philippe quenum returns to cadenza music with ‘solitaire’, some thirteen years after helping kick start the swiss label with the 2003 release ‘orange mistake’/ funky dandy’. this groundbreaking single, co-produced with luciano, has since become a landmark release, not just for the label, but also as the benchmark for the micro-house and minimal tech-house genre that developed over the decade. with a music career than spans back to the mid-80s (dancing in nyc as part of the breakdance troupe, the magnificent force), quenum found his forte with house music, both as a dj, and as a producer and label owner. setting up the access 58 label in 1998 as a platform for his music and collaborations, quenum has consistently released over the years for labels like crosstown rebels, soma, alphahouse, thema and trapez ltd. ‘solitaire’ finds quenum on fine form, on the lead track, dubby fx and bass shaking shots roll out over an urgent disco beat, muted brass and technoid stabs fire from all directions as the tension building pads flourish. shadowy forces are at play on ‘mystic’, discordant sounds echo and bellow over reverberating percussion and a dense back beat that fire into life with shuffling hi-hats. wrapping up this welcome return to the label is ‘mystery’, whipping snares and industrial clangs rumble over the urgent drums for more hypnotizing dancefloor work from philippe!

welcome back mr. quenum! its been roughly two years now since the geneve-based artist, dj and producer released made his upon.you debut with his single rhyme in summer 2013 and were extremely thrilled to see his forthcoming three track 12? trouble causing serious dancefloor trouble again this fall.

our mission is to move people and our satisfaction comes from enjoying ourselves through music. without music we would not be here is the mission statement of brand new barcelona-based record label yakazi records. through the label, they intend to draw from the expressive universe that flows through various melodic and rhythmic scenarios, in which good taste prevails over fads and trends.

after quenums debut album, the richly textured and atmospheric masterpiece * face to face*, serialism prepares to release a striking remix package featuring three distinct voices in electronic music. * basic solution*s raw fluid energy is encased in a pulsing, staccato framework by cesare vs disorder as the meandering bassline emerges and gives way to the original distorting synth line. 5am is first given a more pumping dancefloor sheen by tiefschwarz and next a typically epic and mindbending journey from mathew jonson. lastly frank haag delivers a spooky rework of * ritual* that tightens the groove into a rolling hypnotic head trip that will also move the floor.

nice price deal !!! quenum is an extraordinary individual. a professional breakdancer that was raised in africa, he found love in london in the 80s through mastering the art of djing to early electronic music and broke into the spotlight as acess58 in the 90s before forming the cadenza label with luciano in 2003.
his debut album *face to face* is deliriously deep and melancholic, rhythmically complex and gives a fragile new voice to techno. across the eleven original tracks, phillippe quenum exudes a graceful temperance creating tracks that flutter and take flight (indulge in synth voices of *children of the sun*) as well as rattle the bass bins (sample the raw energy of *basic solution* and delicate power of *ritual*). both sparse and insightful (*my people*) as well as intricate and anthemic (*never loose my soul*), quenums delivery is always quirky and slightly surprising and *face to face* is a curious analysis into this honest musical soul.

the swiss techno veteran quenum sweetens our catalogue number 073. we are trying not to go like a bull at the gate with its cock ring on but yes… this one is about sex. the title track on a1 *zone erogene* is a soft voice that salaciously whispers into your ear, while *pornflake* on b1 will set your hormone bells to ringing. the artist, who has made a name for himself through numerous outstanding releases in the past, is not the only remarkable element of this record. upon you is introducing a new concept: vinyl only tracks- meaning that the a2 track of our release *intimate immensity* will only be available on vinyl.

old friends quenum and lad are joining their forces for the 3rd time to make a beautiful trippy track called ithaca in reference to the greek poem of cavafy. this long melodic exposure is completely suitable for dance floors with strong and powerful bass groove mixed with subtle harmonies and melodic sequences. the track gives us this idea of a voyage full of adventure and full of discovery. and as the moral of the history says what is important in life is not the destination but the path. it is also true in music. think about it.

mooch recordings kicks off with the imperial street ep from quenum, the man behind cadenza and a back catalogue of hits across labels crosstown rebels, orac, soma, trapez, to name but a few. his his legendary set back in july cemented his place in the mooch hall of fame and also put him on the radar for the first ever release on the label. quenums hypnotic, groovers on this ep are just right in building up the night, riding through peak time and out the other end down at the afterparty. on remix duties we have invited tim xavier to weave his tech magic and add his signature harder, darker sound to this killer ep.

welcome to west africa and the port city of ouidah, home of the quenum clan. this track is classic quenum, clear-headed techno influenced by african rhythm, hypnotic percussions and inimitable touches that add warmth to the sober mix. this one is for the head, but without letting go of the hips.

azimute, das sind cesare marchese und der einigen techno-insidern nicht unbekannte schweizer philippe quenum. was die beiden zusammen fabrizieren lässt uns tatsächlich sprachlos zurück: obwohl sie gerade mal auf sieben releases zurückblicken, haben die zwei es doch tatsächlich geschafft in kürzester zeit auf labels wie crosstown rebels oder sogar transmat zu landen… und jetzt auch noch den weg auf cocoon recordings gefunden! ihr titel „the secret“ gibt ein wenig vor, was wir gerade beschrieben haben, denn momentan kann man azimute noch wirklich als geheimtipp bezeichnen. ihr cocoon release dürfte einer unserer releases mit dem höchsten soul-faktor sein. betörende vocals, klackernde percussion-sounds aus den untiefen des techno-klanguniversums und im zusätzlichen house-mix noch mal alles mit warmen und hypnotischen filter chords dekoriert servieren uns azimute eine produktion mit unglaublich viel tiefgang. azimute erwischt uns hier voll auf dem richtigen fuß, die beiden originalversionen werden uns noch lange über die kommenden wochen begleiten. als bonus gibt es noch einen cristi cons remix obendrauf. in bester villalobos oder cadenza spielart entfaltet dieser über sage und schreibe 11 minuten und 34 sekunden seinen minimalvibe und öffnet damit noch mal eine weitere faszinierende musikalische tür. drei versionen, die alles aber nicht gewöhnlich sind und die hier seit tagen in heavy rotation laufen! mile grazie azimute!
