after years sound tracking the dancehalls of bristol via their considered selections as djs, brotherly pair the kelly twins add label bosses to their cvs with the establishment of happy skull. the label kick offs in illustrious fashion with a collaborative release between two of bristols most interesting producers, kowton and hyetal. adopting the name systems of desire, the pair worked on a track together, before going off to produce their own individual versions entitled *control* and *consumption*, the results are exactly the intriguing cross between kowtons raw, crunchy, grime influenced techno and hyetal’s glistening synth work you would imagine.

kowtons reimagining of paul woolfords classic cut sees the light of day on wax. swivelling outside and in, popping upside and around the coveted bristol producer behind livity sound leaves an indellible mark on a notorious tune. includes both beatdown and beatless versions.

having previously impressed with vivid blends of cosmic r&b, skewed space-pop, glistening post-ambient soundscapes and mangled, synth-laden grime, rising star throwing shade (aka producer nabihan iqbal) demonstrates her dancefloor side with a killer 12- on happy skull. -chancer- and -blanx- both retain iqbal s uniquely intergalactic aesthetic,whilst flitting between jacking, chicago-influenced house rhythms and jazzy, off-kilter dancefloor grooves. synths sparkle, while vocal snippets drift in and out of the mix. the 12- is completed by a riotous, predictably heavyweight remix from kowton, whose guttural techno grooves are peppered with cut-up samples of iqbal s distinctive, dreamy vocals.

*end point / vapours* is the one of two new livity sound 12 inches to be unleashed in the run up to the release of the livity sound double cd compilation this autumn. this first 12 inch is a fresh collaboration between peverelist and kowton, their first since the anthemic raw code for hessle audio at the start of the year.

kowton and tom dicicco, residing in bristol and manchester respectively, make very different music from one another. kowtons seems to come from house, perhaps also electro and garage, often quite slow in tempo and hard to pin down to a specific genre. toms music is techno, bass heavy, melodic, textured and rooted around 125 bpm. with these distinctive styles the idea of a split ep might seem ambitious, but the result is four cohesive but different tracks that show the talents of both artists perfectly in the format of two originals on one side and two remixes of each others originals on the other. tom diciccos original is driven by a low-mid range thick stab and pounding kick drum, littered with intricate but not overbearing hi hat and snare work and some very atmospheric mid range. kowtons is subtle and sparse, low fidelity and plodding, with rattling percusion carrying the tune along. on the other side of the record, kowtons remix of toms original is driven by an enormous bassline, with an off kilter dubby feel to the slow tempo and genre defying tune. toms remix of kowton rounds off the ep with a return to stab driven techno, pulsating, dynamic and trance inducing.

bristols local hero kowton contributes to teals fourth release - the slowly grooving house gem that is dirty little bomb slowly evolves through cold, industrial soundscapes yielding one of the more introvert yet danceable tracks seen on teal so far. the mysterious player rivet reworks kowtons gem on the flipside - cranking up the tempo, layering lush synth hits and shifty groove - power moves!

after debuting on mr. gs phoenix g imprint in 2016 with the unfamiliar territory ep, jayson wynters makes an appearance on dba for this, his second release, backed by a kowton remix. jayson wynters is a dj that is able to combine many genres in one set and make it work. wynters was first known as a garage mc in birmingham, before rising to prominence in the city s underground radio and club scene, where he showcased an impressive knowledge of rare groove and house music. as he got older his taste for music began to mature, his collection began to grow, and he soon began to dj. using music as an outlet for expression, whether in the form of djing or having fun on some drum machines and synths, is one of the most defining features to wynters. he continues to fuel his passion by keeping an eye on the future rather than the past and striving to remain different.
