charted by ernesto ferreyra. this ep is inspired by an egg dropping contest that was held at the hotel vancouver when i was a kid. all maner of apparatus were designed to help the eggs land safely after falling the 17 floors. all failed but one. parachutes malfunctioned. ballons drifted into obstructions. wings collasped. the winner: a jar of molasses. the egg was pushed into the center of a large jar full of the thick liquid and the jar was thrown over the side. the jar broke on the street below leaving the egg safe and sticky. i was once told that all jokes come from prison. i often think of those doing time while trying to remember some play on words like - whats the difference between a pickpocket and a peeping tom?..... - though that is one of redd foxxs gems i have a new joke i have yet to use - upon exiting a bathroom, regardless of its particular plumbing, tell the owner that you think their bidet is broken

the boston based alternative rock band buffalo tom formed in 1986. the band around singer/ guitarist bill janovitz became one of the more popular alternative rock bands by the mid 1990s. the 1992 album let me come over was truly the great leap forward for the band, sounding richer, more imaginative, and more emotionally powerful than anything they d recorded before.

next up on tom tragos voyage direct series is maxi mill, a young producer from amsterdam. maxi mill came up under the wings of tom trago, co-producing some of tragos tracks, like >steppin out< or >200 b.c<! >to the next< / >sun rays< is his debut release and showcases his love for raw, dirty and syncopated house music. a hot debut from a producer we will surely hear more of soon. he makes up for another voyage direct banger. the voyage continues

and are a duo living in manchester, uk. they have released a split 12 inch with 16 bit on mindset in 2009, the second 12 inch on black sun records that came out recently and a couple of 12 inches on horizontal ground. they sent me various batches of tracks spanning a wide range of sounds, all rooted in techno to my ears but spanning different tempos, emphasis and mood. i selected three of those tracks to appear on this ep, ranging between 130 and 135 bpm. sasha carassi is back on his phobiq imprint with the fiberboard ep!with synths sounding like liquid tension, the original mix is a journey through tough beats and frantic electronics. the mighty slam are in charge of the first remix and they take the dark and dirty route, stripping the original down and adding some bleakness of their own, only to surprise us with an old school-sounding breakdown. the acid mix is slightly more rolling, featuring snappy drums and pulsating percussion, which takes us to the fourth track of the ep closing up is tom laws, who has been making his own unmistakable noise as of late. utilizing simple,yet solid drums he offers us a clearer picture of the tense synths while maintaining the vibe of the original.
