tony lionni is the new signing here at versatile. born in liverpool, his love for the music was passed on to him by his father, a record collector and former dj, who introduced him to crate-digging at the early age of eight. his roots stem from black music. hip-hop will become his musical bases before he discovers the acid-house explosion at the mythical hacienda in manchester. he naturally starts mixing in the late 80s/early 90s, playing a mixture of rare groove, deep-jazz, deep house, etc. he then turns to production and is noticed by gilb-rs fine-tuned ears who signs him on the spot. releases on labels like wavetec and mule musiq are planned further in the year. listening to papaia one cant help to think that 2008 will be the year that progressive house will make its comeback. it has been a long time since we had heard such a simple and effective kick and bass intro. the hi-hat then come in along with a small acid sound. the filter opens before the rhythm accelerates. in the middle of the track, the main melody gets dropped in, arms raise and the listener gets lost in the darkness of the night. on the b side, shuffle explores the deeper roots of lionni. the title is surely a reference to the beat, which is predominant in this track. once again the hi-hats are up infront mixed to percussive sounds, which undulate to the rhythm of the bass, making this track an essential tool, ready-to-use and be mixed into almost anything

radius unleashes part 3 of its best of superradio series treating us with yet another timeless classic. fuerza major by camaros gang, one of the more edgy italo disco groups, is one of those tracks that effortlessly show us how those mad italians went on to influence 80s pop music for years to come. fuerza major has all the essential elements, typical vintage bassline, cheesy pop melodies, catchy and vague i met this girl in a new york discotheque vocals straight from a melancholic heart. its simply joyfull nostalgia from 1985. as to the remix, tensnake, who already released a brilliant ep on radius, did the honours and gave fuerza major a deeper disco vibe with plenty of his own funky twists and turns. radius set off once again to make you shake your hips to the past of the future!

kontra-musik 006 moves the label into the analog domain of electronic dance music. this kind of sound you only get with the good old analogues. the a-side, produced by the master of the modular system, pseudonym scaff, takes us deep down our favorite techno memory lane. if techno was the meeting of kraftwerk and george clinton in an elevator, ssm 440 is the outcome of jeff mills and maurizio having breakfast at tiffanys. this track is warm, dubby and monotonous but with a drive heading straight for the late night dance floor. the b-side gives us two unique sounding tracks from pseudonym aparatus. city tunnel slowly and elegantly grinds, cranks and turns while building its way towards dance floor bliss. x-presso is best described as periodic fluctuations of voltages in the analog domain. elegant details of beautiful sound take us back to the time when minimal music still was interesting. this is >techno< in the sense that the term was originally intended. enjoy cause analog is the bastard

after releases on sonar kellektiv and melting pot music its now time for jazzanova member (sygaire) to join forces with defcon. this time we re going back way back back into time (jimmy castor style)! as you might guess its all about the old school breaks on this one. with some crazy production skills we get served a massive break beat medley that will be hard to match and that most likely will get those feet in the air with any decent b boy. not much of song, but what a dj tool. b boys watch out! on the flip sygaire goes on a solo venture with a truly adventurous track. the barracuda combines funny cartoon voices, broken beats, uk 2 step styled b lines and lil touch of jazz into one crazy track. its already had heads turned everywhere its been played and is sure to be that special peak hour tune that brings the party barometer into a dangerous red. beware of the bass line drop ok!

montreal born native alex hender started his career in the mid 90s. after watching one of his friend djing at a high school dance party, he decided to buy a pair of turntables, a mixer and began shopping some records. its in a record shop,at the age of 15, that he discovered the sound of new york and chicagos house.alex has been a resident in some of montreals most famous clubs. the legendary limelight was his first home. he also played at redlite, gravity and a lot of other gigs around the city. being a buyer for years in a record shop, alex got in touch and upfront with whats hot & whats the next big thing.his musical style got a lot of influence from the funky chicago stuff and the dirty german minimal tech sound.since then, aside from djing and collecting an amazing amount of vinyls, alex focuses more into production, to reach another step in his career. we can only expect greater things to come from him in the future
