third album young desire, again captures the fervour witnessed on lapkos live shows. taking in themes of vulnerability and anxiety beneath hardened exteriors, aching feelings, pressure and confusion, the album is a mental trip back to the schoolyard, where tough guy antics and leather armor cant hide the convulsions underneath. theres new depth and dynamic in the bands expression, fitting for a gang of seasoned rock musicians. these two art school dropouts and metal worker have come a long way from harjavalta (though they still gather there to rehearse and play) and have evolved as a band and as friends.

exium are probably the most popular techno act from spain alongside oscar mulero and christian wunsch. the boys are known for a distinct rocking, offbeat infected productions with a silk coating. the boys are pretty busy with their live tour and have finally found some time to perfect some if the tracks they have road-tested many times. this fifth ep sees the guys picking a more layed back style, and it shows pure quality! fans of the sound of dinner, warm-up, tsunami should buy this on sight.

freerange celebrates its 100th 12inch release with a double vinyl release (this is part 2) including brand new tracks from key artists including jimpster, only freak/spirit catcher and palm skin productions. jimpster starts proceedings with a brand new track entitled got a hold on your soul, an appropriate title for a track that ll draw in the dancefloor with its warm, shuffling beats, lush chords and bleepy fx. palm skin productions lose it beefs things up a bit for an edgy tech house track with plenty of funk. belgiums only freak return with mental overdrive (remixed here by their alter egos spirit catcher). they round things off in suitably driving fashion with a powerful, stripped back monster of a track. spirit catcher have been enjoying huge success with their releases as well as awesome live gigs around the world.

radio is one of the highlights of felix da housecat fantastic third album, virgo blaktro & the movie disco. its a shimmering three minute synth soul reverie. with its cascading i cant live without my radio chorus and dippy goosebump melody, radio could be a kissing cousin of buggles 80s hit video killed the radio star. needless to say, its tailor made for the airwaves and is already picking up strong support the board.

in the year of punk 1977, the jams exploded onto the music scene with this seminal debut album. the raw, unfettered aggression of the bands approach was well in keeping with the spirit of the times, but the heart of their songs and sound lay in the mod movement of the mid 60s. singer/guitarist paul weller comes off like a cross between joe strummer and the young pete townshend, bashing unreservedly through slow down, one of the r&b tunes that inspired the original mods. weller extols the virtues of frenzied dancing and nonconformist youth culture over the raging three chord attack of bassist bruce foxton and drummer rick buckler. the pure punk insouciance of his words and delivery is a perfect match for the raging but hooky arrangements, which basically consisted of the band walking into the studio and blazing through their live set. rickenbacker guitars never sounded so thick, and skinny ties never seemed less geeky.

phat deep detroitish club tune !! two great tracks by this new german outfit as the rh-ltd series continues! berlin based pied plat started in 2006 as an electroacoustic live project inspired by the house and techno sound from detroit. growing up in karlsruhe, germany, pied plat members know each other since early childhood and still enjoy hanging around together.

one of japans most intriguing graphic artists >baiyon< has also been producing ethereal and engaging tracks since 1998. having journeyed through cut up hip hop house and dub regions under his conceal moniker, d1 invited him to perform two ecstatically received live sets as baiyon at dublins deaf festival in 2005 and in 2007. now for our 41st in the d1 catalogue we are presenting 4 flawless minimal >trecks< of deep space activity. first up is >s soup< a slick fusion of traditional japanese block grooves and drum machine that climbs its way up into a cloud bursting deep dub house melody explosion. side a is completed by a remix of aforementioned track by south african dj/producer >shane berry< of synewave and trapez fame. the mission continues through >the middle< showing a slightly tougher side to this usually light hearted artist. the plate concludes with a stunning bouncy deep jerky house number >can ride, can walk, cant wait< sweet deep melodies dubbed out over club chuggin beats and a red hot squidge bassline

continuing far outs 7inch series, joyce scats her way over two high octane bossas with an unmistakable feminina-style sound. this 7inch features an exclusive version of feijao com arroz - a track from joyces forthcoming cd yet here with a scorching bassline that differs from the album version and will ensure the tune gets flipped by those djs who know the damage a bass led bossa groove can do to a dancefloor. feijao com arroz - rice and beans - might be the simplest of brazilian dishes yet this track is a master class in samba jazz. joyce and her banda blend the basic ingredients of bass, drums, guitar and vocals into a rhapsodic groove that sounds like it could be a lost classic from seminal joyce albums such as feminina or tardes cariocas. joyce weaves a web of sonorous guitar work in between tuttys frenetic cymbal work as her scat lifts the tune high whilst a driving bassline pushes the groove low, surely putting feijao com arroz up there with the likes of aldeia de ogum and feminina. on the flipside lies penalty, a live favourite from joyces recent japanese tour. again on paper the ingredients look simple - bass, drums, guitar and vocals - yet in the hands of joyce and co the elements are blended together to create a celestial slice of spiritual jazz dance guaranteed to lift even the weariest of souls.

tony lionni is the new signing here at versatile. born in liverpool, his love for the music was passed on to him by his father, a record collector and former dj, who introduced him to crate-digging at the early age of eight. his roots stem from black music. hip-hop will become his musical bases before he discovers the acid-house explosion at the mythical hacienda in manchester. he naturally starts mixing in the late 80s/early 90s, playing a mixture of rare groove, deep-jazz, deep house, etc. he then turns to production and is noticed by gilb-rs fine-tuned ears who signs him on the spot. releases on labels like wavetec and mule musiq are planned further in the year. listening to papaia one cant help to think that 2008 will be the year that progressive house will make its comeback. it has been a long time since we had heard such a simple and effective kick and bass intro. the hi-hat then come in along with a small acid sound. the filter opens before the rhythm accelerates. in the middle of the track, the main melody gets dropped in, arms raise and the listener gets lost in the darkness of the night. on the b side, shuffle explores the deeper roots of lionni. the title is surely a reference to the beat, which is predominant in this track. once again the hi-hats are up infront mixed to percussive sounds, which undulate to the rhythm of the bass, making this track an essential tool, ready-to-use and be mixed into almost anything

fresh minimalistic afro techhouse biggies !! baobab music is proud to present its first release called >le cercle peul<. ivorian producer mr raoul k easily manages to combine the organic grooves of traditional african instruments ( which were recorded live during sessions in ivory coast ) with modern european production techniques.
