for its 4th release, piff records recruits from as far afield as possible, tapping adelaide-based subjoi who adds to his already diverse and sought-after discography. he presents a set of tracks that are somewhat of a departure from previous releases, employing a uk garage sound all the way from australia.
seb zitos seven dials imprint serves up its third offering with jamie trench & khalil anthony continuing to champion the early garage flavours that the label is fast becoming known for. what was missing transports you back to the 90s with that ukg groove, bumping sub bass goodness and kahlil s gritty vocals. the dub mix leaves only a small portion of the vocals in the mix, chopping them todd the god style and giving the shuffling garage rhythm more room to breathe. on the b side label head, seb zito, switches things into peak-time roller territory, dampening the kick whilst putting more emphasis on the hats, dubbing out vocal snippets, adding acid flurries and throwing in an epic echoed breakdown. all three mixes make a clear nod to the past, whilst firmly setting themselves in the present gold again from seven dials.
huge debut release by asquith on a very special self-released white label. with the lobster theremin boss having flexed his production muscle on previous releases as tom hang and chicago flotation device, this sees the seasoned british talent step out from behind the veil and lay down a seriously stomping bassline-driven garage-house a-side backed by a summery terrace-slaying mix of the aptly titled “the conditioning track”.

nordic ice meets spanish fire in the latest offering from fine grains records collaboration series. blais is a split ep featuring norwegian skweee boss beatbully and barcelona-based machine funk don fitzroy north. the release is complete with three distinct remixes by young scottish grime producer inkke, synthetic funk master joe howe (fka ben butler & mousepad) and one of the finest contemporary beats producers this side of the atlantic, mwëslee. the artwork comes from norwegian graphic artist halvor bodin. blåis , one of over 100 nordic words for snow and ice, occurs when snow falls on a glacier, is compressed, and becomes part of the glacier. over the course of 8 tracks, beatbully & fitzroy north squeeze the maximum from their respective mpc & synth setups to deliver an unpretentious and fun mix of synthetic funk with a punch. moments of minimality, sweet harmonies, bleeps, squeaks and bass are compressed into a gleaming crystallised form
lil silvas new 3-track release with good years is aimed strictly for club play. beginning with the surging energy of drumatic and followed by the silky electronics of new squeeze and the minimalistic swing of 606, it highlights the bedford producers uk grime roots together with timbaland-like idiosyncratic sonic ticks and afro-centric syncopation. all three tracks have received strong radio support from the likes gilles peterson, mary anne hobbs, toddla t, monki and benji b on bbc radio 1, 6music and 1xtra, as well as plays across rinse and kiss fm a release that further cements silvas reputation as one of the countries leading production lights.
seb wildblood returns to the skint imprint as a follow up to his 2014, barcelona / blue colour ep. shadowed by his label mate apes, this release sees the two take on either side of the 10 inch with a familiar sound echoed by their church imprint. wildblood ignites the record with the bubbly and soothing concocton of noshi that fows seemingly under the vocals of phantasy afliate kelly lee owens. apes sits close on the fip side with a more club friendly ode to london, mortmer road. an eerie night time synth crawls through the suburban sounds of apes we ve been conditoned with since the up-rise of the church sound.

it can be hard to pin down the elements that make up a citys signature sound, but when you hear it, you know it. and winston hazels new track, *break up*, is 100 per cent sheffield, from the boom and buzz of its bassline to the bitter-sweet choral hook that pierces it through the heart. not that this is a surprise.

gravious (real name alastair jackson) is a dubstep and electronic music producer based in glasgow. his early releases came via the hotflush label, and its scuba sub-label. more recent releases have come through highpoint lowlife, davey jones, saigon and broken bubble. now gravious offers halocyan his most ambitious work to date, the *rolling thunder ep*. the eps title track begins with glassy, plinking synths that segway into a rollicking, stuttering beat. pitched up vocals lend a 90s throwback vibe to this fun, uplifting number. hotly tipped new york producer octo octa (100% silk) cools down the original with loads of house flavor and his own pristine melodies. on the b-side, *release*, is a towering, glacial epic pushed along by a lurching, pulsating bassline and sensual, shifting vocals. closing out the record is *sulaco squares*, a taut, careful arrangement packed to the brim with colorful melodies and arpeggios.

ikonika is one of the outstanding producers of her generation. her 2008 debut >please< (hyperdub), announced a forward thinking, highly melodic, twisted take on uk underground dance music. after further singles for planet mu and hyperdub, she went on to release one of the best albums of 2010 ‘contact, love, want, have’, receiving glowing reviews from the guardian, bbc, nme, fact, resident advisor, pitchfork among many more. her remix projects have included interpol, caribou, cubic zirconia and dj mujava.
belfast bass producer unknown who has built up a huge following with a steady stream of tunes on youtube and soundcloud, made his vinyl debut with last years #001-010 series on champion sound recordings, and now he returns to the label with his best and most diverse work yet, the i cry ep. the unknown trademarks – waves of sub-bass, expertly swung percussion and a dark, seductive and tense atmosphere – are all there, and he is pushing into new and fascinating territories too, with some brighter textures, house vibes and his first ever vocal collaboration on the stunning title track, *i cry*.
lil jabba isnt like the rest of them. while they are busy joining the dots between house and techno or whatever is safe right now, he is throwing paint all over the page. he is not american, but he is affiliated with chicagos teklife crew (dj spinn, dj rashad, etc.) and divides his time between baltimore and brooklyn, exhibiting his visual art, riding around with his bike gang and making some of the most hypnotic juke and footwork you will ever hear. local action have been figuring out a release with him for over a year - eventually an ep wasnt enough, and they persuaded him to make it a full-length album, scales. some of scales has already seen the light of day through youtube or limited cassette releases, some of it is unheard. some tracks sound cleaner than others, that is because they are newer. that is how these things work. what is consistent throughout scales is the quality: across 12 tracks, jabba flips, twists and inverts the footwork template with endless layers of samples, gurgled vocal tags, jazz licks and whatever else he feels like. these arent trax, they are tapestries.
as apple pips continues to explore its opening mantra of echo, depth, swing and bass within the duplicitous realms of modern electronica, it welcomes to the fold two long-standing friends of the label and in turn sheds light on their own fresh avenues within house music. you might already know lrusse as id or behling, commonly found kicking up the dust alongside sam baobinga simpson in all manner of styles and tempos, while bleecker has an accomplished back-story in dubstep as wedge & through his own if symptoms persist imprint. in their new venture both producers fuse their dancefloor inclinations with more searching, experimental textures and tones, placing crafty sound design on a level pegging with the more immediate tropes of groove and presence.
m1 sessions presents chips n chittlins vol. 1, featuring the talents of paul randolph and his timeless world view of musical influence. the full album previously released in limited numbers on cd will be released in two volumes on 12 inch. this project offers a 2 step garage sound blended with house and r&b. randolph has only begun to leave a magical legacy of sound behind him as his trail blazes light years in all directions of the universe.
877 records join with longtime friends and collaborators to present the well rounded rebel alliance ep. klic and riskotheque lead the way with their track compton, a bass heavy anthem already rocking the clubs and doing damage on radio. stomping 808′,,,,s, sing along vocals and acid arpeggios join perfectly to form this instant classic. donga & blake more than do justice to the original with the compton give a dam jam remix. a perfect example of their sublimely considered approach, the reworking is an altogether deeper four to the floor roller using only finely selected elements from the original. well rounded in the house! next up is skeleton grin by donga & blake + richta. this original composition features vocals by donga over an intense and metallic techno-esque bass and kick. we are true believers in the power of a b-side and this is no exception.
vulkandance started as a party for african dance music in berlin in 2010. the amazing feedback and success of the party led nomad to turn it into a series of events and into a concept (including theme based decoration and sometimes catering) that travelled and hosted some of the cream of afro and global funk/disco djs, including legends such as beppe loda
fresh again, silks favorite dunce-dance diva, maria minerva, tries on a new wardrobe with her bless ep. busting out with sweet n swingy single black magick, minerva caters her classic la-la lyrics about an occult/joke-cult romance over a new waif, schneider-esque pop-rock lobsta beat. space 4 u slips echo-drone vocal monologues over a laface-style rnb booty bumper, while symbol of my pleasure sneers with a walk this way funk lick, both reminding fans of minervas naughty/playful creep-creativities. rounding out the ep are soul searchin – a sleazy, down-tuned, junk-jungle comatose doser – and lady blacktonikas black magick garage trippin remix – a layer cake of luscious tush pushin and an ode to another sassy lady, miss kier herself. confidence is key, and this is maria minerva struttin,’ on and off key, through her newest collection of wand songs.
championsound continue to blaze a trail, showcasing some of the hottest new talent to emerge from irelands vibrant music scene!! following hot on the heels of the premiere release on champion sound in 2013 , next in line comes the work of prolific northern irish producer, t-polar, whose previous releases on acroplane, saigon recordings, morris audio, !kaboogie records and rebirth garnered the support of everyone from mary anne hobbs to 2562 to boddika. in keeping with his previous output and adding to what must surely be irelands deepest discography in electronic music (dating back to 2004), t-polar (aka gary spence) releases feetwork, an ep which hop-scotches genres, roughened up by the searing properties of hoover bass, teamed with tough, rolling kicks, nods to leftfield house and vintage rave, and peppered with skittering two-step grit. the remix in the pack comes from the increasingly ubiquitous unknown whose youtube uploads and remixes have been setting the internet alight with speculation.
samoyed kicks off vases 2013 with two undeniably brave tracks and a change in direction for the hyped producer. breaking into new territory for the u.k artist he kicks off with sloe eyes, an percussive builder of a track with rave stabs and a brilliant catchy vocal hook. utilizing his brilliant use of the ethereal he keeps the club edge on this track emotional and heartfelt. the b-side guts starts with a hypnotizing vocal loop that slowly transcends into almost autechre territory but with an ear for african house on the drums. dj support comes from hudson mohawke, pearson sound, krystal klear and benji b. samoyed starts 2013 with a bang

the return of goldffinch on saigon recordings with remixes of two tracks from their 2 part ep series from last year. first up is a rework of *funky steppa* arguably the belgian duos biggest tune to date on a club level with huge dj support from the likes of boddika, jackmaster, oneman and more – stepping up on the remix duties is none other than resident swamp 81 producer trusta with a psychedelic monster of a relick. on the flip policy fresh from his superb album on rush house attacks *outer twigs* to sublime effect, taking the original framework and truly making the track his own, it is a journey you wont want to come back from.
there are two tracks on nottingham producer spares >slacking ep< that immerse you really well in his taught world of bass pressure. kankle is firing tribal house, though its hard to get the measure of how the thud of the kick drum could ever fit under the bass work, and the weekend is a clipped garage pound with serenely oppressive low end
proper four track 12 inch vinyl! curious will get em jackin, medicine is a brazen belter, without end is all sultry and steamy with lust and longing and teedraheedren takes you on a psychedelic electro-funk odyssey before dovetailing into a dubbed-out arpeggio wonderland. we really are extremely pleased with the vibe of this release. hope it hits you in a good place

(gatekeep rmx) the artist responsible for several great eps on hot flush, applepips, deca rythm & if symptoms persist is an obvious fit for inhale with his genre spanning style and high production value!
pianobatacazoo provides us his most powerful set up ever: vibrations and deephouse oriented strokes charged with baroque sensuality, decorating and presenting himself extra sensitive through solid percussion lines that come from uk-funky, counteracting with elegant shines of real instruments. mngc, a more minimal cut built from an explicit mutant bass line that works as the spine that receives new tools through the playing of the tune: dry falterings, bipolar personality that makes his own the mysticism of the original dubstep or the synth motifs connected with the intensity of the deep techno.
enigma dubz is consistently tearing up dancefloors worldwide, this time round he teases us with a medley of deep garage tracks. enigma dubz really steps into his own with this ep, creating a solid ambience between all 3 tracks fusing deep basslines with two-step beats. all 3 tracks are heavily influenced by ukg which all show tones of enigma dubz influences from the likes of mj cole right through to nice n ripe. while their remix of jessie ware continues to tear up the worldwide scene, disclosure entice us with two silky and lucid house cuts that don t fall anywhere short from being timeless - brilliant stuff from the youngsters du jour, once again.
dj support from: toddla t, whistla, stinkahbell, rob da bank, giles peterson, eddie temple morris, mary anne hobbs, last japan, disclosure, huxley, el b, sticky, dj q, bbc radio1, bbc 1xtra, xfm, mash (capital fm)
ig cultures holy rollers label comes correct with two fiery, teched-out funky bombs from major notes. the >o beasity ep< is his debut on holy roller and one of the freshest funky 12 inches we have heard in 2012 - not watered down or some tepid attempt at house proper. >rokit< works out some killer tribalist polyrhythms and batty-squeezing bass pressure laced with shades-on synth beams on the a-side, up there with the likes of funkystepz or ill blu, while >o beasity< gets overlarge on the flip, wrangling martial snares, tribal calls and hard-bodied bass with the ruffest intent.
berlin based producer murphy on exploited... , with releases on clone, turbo and recently hypercolour, he has carried on the vibe of chicago and disco. on lets get to it he features one of the true cofounders of the real chicago vibe: mike dunn. on the remixtip serge santiago (who is recently in waze & odyssey) came up with a totally unexpected hot uk garage mix that already has been praised by skream. move your body to the sound. too good to miss this one! early support by a variety of djs: from joakim, to skream, to soulwax, to noir, to visionquest, robert owens, dirt crew and many more.
hypeltd are happy to introduce another new talent in the form of j. alvarez. it is a name you wont know yet, but the man behind it – seattle based producer chris 214 – has already made a name for himself with some rude electro, techno and even ghetto tech releases on in-the-know labels like frustrated funk (a subsidiary of clone) harbour city sorrow (and again) and others. now, though, he is on a house tip, and it is for that reason that he has assumed this new moniker…
continuing in the tradition of offering up sounds a little less accessible than its older hypercolour brother, hypeltd seems to have once again unearthed a producer more than worthy of popular attention.
quickly rising on the horizon of the london electronic scene, croydon-based deft joins forces with wotnot music for an enchanting two-track ep with three beastly remixes. while driving dancefloors wild with an energetic and fresh brand of ghetto-tech and footwork, defts production on this release betrays his hip hop origins in a whole new way, with seductive beats, g-funk-esque top lines and unlimited swagger.
lv return to hyperdub with a taste of whats to come on their forthcoming south london-meets-south africa album sebenza, due at the end of august. what lv make here is the exciting prospect of music influenced by south african house and kwaito, informed by regular trips out there and sessions with up and coming south african artists such as okmalumkoolkat, ruffest and spoek mathambo, but letting the influences of uk soundsystem music and hip hop bleed naturally into the mix too, creating a genuine hybrid.
carrying on from the success of their last release from artifact, deadplate records present hackman & blutos what matters. what matters is a bouncing house track with a weighty bass line, sure to waken up any dance floor and perfectly timed for the summer. marimba vibes keep this track bubbling along with an addictive and strong melody that has become unanimous with hackmans style. james fox creates a powerful 4/4 remix on the flip, stripping back the original and bringing a mid-90s uk garage flavour to the table. a real powerhouse on the dance floor, this is one of the strongest pieces of work from one of the uks most exciting house producers. supported by rob da bank, ma1, west norwood cassette library, guy andrews, midland, goldffinch, artifact, thefft
pressed on 180gr vinyl... phonica records inaugurate a new series of releases that will fall under the special editions banner. a series that will feature collaborations, one-off releases and anything that doesnt fit into the main labels outlook. the first release comes from sinkane, a hotly tipped new artist from ny. sinkane is the project of sudanese-born musician ahmed gallab. gallab cut his own teeth as a youngster in the punk diy landscape of middle america, and then found himself touring far and wide as a member of yeasayer, caribou, eleanor friedberger, born ruffians, and of montreal. he has emerged from it all as sinkane, a project that identifies a renaissance within the space and spirit of the outposts of contemporary music. with an aesthetic range seamlessly shifting from soul to rock, and from jazz to pop, sinkanes vibe is timeless and the sound is now. runnin is a song taken from a collection of songs simply titled mars. on this limited edition 12 from londons phonica records, the album version of runnin is re-imagined as an increasingly dense longburn club jam by daphni (dan snaith of caribou fame) and as a more angular headjam by chandeliers of chicago
played by sven väth !!! night voyage tool kit is the collaborative project of two like-minded producers, night slugs bok bok and tom trago, curator of the rush hour labels voyage direct series. originally commissioned by sound pellegrino label boss teki latex, this is the result of four intense days and nights in toms amsterdam studio, surrounded by hardware and enshrouded in a thick haze. having pursued very different directions in their respective solo work, the duo find common ground in minimalism, dj tools, the neptunes and ghetto house. the result is a collection of stripped down rhythm tracks aimed straight for the club: the arpeggiator workout of pathfinder, vectors cosmic jeep bass, pom clash and its grimey lil louis tribute, and the acid epic lil ma bonus beat.
the history clock is most certainly alive and ticking with this incredible release from argentinian duo, djs pareja. you may be familiar with some early tracks that they have done for matias aguayos peerless comeme label (their excellent ghetto rhythms, kenia and tribal scream), and this is a perfect follow-up. >psycho rhythm<, the appropriately-titled lead track is a brilliant, mid-tempo, mildly-disturbed outsider house / ebm-shocker, coupled with the absolutely perfect roska / uk funky-esque, tropical rhythm of >pampa room<. a track that joins the dots between the bumbumbox parties of buenos aires, the boiler room nights in london and the boxes of the more forward-thinking djs on rinse fm. balearic music fans will immediately fall in love with >spanish is beautiful< - in both original and alejandro paz (comeme / huntleys & palmers) remix formats.
the final chapter of vonstrokes limited vinyl album remixes features some seriously low end.
remix #1 is one the favorites of the entire project. claude met brazils dj marky on an artist bus at a uk festival last summer and gave him the track >aundy<. he asked him to do a mix and marky and his friend s.p.y. turned in this amazing drum n bass version. numerous artists have been dropping it even in the middle of house sets! it really captures the drum n bass feeling of the original track taking it back to the genre which inspired it.
remix #2 is from our up and coming bristol based bass prodigy, julio bashmore. he takes on >california< the co-production by cvs and j phlip to another level, adding smooth low end bukem style bass drops and shimmery vox/pad programming to the already insane track. bashmore is one of the few new breed of uk producers who cross over all the way from house to dubstep.
TIC TAC TOE (STARKEY REMIX) (ORANGE MARBLED VINYL)
coloured 12" Vinyl NL16.02.12
seven tracks on the new lowriders release and its a real joy to listen to! the ep opens with the cheerful title track with the likes of kissey on vocals and it is amazingly sticky and feels like a compendium of 30 years of electronic music, with seemingly effortless transitions between detroit house, booty bass and future music.baby treats you on a twostep/house bumper which will kill you. bek is like your 808 swingbeat ghetto track: redundancy to the bone covered with bubbles and some essential vocoder science. sduk makes baby into a dancefloor stomper, whereas starkeys interpretation of field (which appeared on our beatitude compiler) adds and enhances drama and suspense from the original.and then there is the magical krampfhaft remix of tic tac toe, a worthy last track, schizofrenic, driven and recognizable as a mutated juke screamer.
pressing on orange marbled vinyl.
unknown to the unknown drop 4 bangers on vinyl to bring in ice age season 2 - featuring ice cold hits from capracaras >house of dolls<, to palaces >mandy< - receiving support from hudson mowhawke, hot city, mumdance + many more - this one was a pure blog hit! with mad decent, fact mag, xlr8r & discobelle all singing its praises, epitomising the uttu ethos of cheap but not cheap. on the flip representing the us of a - 5kinandbone5 take 5 from producing for souja boys multimillion dollar empire sodmg gang to drop the ice sex banger >make u understand<. then finishing up with uttus biggest hit to date: dubbel dutchs >b leave< - which saw support from radio giants annie mac, toddla t & mista jam to being picked up by us web moguls pitchfork & fader as a stand out release for uttu recs in effekt!
ross allens meltdown music recordings is kick-starting into life with this stunning mini album/ep from welsh native and production talent evm. evms music holds a fine balance between the contemporary and the classic, between uk garage, broken hip-hop, and the vibe of reggae, house and soul, wrapped in velvety production and a technical style all of his own. title track >groove content< has been a mainstay on ross weekly ministry of sound show for six months, and its now in the hands of gilles peterson who has already hailed it as a classic, supporting it on his bbc radio 1 show and tearing it up on the main stage at this years sonar festival.
mzo bullets track >casablanca< has become a sought after underground classic over the last 18 months, so when it landed here as part of our township funk compilation album we thought we would do it justice and give it a full vinyl release. as our friends hot city were jumping around to it when they heard it, we decided to let them loose on the remix. already picking up plays from benji b over at radio 1 plus dj support from the likes of diplo, kissy sellout, doorly and andy george.
nice price deal !!! brooklyns these are powers are at the frontier of noise rock, and yet call back to the earliest days of industrial before its metal infusion. the trios lyrics and jerky beats let go of every musical inhibition ever invented, creating an atmosphere thats slightly sexual and always uncomfortable.
dj support from: hudson mohawke, spencer (numbers), mary anne hobbs, hxdb, dj ma1 (rinse fm), sbtrkt, subeena, sines, hackman, seiji, xxxy, greenmoney, spatial, deadboy, graphics, ben ufo and more widespread radio support (germany. italy, australia / nz, poland, france...)
as a debut 12inch release for both dj marfox and principe, >eu sei quem sou< (i know who i am) is the best title we could hope for our collective present & future intentions. it is what marfox has always made clear to us through his work - a unique vision of technological, artistic and civic advancement. everything is about having your code, knowing where you come from, about the way in which he s chosen to progress through his music.
so we went predominanlty stateside for our last outing, and decided to bring things back home this time. hoya003 is a strictly uk affair. opening up on the a-side is one of rudest producers and djs the uk has going for it. this aint a comment on her manners though, they are as impeccable as her production. after ikonika sent us a zip of some hoya potentials, we just knew >fleas< had to be the one featured on this 12 inch. a more sinister, rolling, emotional jam, it still packs as much as punch as ikonikas dj sets. kicking off the b-side is the homie om unit. now, this guy … this guy. are there any superlatives left to desribe his sonic masterpieces that have rocked too many dancefloors and had as many producers scratching their heads and re-assessing their mix-downs? an instant favourite, >fibonnaci 10< was one of the earliest cuts lined up for a release and when you listen you will see why. this guy. seriously. bringing things to a close, we hand over to one of our favourites from the flourishing cardiff scene. why doesnt monky have more music out? is one of those questions that has been asked too many times for our liking. so much so, we may have to take it upon ourselves to change that. but, for now, just enjoy >hipster<. a killer synth-laden nod to early ukg, but looking forward as opposed to sideways. enjoy.
following up his massive >theme< on numbers comes the second outing from slackk, backed by the debut release from hervey jenkins.
slackks >synthetic< on the a side is a bumpy house track boasting a strong sub bass and shuffling hi-hats. meanwhile hervey jenkins brings classic uk garage sounds with >steelo< on the b side, with swinging 2-step drums and soulful vocals, this verson is exclusive to the vinyl release. this release has been receiving support from brackles, jackmaster, blackdown, blawan, dubbel dutch & hackman.
