the running back sports team is glad to welcome two new players to its roster. dplay and whiz kid manuel tur (see also his brilliant ribn stuff) have caused a great stir with a bouquet of 12-inches for outfits like zurichs beloved drumpoet community or the compost black label as well as knocking out well-made remixes. for instance, their work on kiloos the passion is just adorable. here we have them melted into one organism called dplay, while mtur moves in silence (or in the production credits, if you please). stretching out on the a-side, huub sand is not only a tribute to two of schalke 04s greatest gentlemen, but a prime-example of cavernous, stoic and infective house those two (no not the schalke guys) had quite an impact on. initially planned to come with a remix by the mighty radio slave (please look at cat-no. 012 to see what became of that), our coach could convince the duo to hand out two rather atypical, nonetheless bloodcurdling tunes instead: tschaka kicks some deep dub disco houz styles of the highest orders with riot-like effects on your mind, body & soul. finally, schroulé is a claustrophobic corker, if we have ever seen one. should be the perfect sound track for padded cells and the up-and-coming remake of mel brooks frankenstein. these ruhrpott kids are alright!

killer hypnotic techhouse / techno!!

already supported by johnny d., someone else, laurent garnier, jennifer cardini, florian meindl, david keno.. erich lesovsky is the newest addition to stil vor talents exciting artist roster. here comes someone who is totally fascinated and absorbed by technology, someone who only performs as a live act in the clubs and - in the time of digital machinery - still works on constructing his own devices to make music with. after singles for wba and keno records, it is now the time for his first release on oliver koletzkis stil vor talent imprint and mr. lesovsky is very happy to be part of the family. so are we, of course! not only, but also because his first ep is a killer display of musical wizardry. it stars off with >bell a donna<, a minimal funk-laden piece of music that is mainly based on some crisp beats, many warm effects and sounds and a melody so simple, yet so encapsulating to capture the heart of every dancer in the club. this is oldskool minimal funk at its best! next up is >93 percent<, a title that might be misleading at first, because this track sounds more like 150 percent really. a great loop made of fidgety techno hi-hats and some wonderful warm analogue sounds - this could well be termed a new form of fidget techno. last up is >riot beatz<, an experimental display of minimal sound design, yet still very danceable. lots of crystal bashing beats, a pumping bass and many little effects - this will definitely be one for the dancefloor in the morning hours. not only does e. lesovsky seem a master of sound, his expertise seems to cover the perfect creation of warm, yet basic tech anthems and his influences seem to come from all sorts of musical directions, from hip-hop to funk to house back to techno. it is the easiness with which he delivers his music that makes his sound designs so special!

dj arcane is one of the most electrifying rising stars in the techno scene right now. with his releases on labels like compressed, kne deep and tooltorrer and organik. he proofed his producer qualities. so it s not a big suprise that organik003 will be from this very talented guy. expect techno at its best!

sweet 16 is a perfectly judged slice of disco punk, producer grahmzilla hooking up a beat which sounds like the clash hanging out at studio 54 while isis tells of the joys and dangers of being sixteen and ruling the dancefloor. its not clear whether the natural stage genius (time out) is encouraging under age sex, cautioning against it or just suggesting engaging in some healthy exhibitionism. whatever the message she makes it sound great. cruise low is as low slung and bass heavy as you d expect from the title, isis whispering about popping the trunk with a mixture of enticement and threat. bonus track whateveruneed is an epic instrumental electro symphony from grahmzillas hard drive. ny mover and shaker eli escobar rounds out the package with a mix of sweet 16 which harks all the way back to planet rock...

opening with orchestral provenance usual alternative has all the epic presence of a lord of the rings re enactment society annual dance and dinner. working up to the drop with classical samples before hitting with one of the heaviest basslines we ve heard all year (alright, its only january, thats not the point...).

alec is one of the most-promising acts from east germany at the moment with a very own unique style crossing reduced techno with epic and mystical influences. his debut single >passengers< on etui records brought him very good support from various key-djs like karotte and his last ep >sub aquers< on ipoly music is dreamy grooving the clubs at present, played by laurent garnier etc. >orville< is matching with a teeting drive and its beautiful spheres while alex carbo puts the theme into a powerful minimalistic remix. >not in violet< is a well freaky dancefloor track with some vocoded voices

pit spector started composing music in reggae and jazz bands, playing guitar and piano. he shortly discovered electronic music, following his bro steps ark, who gave him a sampler in one hand, a herbert record in the other. fascinated by this kind of composing, he founded antislash together with john merrick and charlie not fonk. the group is performing extremely punchy and improvised livesets accross europe. pit spector also writes music and sounds for avas verden, a more theatrical and noisy show, influenced by rita mitsuko, herbert and steve reich. in his first 12inch, on minibar, he offers a 4 tracker. its a unique sound and groove experience, with antislash remix. its about clicks, drums, voice, kicks… exactly as we like em. he takes this opportunity to thank again ark for passing on his love for music and dance

part 1 of the new double-release from tiefschwarz aims at the heart of house music: soul. “on&on” is a first-class arranged club track. starting off with a wonderful mellow theme, that is adumbrated by the bass line in an one-and-a-half minute long exposition. the track ups the tempo with an additional hi-hat resolving into a shuffle beat. in double time, we move on towards the first break. here an edgy, minor key-chord sequence is introduced, making it obvious for everyone, that this track is gonna take off. eventually the keys function as a counterpoint to the classic bass line. a four-to-the-floor “on&on” vocal sample takes over after the break, adding another percussive aspect. as the track goes on a mulitiplicity of side elements sets in - no room for tediousness! in the end the “on&on” vocals resolve into “it’s so simple… . who knows, but this could be a broad hint to all the tech-house academics out there. no matter what, this grande finale raises a smile from every last sweaty soul on the dancefloor. with “best inn” on the b-side tiefschwarz create a dance classic, dressed in 2009 fashion. reminiscent of long gone nu-groove times, a traditional house beat - including a tiny off-beat tinker bell - blasts out of the speakers. a slured synth-organ provides the track with that certain edgyness. here, the brothers keep it laid-back yet exciting at the same time. this piece goes on and on and on - and you yourself run alongside, not wanting to pause. but watch out! at the latest in the second break, tiefschwarz put nostalgia to the test via some shockingly muffled metal drums. one of these moments, where you wish yourself back into the middle of an eight-hour deep-house set in 1992. the train departs. one thrillingly beautiful landscape after another runs by, until the warm sun strokes of the south suddenly rouse you out of slumber. arrived

stone cold classic funky disco floor filler thats stood the test of time. first time ever on 12inch!!! taken from the hard to find self titled lp by tommy stewart, bump & hustle music is the definitive disco funk party anthem. it was recorded in 1976 in atlanta, georgia, and since then the lp has found itself in the play boxes of soul, funk and jazz djs alike. however, its not until now that this amazing song has finally made it onto the preferred format of dance djs the world over – the 45rpm 12inch single. in 1976 tommy stewart was a busy man, working as an arranger, producer, performer and writer for a host of soul and rnb artists. the lp made for abraxas records was the first to go directly under his name, and although it failed to take off locally, the lp soon became known by djs across the world primarily for the club smash bump & hustle music. as it happens that song in particular almost didnt exist but for tommy needing to come up with something quick in order to fill in a gap in the album. conceived and recorded on the spur of the moment, and with backing vocals by isaac hayes singers hot buttered soul overdubbed later, its a superb example of rhythmic simplicity blended with soulful, catchy harmonies. its just impossible to listen to bump & hustle music without a broad smile coming to your face, and when played loud in a club, its impossible not to dance!

there is no doubt that leipzig is a pulsating place in terms of electronic music. however, the potential of the city seems to be experiencing a new surge - not least due to up-and-coming producers like sven tasnadi and stefan schultz aka juno6. both belong to the generation of musicians who initially released their tracks for free on net-labels but have since have made the leap to vinyl. while sven tasnadi has already released great eps on liebe*detail, smallville records and of course on cargo edition, juno6 just recently made his debut with >salamis< in spring 2008 on broque. now they have joined forces with their first collaboration for cargo edition. both tracks on the ep are characterised by elaborate rhythms, a special deepness and intricately arranged sounds. >aramis< tells apparently different stories which merge seamlessly during its 14 minutes. the track also explores the hypnotic moments on the dancefloor in a very subtle and complex manner - reduced but full of vibrancy at the same time. >genau so< on the b-side takes a similar line, but adds a spark of funk, which combines to form its distinctive rhythm. sven tasnadi & juno6 have created two modern house tracks which are full of character.

rezkars fascination with music began with his parents record collection. listening to local radio stations as a child, he heard 80s tracks. as an adult he discovered the magic of 60s and 70s jazz and funk. one day, his cousin played a track that he immediately fell in love with. he later learned that this was house music. he discovered the fruity loops sequencer software and thought, why not try to make my own tracks, after all, it cant really be that hard? deep house can sound deceptively simple. its a bit like japanese anime, rezkar says. it looks so cute and easy to draw, but try to actually draw it, and you will discover its even harder than realistic drawings. the thing about house is that if you try too hard it can come across as being very cheesy, but then again, if you dont do enough it can sound incomplete. finding the balance is not easy, rezkar admits. after hearing his music, one finds that he is learning this lesson quite well.

on some things you can always rely on - ruede hagelstein s dog vs. dog series belongs to it without doubt. and he is also not disappointing with the no.4. on the contrary - hagelstein offers us two very different tracks, but which have one thing in common: quality! aerohonica appears unusually housy and melancholic, whereas scissor mouse is a breaker in ruedes typically manner. both tracks are high class floor bombs! the same procedere as every year? - with dog, with pleasure.

lets remixer speak! >it was great to be asked to do this. originally, i wanted to do something really quirky and funky with the strange vocal in human bond, one of my favorite old tracks. i tried a few times but i couldnt really get a vibe going in the funk realm. so i listened to the original over and over again and then the lightbulb turned on. i realized that the original was a monster rave track, like what you would hear in a warehouse in detroit in the 90s. so i threw out my original idea and went crazy with a huge techno builder, something to hype a big rave just like the original. maybe this doesnt sound exactly like what i usually do but that was the fun of making it< claude vonstroke. aa: >bounce your body to the box was one of the first kms records that i owned and it was all about the mike >hitman< wilson mix and force field on the b side. the production on the original was huge. the 909 groove just pounded everything... when that came out there was nothing that came close to it. so it was an honor and a challenge to mix it myself. first came the futurist bounce mix... not released on vinyl, anmerkung, ... which is more of a cover version than a remix. i had a lot of fun with this one but it definitely has a signature that steps away from the original. so i had to take a run at it one more time to pay a proper homage to the original with the flashback mix< mike shannon...

this killer house groove was inspired by the guys listening to loads of kevin saunderson stuff from the late 80s and cant you just tell. after the success of >shaboo< this one will be as big if not bigger. check the clip to see why !!

the pump ep is a typically genre-bending mixture of pumping, groovy house tracks, exploring the many sides of this highly regardedproducers fruitful repertoire. lead track the pump is a vivacious number that takes a clean, modern house aesthetic as a base and later infuses it with a dirtier, earlier morning vibe, with phoniques playful use of the resplendent chord stabs. its a slow burner indeed, and yet another example of his effortless arrangement talents. fancying a spot of fresh air and a trip into the audio countryside, bike ride is an even more playful journey into the kooky electronic world of phoniques studio outings. solid drums and warm sub bass provide the energy for all manner of pops and tweaks to unfold. its another deeper track but be warned it still has the power to lift a crowd up onto its tip-toes. going down more of a techno route, tooltime completes the package and breaks out the big guns for some serious heads down dancefloor ignition. urgent and tight late night action, not for the faint of heart, the tracks title is too modest - it should really read ‚ peak time

he superb disco deviance crew continue to impress with their amazing re-edit series !! editors for this release are well known electrofunkateers from up north, bc, who definitely know their disco boogie. having been re-edited themselves on the redux imprint by legendary electrofunk don greg wilson on a track called >hardcore boogie<, they then went on to release the highly praised >konked out< and >missy done a pil< edits on the same imprint. on this, their first release for disco deviance, they continue their habit of not only re-editing, but also mashing and over-dubbing their cuts with their own played sounds to make an amazing blend of discoid bliss thats perfect for both djs and dancefloors. the opening cut >magnificent disco< is a wonderful mix of elements (both sampled and played) taken from their beloved konk, the clash and kool and the gang which are worked into a sublime disco work out. while on the flip its aretha franklins >jump to it< which gets reworked and extended into a hip disco joint that has echoes of atlantic conveyors crossover classic >we are<. enjoy the music

vrajitoroo. now the frightening thing about our boy razvan aka. vrajitoroo, is that his is only 17 years of age. born and raised in romania, his passion for electronic music first came to light at the age of 11. since then he has followed closely the careers of not only fellow romanians rhadoo and raresh, but a host of other stars of the techno circuit, including the heavy-weights, hawtin, vath, loco dice, carola, luciano and villalobos. the more he listened the more his passion grew, and soon his urge the make music could no longer be ignored, he set on his production journey. the first fruits of his labour are now here for you to check out. sent to lawler, it took him a very short time to decide that he wanted the tracks for viva music, and so, vrajitoroo becomes the latest new artist to join the label.... the three tracks din nou iar, tzushca and mai hai!, represent a new modern take on a classic tribal sound.
