celebrated and mercury-nominated uk duo rae & christian released their first new material for ten years in 2013 on night time stories/late night tales after spending the last decade meditating in a buddhist monastery in swindon. this year the label commissioned a series of remixes from mercury rising and mang dynasty (aka ray mang & bill brewster) take on favourite game featuring rising star of the swindon buddhist circuit jake emlyn. mang dynasty focus on gita langley s backing vocal hooks adding a chorus piano motif and stretch things out into an epic nine minute plus main version aimed squarely at the dancefloor (and afghanistan). jake emlyns more aurally-pleasing melodic parts are utilised towards the end taking things up another level to a happy finish. initial reactions have been so strong it seemed rude not to slip out a 12inch on mangled, home of the hits!

the bird and white noise invites to join the travels, and in its long arches and bridges it can easily be listened to as a whole. while the opener or eskimono feature the rather lyrical side of the duo, tracks like land ab neu or chitin set more punchy priorities to a heavy bass and 808 drums. chitin is a late climax of the al- bum, building up for minutes to a massive groove in an insect-like, abstract sound world, leaving just enough space for romantic cello lines to break through in the middle. the record has been released exclusively in japan for the duos tour in april 2014 via pingipungs partner label nightcruising in kyoto. pingipung now releases the lp version and the cd worldwide.

producer and boss of mathematics records, jamal moss a.k.a hieroglyphic being is a one-off musical explorer. jamals music takes cues from the ebm and house that played a huge part in the city s musical underground in the late eighties and early nineties, notably ron hardy and adonis, but also industrial, avant-jazz and noise. his tireless schedule of rough low-key releases over the last 12 years and his intense, very physical, psychedelic music, have made him a key exponent or maybe even a pioneer of what has recently come to be named outsider house, although he prefers the more sun-ra like descriptors of rhythmic cubism and cosmic be-bop.

ronald burrell s second release as equation on nu-groove is as deep as it gets. we re talking late night nyc back room deepness, often imitated but never bettered. -i ll say a prayer 4 u- is the lead track here, a sublime longing synth groove with a nagging bassline and crisp rimshots, a total -under the radar- anthem straight out of new york city circa 1991 and engineered by the equally as legendary bobby konders, a real undercover gem. the other two cuts on the ep drive further into the night, -domm domm, yeah mm hmm- is another dope basement groove, rocking some classic burrell flavours, and -my life- is a real down-tempo piece that reappropriates the roy ayers classic -my life in the sunshine- while giving it a real -100 bpm house- swing, don t snooze... all in all this is another classic release from the nu-groove vaults, re-mastered and re-pressed here for the first time in conjunction with nu-groove records and the burrell brothers. essential.

italian band n.o.i.a. was amongst the first electronic music groups to emerge in the late seventies and early eighties alongside peers like kraftwerk and depeche mode. nowadays they are re-releasing their back catalogue alongside a carefully curated selection of contemporary remixes and this latest package features rule to survive with a remix from prins thomas.

afro-space-disco contagion - shuffling and wiggling, synthy and bubbling - from this re-incarnation of willy nfors mighty flames, recruited mostly from the wave of cameroonian musicians drawn to nigeria in the late-1970s by its heavy new funk sound.

in the late 60s early 70s many american soldiers where stationed all over germany. among those where musicians who played in several army bands like the east of underground who recorded a now sought after album after they had won the special services entertainment showband contest held in frankfurt in 1971. nobody knows which other bands participated in this contest, maybe also the soul explosion which were stationed in augsburg, upper bavaria. around the same time, a man named charles held opened a club in augsburg town called tarantel. furthermore he was running a record label of the same name on which he released a handful of 7inch singles from different, local bands, mainly not funky at all though. the soul explosions release remains the only one in the field of american soul & funk music. the band recorded a fantabulous double sider, one deep funk side with a soulful ballad on the flip which makes both hardcore funk and soul collectors happy. unfortunately there is no more information available about the band, only that they even performed live at the tarantel club.

accompany the reissue of woo s into the heart of love, emotional rescue is releasing a limited 7inch featuring songs not included on the vinyl pressing, plus a previously unreleased version of the beautiful title song, which only appeared in later form on their cd only, la luna album. with the original into the heart of love album only appearing as a 60 minute cassette-only release, several of the albums songs could not make the first time vinyl issue from emotional rescue. therefore, this limited edition 7inch includes two of those ommited songs. the wistful english folk duet between mark ives and sue amor on make me tea and it s sibling on the album, a little long way. possibly woo s most straight forward folk song, make me tea is as the title imagines a very particular english poem. recording as a duet between two late night lovers, awaking from post-love making slumber to find peace and with it, a nice, perfect cup of tea. however, it is the inclusion of the unreleased version of the title song, magic in the dark that is worth the admission price alone. taken from the cd only album, la luna, the original s short and gentle story of late night love is presented here in it s alternate demo form. a different vantage point is shown in revelation and then exhaltation. the sadder start expands in to a beautiful and wonderus folk celebration. mark s vocals and guitar are later joined by gentle rhythmic percussion from brother clive, before clarinets duet to a yearning finale. woo once again showing their unique mix of folk and new age electronics. a one off to cherish.

the menace ep sums up everything that is exciting about the no artificial colours sound: raw, soulful, rooted in classic garage and house, big room party vibes with underground cool, it is no surprise to see the pair have been highly lauded by the likes of pitchfork, vice, i-d and fact of late.

scherbe is back on uncanny valley with his second full length ep. after his recent contribution to the uv20-compilation and a record on fourth wave he returns with the aptly titled >late nite safari< and shows off again his knack for rumbling beats and fuzzy synths

this is for those with hard heads, black lungs, and scarred hearts. it is for the dreamers who construct darts on loose-leaf and those revolting against corporate life and casual fridays. it is castles return of the gasface, released on mello music group, remixed by has-lo with a new track and revamped verses. the new record tilts at a different angle, but the beats still bludgeon without sacrificing soul. the raps are rugged yet introspective. the north carolina natives voice is grizzled and shot through with the fatigue that comes from late nights, cigarettes and coffee. has-los beats coax a deeper melancholy out of castles hymns.

qy live in the western part of leipzig which is dominated by industrial architecture from the past. some of the tracks created here were released on the blank slate (2013) and ortloff (2013, 2014). shortly, an e. p. will expand their catalog, released on the u.s. label roundabout sounds. in addition to new productions qy are currently working on a system based solely on hardware live set.

worx very cleverly tap up in-demand parisian dj and producer the mekanism for its first release here, squeezing out three of the artist s finest tracks to date. >bogoto< fuses a disco groove and 70s strings with some classic deep house piano, and creates a heavenly peak time roller, while >2 galactic< is pure 80s hip house fire, fusing cut-up vocals with a pounding late night groove. taking things down a notch, singing beasts goes deep and jazzy to close proceedings on whats another great addition to the producers discography, and a sterling first outing for worx.
