scott monteith aka deadbeat is back on echocord with an absolutely killer ep. after his split ep with fenin on echocord colour this year, and his earlier ep with pole (d.p.) he is now back on echocord with his vampire ep. deadbeat is one scott monteith, a long time montrealer and recent berlin ex pat who has been releasing his own special blend of dub laden, minimal electronics since 2000, for labels such as cynosure, musique risquée, scape and spectral to name but a few. this continues in the same vain. dub is the key here and it is used with such class and insight. the flip sees a more twisted track that shows a slightly more edgy side.

ideen zwischen bollywood und beethoven: zweites album der us-indie-rocker.einige bands bleiben immer bei ihrem alten strickmuster, andere ver?ndern sich von album zu album radikal. vampire weekend haben bei ihrem zweiten album weder das eine noch das andere getan. oder vielleicht beides: >wir klingen mehr wie vampire weekend als auf der ersten platte< meint denn auch schlagzeuger christopher tomson. dabei sprudelt >contra< ?ber an frischen ideen, es pr?sentiert sich dem h«rer kurz und straff durchkomponiert (zehn titel in 39 minuten), die songs setzen sich fast unmerklich mit so schwierigen themen wie verlust, angst und dem tod auseinander. ein gewagtes, ein gelungenes unterfangen. die aufnahmen begannen im januar 2009 in new york, nur zwei wochen nachdem die jungs von ihrer 18-monatigen welttournee zur?ckkamen.

the model doesnt just have his own sound, he has in fact attempted to engineer his own genre: dark-techno-baroque. the sound has been crafted through a penchant for aristocratic mannerisms and a passion for high fashion and low fetish. it also happens to pretty succinctly sum up part of his unique personality. set against a backdrop of refined charm, there s an underbelly of something dark and brutal, which is possibly the best way to describe the a-side >in the night<. in many ways this could be seen as a return to form for gigolo, immediately poppy but structured as a classic song with haunting vocals underpinned with a driving techno rhythm. to further consolidate the techno aesthetic look no further then >flex on the b-side and you have a pounding track that could have been played by daft punk in 96 and will probably find a home with a diverse selection of djs today.
the >vampire funk ep< is the first release from the models forthcoming album on gigolo. the concept is in the same vain, but delves deeper into the dark-side of the model. exploring his fetish with the night and creatures that occupy its opulent corridors. like classic transylvanian tales the music from this album will present details that set the mood and composition to create tracks with narrative regardless of lyrics or words. the result being music that moves both bodies and minds and stirs the blood. as pretentious as this sounds the author of this mindless scrap of paper has the fortunate privilege of speaking from experience. as the mind that moves the hands that moves the keyboard is the mind that is being moved by the music as i type and you read. so we are already part way there. the rest will unfold in the coming months.
