carl gari produced and mixed the record, providing a melancholic backbone for abdullah’s lyrics and melodies.

nathan micay (formerly bwana) steps out under his own name for the first time with a pair of glistening panoramas well-primed for those exultant hours of the early morning. the 12inch opens with first casualty, aka that track played by avalon in her printworks set last year, before heading into deeper territories with beginning ballads on the flip. in nathans words: these are without a doubt the most personal tracks i have written to date. i made them as a sort of exercise in self-therapy during my first few months in berlin. as time has gone on, more meanings have unfolded with each listen. for me, these tracks are a rebuttal to the endless churn of negativity in the news and online. they have become my battle cry in the club, something to mobilize while also offering a chance to escape it all, even briefly.

smx are max o brien and sam purcell (blank mind). sleep is an intoxicating live jam recorded in october 2015 during a period of emotional upheaval, exploring themes of discordance and euphoria. on thief, koehler says: take what you need and take it anyway you can. if you get it, you deserve it, because it means you earned it. but just remember one thing: whatever you take can be taken from you too, so think long, act fast and do so with honour and pride or all will become chaos. designed by alex mccullough. mastered by beau thomas.

blue 01 comes in the form of a split 12inch release from tessela and lanark artefax. it features tesselas glisten, a track weve loved and coveted since joy o slipped into his essential mix in 2016. alongside that is the intimidating stillness mix of lanarks touch absence, which we first released as a limited edition whities dubplate back in 2016. it has been remastered by beau thomas at ten eight seven and the artwork as always was designed by alex mccullough

whities come with this a tasty one from san francisco born / berlin based avalon emerson. 3 tracks on a theme. tip! first record of the year on whities which comes from rising star avalon emerson. the release features two distinctive lead tracks with emotional synths underpinned by sturdy rolling basslines, alongside an ambient synthapella. it comes in a beautiful handmade sleeve designed by peckhams studio c&c collective.

human potential movement is the second release from chaotic reality since his first self-released 12inch chreal01 which received support from samuel valenti (ghostly), project pablo, eclair fifi, coby sey (whities) and telfort. in this follow up ep, chaotic reality takes the genre trance literally, exploring deeper meditative themes on a canvas of 4/4 dub techno. influences like shinichi atobe, ciel, newworldaquarium, sensual physics and fluxion creep into a hypnotic three-track ep.

for its 6th release on ed banger records busy p asked his longtime friend from los angeles mayer hawthorne to write a love song. while the world is going crazy, the only answer is love. the song was recorded between threesome studio in paris and mayer’s own in l.a. to complete this ep, we’ve asked uk’s finest producers. the mysterious kda who’s topping uk’s charts, delivers an infectious remix with mental drums and funky twist. hot chip’s main man joe goddard has been one of my favorite producer ever. it was about time to have him on board! reckonwrong dropped the hottest ep of 2015 on young turks sublabel whities. his remix is pure magic. exotic beats with techno flavours. last but not least, we went experimental on this one! this is the first flow machines remix. the goal of flow machines is to research and develop artificial intelligence systems able to generate music autonomously or in collaboration with human artists.

discographies in dance music don’t come much more impressive than that belonging to paul woolford, the man behind seminal releases for the likes of planet e, xl recordings and running back. special request is the project that sees him continuing to defy expectation with a new ep on the fabric-run label houndstooth. stairfoot lane bunker encapsulates this approach with 5 bold new excursions into the outer limits followed by a remix from minor science (known for his previous releases on whities and the trilogy tapes) the eagle-eyed will notice 5 of these tracks appear on fabriclive 91. this ep is issued as an addendum. redrum is the fierce opener. rampantly-edited electro beats, a sampled speak-n-spell vocal, and a pure sci-fi breakdown sets the scene for the rest. stairfoot lane bunker and replicant are jungle tracks taken to dizzying extremes - the former building from widescreen atmospherics, thunder spells and lightning before descending into a frenzy of breakbeats and long heavy bass notes. replicant ratchets the pressure up further with hyper-edits across it s breakbeat introduction and throughout, punctuated by furnace-rattling subs. telepathic dog and five lane ends are highly evocative ambient pieces, pushing into the uncanny realms of metaphysical music. to end the release minor science comes through with his remix of stairfoot lane bunker, effortlessly blending in his own work with the disjointed sr breakbeats, flashing only snippets of the serrated bars, chopping them up and creating a new track in the process.
