ghosts inside stands as ekin fil�s most arresting recordings to date, written during a period of personal despair with an oblique poetry of sadness cascading through the songs. it�s an introspective sound, completely turned in on itself and tuning out the socio-political tumult of her native home in istanbul. in confronting psychic distress, heartache and depression, ekin fil blocks out the rest of the world to concentrate on the immediate issues of human relationships and their many complications. allusions to catharsis flicker through the sullen, narcotized beauty of ghosts inside, updating the mood found on those classic 4ad albums of the 80s (i.e. garlands, it�ll end in tears, lonely is an eyesore, etc.) orbiting the spheres of grouper, lovesliescrushing and stars of the lid.

after a small hiatus matthias vogt and c-rock finally got back together in the studio to present another motorcitysoul masterpiece and convincing follow-up to last years carry on single. the song features conspicuous vocals by the drumming singer-songwriter phil fill making it an eager and exhilarating confession to the playground love. the remixes of lithuanian standout producer mario basanov contribute pure dancefloor magic. while the vocal remake offers a sentimental 80s disco feast, the remix version is riding his distinctive vilnius deep house vibe. a promising foretaste to basanovs upcopming full length album journey.

the sccucci manucci label has done a fine job of handpicking artists on the rise for their releases to date, collaring the likes of casino times, francis inferno orchestra and toomydisco as well as the odd established name like jacques renault. the labels fourth release forza quattro is still grounded in the disco/house sensibility that has served them so well, though the presence of waze & oddysey demonstrates the sccucci a & r team are willing to deviate. the elusive us pair are in the midst of a hot patch right now with releases already burning on body work and southern fried and plenty more due over the coming months, so their presence here is a real coup. i cant hear you sounds vaguely like a extra bouncy cover of the classic rip groove and definitely ranks alongside their output to date. alongside this the white vinyl ep has tempo traversing contributions from fil lavin, sellouts and deadly sins, with the latters slow and chuggy -dont you know- a particular highlight

massive two tracker from jonny miller on his 2nd edits release on kat.what you did is quite simply a whopper! disco music as god intended it - arms aloft, eyes shut, inhibitions nowhere to be seen, smiles bigger than life itself. what we have here is not an edit as such but a reworking of chaka khans what you did, subtly housed up, re-arranged, chopped, fil-tered and re-mastered within an inch of its life - chaka herself pretty much always sounds in-credible but here the vocal just seems to stand even taller than usual. on the other side we have something in which some of our slightly older party folk may well recognise. dionnes house classic from 88 gets the full edit treatment and the timing on this just seems so right. originally released on the ace bigshot label out of canada (and was just huge in the hacienda), re-mastered, stretched out, re-arranged and making the most out of all those old school stabs, ploddy bass lines and timeless vocals.
