a ton of steel and pipes used as instruments? à driving steel beats, accompanied by synthesizer sounds and experimental industrial samples create the sound of pale musics premiere release >phsychomania<. for sure this record, presented by matt eno and steve morell, head of pale music, is no easy listening. five bands / projects come together on this sampler, all of them top name current level of electronic and industrial music. from time to time the music appears to be dark and eerie. guest vocalists include luna di morph and rosa lee riza.

first seconds into already 27th release on recognition, and we immediately know that there is serious business going on here. stunningly complex drum track goes like clockwork, only setting the scene for what is to come. forget the craft of drum programming - we are talking another dimension here. >modern dance< is like being suddenly dropped into suspended animation: having that peculiar feeling that the world around is accelerating to the verge of a seizure - and at the same time this very world feels so slow... unnamable, transparent sheets of sound almost give no room to breathe - but ones breath is taken away by the magnificent landscape it s about to appear. shapes shift under half-closed eyelids, and while the low, peaceful yet sad chant comes in, one can feel it like an omnipresent breath, burning hot and marble cold at the same time. this mysterious and heart-wrenching voice comes courtesy of one yula, and were gonna surealy hear much more from her in the future. and it seems that the beats literally start to boil... rhythms shuffle and swing, and taken the lack of floating melodies abundant in jaceks earlier output this track is even more outstanding from theproducers former work - probably acting as a bridge towards new visions, appearing in the confidence of the new, almost-perfect studio.

moleculez returns to meta4 ready to clear dancefloors with some of his most destructive material to date. you know you are dealing with some serious dance music when none of the tracks on a release have vocal samples. the opening track, future in progress, is blessed with a wonderfully deep kickdrum that would probably even sound good at plus20, although we havent tried that yet. out of a nowhere the track suddenly seems to have stopped when an eerie melody creeps out of the dark. this sets the tone for the rest of the release: dark, driving and threatening. gargoyle is the most driving. lava bomb the eeriest: and future in progress the most threatening. thats what we think, anyway. you decide. the last two tracks on this release are probotector and the haunted. the first is actual textbook honest to goodness industrial hardcore while the latter isnt really anything we can talk about here. highly recommended because we want to sell records

an excellent comilation if the fine future times label that has 4 tracks by beautiful swimmers, sensual beings, max d and protct u... as fairly unknown producers doing some shit hot disco funk and pure house tracks that would have been regulars in larry levans box, if he still would have been around. not sure where all these guys all of a sudden come from... but some seriously good music here!

some serious biznizz goin on here, no doubt - elementals brand new 12 inch for reduction brings some major, dirty break-step action to the floor, phat-ass, squelchy, distorted, squashed low-end and rollin beats make for two dark and heavy drops. this is the kind of style that wears its junglist roots on its sleeve, with a real, late night warehouse rave nastiness - and we totally love it. elementals growing reputation for tough dubstep cuts is supported by a succession of releases from him for labels such as audio freaks and urban graffiti, he s had tracks appear alongside scuba on hotflush, released with caspa & rusko (dub police / destructive), been remixed by boxcutter, and featured on fabric live.32 mixed by tayo. bristols reduction label first debuted with a plate from wedge (paradise lost / z-audio) featuring a remix from gatekeeper (soul jazz / tempa). here they bring a prime slice of local talent from a west country city positively teeming with innovative music.

blasta s saga comes to an end with part 3 of his incredible adventures of kenzolika and quetzalcoatl among the air castles series. the product of an over-active imagination, this series has fused dubstep and post-garage riddims with traces of jazzy easy listening and psyched exotica. the most successful effort here has to be the garage rollidge of black muscatel offset by smooth and dreamy-clean synth keys, while zeppelin nacelle sails off with gently propulsive garage bass and trip42 brings the story to an end with down pitched dubstep beats subsiding into sunset 303s.

trademark is the collaboration of tony reeves and tundra records labelmate loki. formed in 2000, the trademark project blends electronic studio craft with the live influence of their years playing jazz. trademarks output ranges from chillout through breakbeat to deep house and even drum and bass, but always with the fusion of deep jazzy chords, rolling beats and searing synths that define their style.
ia2 showcases all kinds of broken beats and trademark here provide another 3 varied tracks, with great support all round. new frontiers is a funky, upbeat broken dancey track and has had loads of support from promos. great progression through the track and some great riffs and percussion. outworld has been compared to early earth stuff from bukem and cafe del mar stuff, deep broken beats and sunny pads, great arrangement. lovely deep bass and textures. south central is a more straight up broken track, probably the most chilled of the bunch live live sounding bass and a nice deep vibe.

thanks to the blinding fabric live mix and a series of highly entertaining interviews the demand for new omar-s product is now at an all time high. hes on top form here with three fresh cuts representing his sound to the fullest. opening track flying blind is a must have for fans of the deeper omar s tracks like psychotic photosynthesis. following that up is still serious nic which is probably my favourite track on the record, its got that heavily monged out raw omar-s machine vibe to it. things straighten out a bit on the b-side thanks to the smoothed out vocal house of left him up. then it finishes off with the deep house of flying gorgars. once again omar-s proves hes too steps ahead of the deep house pack. essential

quince is here with a follow-up to his previous music man outings, and it s a true dancefloor bomb concerning >wires<, think carl craig, massive break, roaring bassline, hands in the air, and you re almost there!!!

after a little silence from rotterdams sound architecture label they are on a roll again! after releasing music by joris voorn, shawn rudiman, rejected (when they were still rather unknown) they bring up some new talented producers! the sound architecture guys are hosting some of the best techno events in the netherlands.. and meet a lot of young producers.. and here is another example that with good a&r even young bedroom producers can release some hot club tracks! file this under the hottest new school house tracks on the market!

welcome to rebel intelligence - the new label is ready to make you pop like it was 1984 all over again! their first single is by the uks matt whitehead, one half of signal type (along with phil bolland on the cultivated electronics label) and captures the style of early electro funk in all it s analogue glory. so good! the a sides >beat the heat< is the more pacey of the two tracks here, constantly building with vintage synth stabs and the true feeling of electro, reminding us of harold faltermeyer and all those cats so heavy influenced by kraftwerk. on the flip, >tuff city< combines classic b-boy sounds and punchy drum programming to create an authentic listening experience that will make you want to get your lino out and bust some moves. highly recommended.

the new series for raw no-nonsens techno and house tracks. some straight up techno... some edgy, exciting and fresh, sometimes just plain functional dj tools. first one is mike dehnert with his solid umlaut track that was overlooked by many when it was released on his own fachwerk imprint. mike is one of the big talents with his own trademark sound.. something we don t hear to often! 3 unreleased verions of umlaut2... mikes first unreleased mix, slightly housier then the first one, the umlaut2 new version which is a straigth up club tool. big surprise here is the remix by levon vincent! a new talent from new york that got his name on the map after 3 incredible releases on his own novel sounds and deconstruct labels. he did a more then excellent job with his dirty and housier version. levon did lay down a crazy groove with an old fashioned hook line (very n.y. house) and mold it into a fierce techno track. fresh and completely different then most techno out there these days.

temple of the sun is the fifth ep of the london based french producer harold boue. after his last track >chandler bing< has been charted by erol alkan and played by simian mobile disco, rex the dog (for bbc), mattie safer... abstraxion is creating here an universe of mixed up dark and brightness with warped-schizophrenic bassline. this ep reaches the diversity of abstraxions universe: from peaktime techno (b and s, temple of the sun), disco-balearic (slices), to beatless deep ambient (vampyros lesbos). abstraxion is composing an organic music, only with old analog synthesizers, in a gesture of unmitigated desire: a desire for the elementary beauty of techno.

computor rockers return after the worldwide hit that was computor interface (brk49) with another showcase of exactly how electro should be put together. all too often retro can mean dull and uninspired (or just lame plagiarism), but anyone who has been following ed dmxs career over the last several years will know that really isnt the way he plays the game. instead he understands the value of songs and melody... the beats are fresh, without a doubt, but it will usually be the tune or the lyrics that will hook you into a dmx production, the elements that turn just another electro track into something unique and valuable. and so it proves here, from the classic computor shock (which helpfully comes in vocal and instrumental versions for those who just cant do the voice thing) to the melodic and hooky electro-funk of how we used to rock and distributed processing. stunning as always!

another legendary techno producers deliver the goods on be as one. this time is swedens own samuel l session with 2 singles straight out of his upcoming first ever artist album, soon to be released on the israeli label. big bad drum is exactly what the title says, a drums driven track with a bassline reminiscent of saundersons e-dancer techno. already tested by a few lucky ones, this tune is having a monster impact on the dancefloors with its funky snares and distinctive over voice . chimes still carries an old school vibe, taking a classical and deeper approach. sls sound at its best, reminds us why the don has been here for the last 15 years. a solid preview of what to expect from samuels album, classical groovy techno which reminds us how real techno is suposed to sounds like. forthcoming on be as one in october.

quality remastered reissue of automats legendary self titled lp. originally released in 1978 and produced by claudio gizzi and romano musumarra, this lp was completely groundbreaking at the time being built completely from synthesised sounds and rhythms with the band even building their own synth especially for the job. now one of the holy grails of the italo disco scene, the original changes hands for top dollar on ebay etc. features the classic æautomat - the rise, the advance, the genius, a magnificent italo synth epic spanning the whole of side a which features in dutch electro disco don i-fs top five italo records of all time. available here with full original sleeve artwork, this is a must for the serious disco collector.
