more nordic talents knocking on the door with some proper house! junk yard connections is the debut release of stocktown duo laguna ladies. aside of the original there are remixes by moomin and baba stiltz. moomin give us a flashback to the 90s bouncy yard, with sunshine and blunts when baba flipping the happy acid vibe up side down and goes into the techno wildness. great to see junk yard connection going so strong!

the occasional (but always excellent) street edits series returns, this time with a trio of high-grade scalpel works from chicago re-edit hero rahaan. as usual, the source material is dusty and obscure, and the reworks revelatory. -city of disco- is in many ways typical of rahaan s work, with carefully cuts and loops being used to create a thumping, house style groove (admittedly one that pays due reverence to the source material). there s more of a celebratory, soulful feel about the impeccable -strung out-, which turns a little-known disco-soul gem into a huggable dancefloor classic. best of all, though, is -brighten you up-, which sits somewhere between later electrofunk and early house, a proto-proto gem, perhaps. either way, it s a killer.

is it balearic recordings latest is the reflextion ep from baldelli & rocca. 3 electronic disco bombs and a quality remix from ray mang. rteflextion is a driving synth italo disco stomper. mr mang adds a little acid and a touch odf house. side b s first track is a classically italo disco dancefloor gem lots of symth action a flappy percussion give this a hypnotic quality ready for some smoke drenched dancefloors. out to lunch is a more quircky take on the same theme. like a lost maxi 12 b-side pf an italian elctropop ftrack from the late 80 s. great ep.

limited hand stamped 7 inch, we can t remember the last time we came across a 7- single of straight-up deep house. certainly, it s a novelty, though there s little novel or cheeky about the two tracks showcased on this diddy, coloured vinyl release from spain s minuendo label. 2deepsoul s a-side, -home-, is effortlessly melodious - a warm, rich and enticing blend of shuffling rhythms, swirling chords and the kind of blissfully electronic melodies that make you want to dance with your eyes shut. there s a more organic and quietly soulful feel about owen jay and melchior sultana s flipside effort, -deserted-. blessed with a delicious double bass line, bespoke keys and a whisper of motor city techno (in terms of the electronics, at least), it s a sublime chunk of sensual deepness.

having previously kept their re-edit series in-house, leeds-based crate-diggers joe s bakery have invited moton (aka london veterans diesel and dave jarvis) to deliver the latest release. those who ve followed the moton records inc series (active since the 90s) will know what to expect: expert re-rubs of obscure material that get the right balance between dancefloor chops and home listening selections. look out for the odd shuffle and electric piano solos of -moody blues-, the percussive early 80s, synth-heavy live disco brilliance of -zoo- (yes, it s definitely balearic) and the hazy, midtempo disco-funk of -bumps-. it s getting progressively hard to find worthwhile re-edit 12- singles, but this one s a genuine killer

the index expands into its fourth chapter with a rich collection of tracks from key label artists marcel fengler, thomas hessler, echoplex and vril. label co-ordinator marcel fengler drops scion on the a1, a non-typical, deeper house-influenced jam with a floating, mind-melting soft-focus. abstract, crafty techno meets classic sunday-afternoon vibes in this unique offering. after his wonderful 4-tracker on imf003 promising talent thomas hessler continues his run with the melodic and stark journey track, the escaper. what is initially shrouded in mystery and melancholy opens up into a funky, us vs. uk-styled workout, snapping snares and reduced percussion driving the meandering synth theme. echoplex, who graced imf002, also returns with a suitably trippy and percussive number, entitled the relapse. building into a bleepy, freaky, acidic killer, complete with some cleverly deployed rave vocal samples, filtering in and out of the fluffy aesthetic, the long-serving polish master is still on top form. going for impact and stand-out sound design, vril offers thronwagen, a mesmerising arrangement of synth layers, classic techno stabs and overlapping themes. already well-known for his powerful drums and bottom end control, this more musical piece goes a long way to showcase some of the german producers many other talents.

after an a-side debut on m_red ltd�s heady 10�� series, shadowy outfit overall severity return with their first full outing for key vinyl. much like the slabs of steely sonic wares that have paved the way before it, �knowing the healing� presents three works of on-point dance floor material we�ve come to associate with the underground tastemaker. �explain pain� is the ep�s aggravated opener. a pounding kick and itchy percussion unfurls into a din of claps and noises, spliced with melodious peals and a low-slung sort of groove. �backfiring nerves� is one of those cool peak-time weapons: frantic yet subtle, deeply groovy and plied with much-loved vintage crashes. �parasympathetic� then concludes in the form of a chugging basement bomb awash with bleary acid tones, crystal hats and muted dissonant chimes. all in all, �knowing the healing� marks a powerful entry into the ring from these ones-to-watch newcomers.

compuphonic aka maxim firket is a multifaceted producer and dj from liege, belgium, who was raised on a well-balanced diet of classical music, early electronics and industrial variants from kraftwerk to front 242, and the revolutionary soundwave that swept over from detroit, michigan. hence, maxim did not only grow up to become a skillful violoncellist, but also a producer with a unique approach, blending his various sources of inspiration into one intelligent mix of old-school electro, house and minimal stylings.
