell. stripping the beat back to its bare essentials and building them up again over nearly 12 minutes, the >autumn version< recalls arthur russell?s more minimal moments down to its wobbly bass filigree and mumbled vocal samples. by the end of the track, the claps are falling on the twos and fours like crinkly foliage, synths are sizzling like firewood, and benoit & sergio?s newest banger is revealed in its full glory once again.

its been 2 years since benny rodrigues last release on be as one and since then, the young dutch producer has pushed forward his career, both in the studio and in the dj booth. having remixed people like josh wink, dj pierre, justice, spirit catcher to name just some and released on ovum, poker flat, figure, klockworks, with a busy dj schedule in clubs as berghain or rex, at his young age benny is clearly a well respected artist. benny rodrigues interpretation of acid house takes the form of i like acid, and surely it sounds classic! acid synth madness like in the old days but with an updated touch to rock the floors in 2011. choice hypnotic appeal will not get unnoticed on the floor, once again a track that finds its strenght in the basic structure of its arrangement, effective drums patterns with a freakish top line that carry the track into peak time. steve rachmad remixes as sterac are always a treat, and here the techno legend doesnt fail to impress once again with his take on bennys i like acid. snares, hi-hats, rides and bass, all arranged to build up to a melodic and emotional breakthru, dancefloor bliss for the detroit techno heads. to close this amazing package, germanys own mike dehnert brings his trademark sound to be as one in the form of his remix of i like acid. a tune that finds its perfect habitat in dark, smokey and sweaty rooms with massive sound systems.

benny tones brilliant album chrysalis. crafted in the wellington studio of this highly regarded nz audio engineer this time capsule represents benny tonesre-introduction as a producer and features a diverse host of vocal and instrumental collaborators he has worked with over the years including electric wire hustles mara tk, taay ninh & myele manzanza, fat freddys drop front man joe dukie, shapeshifters devin abrams & sam trevethick, rio hemopo, adi dick, isaac aesili, ls shihan the poet and many more.

the eponym track of the album could not deserve any better musical researchers than ben klock, ark, tom taylor & paul woolford and fumiya tanaka to endorse his first prolog and the 30th vinyl of infiné s catalog.
