anton pieete is known for his classic, textured take on house & techno. the dutchman has spent recent years exploring the reaches of his analogue set up, releasing a string of hugely popular eps for joris voorns rejected imprint. now he turns over his latest wares to ovum, with another impressive offering in the shape of themenu. while it may be our starter, first dish peven is definitely more of a main course. heady and intoxicating with itspercussive, funky drums and undulating keys, its carries us on its woozy wave of rich analogue bass. our appetite is further satisfied by the deeper sophisticated tones of lite green. its malleable, swinging groove is governed by its pulsating bassline and dense kick-drum as lazer synths sweep and claps fire on thisclassy cosmic jam. bn300s dramatic and ghostly strings are at odds with its frenetic bouncing bass melody and yet together theywork in complete harmony to create our final musical indulgence from the menu.
from his days organising free parties in and around northwest france during the early 2000s, oniris has risen the classical way: years of djing have given him an innate understanding of dancefloor dynamics and a firm crew and label to create with: astropolis. since breaking through in 2011, his tracks have rapidly picked up support from all the right corners: agoria, laurent garnier, john digweed, marc romboy and josh wink have all lent their support. having already released some of his finest work on bedrock and systematic, its now ovum’s turn to play host to oniris’ latestwork, the nightwalk ep. eschewing his penchant for the peak time, oniris steers away from the euphoric’s of previous outings and, whilst retaining his melodic moves, creates a selection of deep, warm and groovy cuts with a spiky electric edge. head-nodders, shoulder-droppers & hip-swingers rejoice, these slinky dancefloor numbers are for you. support coming from: pete tong, hernan cattaneo, guy j, lane 8, matthias mayer, christian smith, till von sein, luca bacchetti, marc romboy and more!

ambivalent & michael l penman debut on ovum with *shimmer*. having found a very fruitful collaborative friendship, michael l penman and ambivalent (aka kevin mchugh) have begun exploring the intersection of their approaches to music-making. they originally connected when kevin discovered michaels music in 2010. after playing many of his productions in his dj sets and including them in a mix-cd (_ground) release for minus, kevin made contact and the pair began exchanging files and swapping ideas. this led to time in the studio together and yet more file exchanges. quickly a natural creative balance emerged as they found that their production techniques were complementary as is their shared love of groove, bass and musicality. for their ovum debut the duo have delivered a trio of tracks that have those three elements at their core. title track shimmer brings together raw jackin funk with a warm driving bassline and scything techy stabs whilst chevalier matches its fun bouncy groove with an infectious and spritely melody. final track memogram comes heavy with the oldskool, delivering a bed of beats and samples beneath the very heaviest of acid-kicks. not for the feint of heart!

first he had us in denial. then he made us an offer we couldnt resist. now hes fixing our focus on the most crucial player in this whole house caper: the selecta. come again? selecta is yet another crystalline acid body workout from the ovum boss whos been dishing out single sinewy shell-outs in a seriously rich vein of form of late. galvanised by heavily swung drums, loaded and coded with a venom-like funk and characterised by a big soundsystem vocal that tears out of nowhere and disappears just as quickly, its yet another unique piece of 303 witchcraft, the likes of which only wink can conjure. deeply groovy, unabashed darkness and just a nuance of mischief with the vocal, its yet another precision piece from mr wink whos also kindly provided an instrumental for your added creative pleasure. selectors, this ones for you. you know what to do…

2017 repress -- commencing ovums 20th birthday celebrations, josh wink digs into the vaults for a very special piece of the labels history, presenting three perfect reinterpretations of winks hyperkinetic acid techno classic are you there.
wink returns to the ovum motherland after a year of big hitters on intec, boysnoize and r&s. and he’s packing some serious substance. the clue is in the title, the message is in the hypnotic signature vocal loop, the attitude is in the spiked-out sinewy tendrils of acid, sharped in the way only josh knows how: ‘resist’ is the sound a man who, like all of us, is confounded and frustrated with the current political and media climate. tension, fear and adrenalin ripple throughout as we dynamically ride the tangible, visceral highs and lows in a quintessential classic wink way. remix-wise truncate forges through the blurred truths, manipulation and divisiveness with two clear dancefloor tactics: a thundering, roughly-hewn late night techno roll-out and a deeper, leaner approach for slightly earlier hours with a rising siren that acts as a call to arms for like minds to unify. truncate isn’t alone with the multiple versions: in echoes of some of his most influential tracks ‘superfreak’ and ‘don’t laugh’, josh has also provided two stripped-back acapella-style tracks to ensure the critical message is entwined beyond the track itself. and that message is clear: exist to resist. you know what to do. - josh wink is on a roll following last recent big tracks on boys noize, cocoon, soma, and of course ovum. - dj support from chris liebing, scuba, len faki, slam, jamie jones, john digweed, and more. radio support from eats everything (radio 1), b traits (radio 1), coco cole (capital 1xtra).

ovum welcomes leftbank records co-boss dudley strangeways: a uk house and techno dj rooted with serious residency stripes at the legendary back to the future parties and appearances at the likes of boiler room. hot off the back of releases on stardub, little helpers and made of concrete comes his ovum debut, three tracks made constructed for one sole purpose… melting minds in the darkest of rooms. keep it clean is twistedly simple, a rump-busting roll in the drum department and paranormal pad leave space for a precision tuned tone that warps with the gravitas of a life support machine. sinewy, cold and deliciously disconcerting, dudley ensures funk and focus with delicately placed rhythmic elements and constant fluctuations. next we find ourselves breaking into an early 90s warehouse as transition whisks us on an acid trip with flurries of jack and a lean lead line that slithers through the ever-mutating drums and occasional fx hailstorms. devilishly futuristic and tailored for those deep long blends, the stripped back extensive nature of this guarantees mixing bliss. truly, tracks built by a dj, for djs. don t let this one slip…

loco dice from ibizas circo loco party crew stepping up on the productiontip with this hot two-tracker on the always dope ovum imprint. two thickcuts of minimal funk right here, with the deep keys, warm atmospherics and clicky drums of meninia brasileriaworking perfectly as a late-night uplifter. flipside makes the josh wink connection with an ace hypnotic bassline and percussion leading the way for a killer minimal tech-house ride - a must-have for the steve bug and villalobos fans. wicked return to form from ovum
