green village is a label operating out of jersey city that deals in all manner of sounds from rugged house to scuffed up techno, but with a distinct bent towards broken rhythms and plenty of bass. this various artists 12- plies a diverse trade, with all tracks bound together by their ruffness. theft & toyc bring some loud and lurid bass synths to their snaking slice of oddball club music -atlantic-, while bd1982 places focus on dense layers of choppy drums and needlepoint acid arpeggios. eighth ruin delivers a truly head turning beat with the appropriately named -whip-, and then etch pays tribute to a classic movie with the excellent breakbeat science of -predator-.

roll the dice are back with a new full length album, ‘born to ruin’. the swedish duo, which consists of malcolm pardon and peder mannerfelt, are established musicians in their own right. pardon’s background producing scores for film and television is reflected in roll the dice’s cinematic aesthetic. while mannerfelt’s acclaimed third solo album ‘controlling body’ landed in 2016, he counts the likes of fever ray among his producer credits.

since its inception, shifted s avian imprint has gone from being a murderous, straight-laced techno imprint to what has now become a source for some of the best and most multi-faceted industrial music from the european quarters. we re not sure of verge s true identity, it could either be one of the label s existing artists, the mysterious shifted himself, or even an artist like blawan riding incognito (don t quote us on that, though!) solitary and crest-fallen, this magnetic collection of tunes feed off one another with utter ease and simplicity. they re not merely a selection of sound experiments but rather a unitary cloud of sonics which leave the listener with a powerful mental image. the feeling of dusk, the water dropping off the leaves, the cold breeze of autumn. this is a blinding foray into the darkest corners of contemporary industrial experimentation.

returning from the italian excursion of vol. 13 before the u.k. pulls up the proverbial drawbridge, neil diablo delivers another to rack & ruin winner live and direct from the northern powerhouse. showing some love for the finer half of the county, neil presents the best the north east has to offer, enlisting our friends from the north yorkshire s craig bratley and newcastle s james hadfield to do the damage on this slick split 12inch.

for the 8th instalment of to rack & ruin we see the long awaited return of neil diablo this time dropping the evil k neil moniker from used for the first 2 volumes of the edits series. first up on foreva neil skilfully chops up a little known raw 122bpm proto-house disco jam which has sumptuous boogie bassline, choppy stabs and a wonderful soulful female vocal extended and edited for dance floor delight. on the flip is love ma gin. a glittery disco affair with a heavy bassline and glamorous strings which builds and builds. early dj support come from crazy p, pete herbert and emperor machine.

to rack & ruin comes thundering your way slap bang in time for summer courtesy of our italian disco brother in arms dj rocca and his compardre n2b. the usual high standard of sounds are as present as ever on the 6th instalment of our edits and reworks imprint. get up hits you with a rolling bassline that brims with plenty of pant flapping groove & wah wah guitar licks before that ever so familiar vocal kicks in for a full on reggae disco workout. weird safari certainly lives up to its name - a stripped back, dark & almost techno sound, alongside tinkering percussion and spaced out wild animal noises surely make for a weird safari. dubby pino has you from the off, all the foot stamping & money shaking elements are present - hooky guitar, fat bass loop, infectious percussion, soulful vocal licks and a gorgeous little piano break. mr rossi’s backpain starts off by getting the award for the best song title we’ve ever had on rack & ruin, but as well as that it’s in the proper groovy dance floor tackle category with a bassline & guitar that commands your respect and then when the 4/4 kicks in at 1 min, well just have a listen.
