after years of preparation, listening to and playing records that would ultimately influence his own productions, modex delivers his first solo ep. a four tracker full of inspiration ranging from old school breaks to trance and ultimately house and techno. created for the dance floor yet still full of melodies and emotion, the ep intends to reach various communities.

jon allen, acclaimed singer-songwriter from london, england is set to release his highly anticipated new album, “blue flame”. with a voice that is equal parts rod stewart, van morrison and sam cooke, jon allen has an uncanny ability to write songs that feel instantly familiar.

after kicking off in some style, max d. blas and alex piccini s monologue label follows up with a second sizzling release, this time from yaya & lorenzo chiabotti. the first monologue release received great feedback from the likes of villalobos, raresh and matthew dear amongst others, and yaya and chibotti, fire out three original cuts here, that also come with a remix from robert dietz that ensures this is another massive package.

monologue is a brand new label founded by the altavoz creator max d. blas and the producer and kosmophono label owner alex piccini, that comes out of the blocks firing on all cylinders thanks to an essential ep from ryan crosson.

monologue plays out like a novel, where the abernathy’s expand the perception of family over ab’s expansion of the stripped down soul/r&b music we’re used to hearing. whether he’s playing piano, wurlitzer, synths, guitar, programming drums, live drums, or arranging strings and horn lines, ab’s mastery of musicianship is on full display through monologue’s array of colorful, complex compositions, coupled with his rich, layered vocals.

slow town records has really picked up the pace this year, delivering essential 12- singles from riccio and qx-i, amongst others. here, they round of 2014 with an ep of positively edible deep house from fouk man hans peeman. in typical peeman fashion, there s plenty of soul to the liquid beats and rich chords of -prologue-, while -monologue- is an attractive saunter through classic detroit deep house with the restless energy of a chicago production. mr k-s remixes the title track, delivering a heavily percussive version that sounds like a plea to head towards the dancefloor, pronto. a touch darker and altogether heavier, it offers an excellent alternative to peeman s eyes-wide-shut original.

there is an endless abundance of variations that the clarinet can use in changing the colour of a single note. ben creates a web of sounds that are hard to pin down but easy to absorb as a whole. a sense and perception of continued growth too illuminated and overwhelming to resist.

rough and ready machine tracks from brazilian producer/december collaborator innsyter (la club resource). cyn002 picks up where coletivo vandalismo left off, channeling that same wild, diy bedroom studio spirit across nine individual recordings. opening with sprawling synth motifs fighting against a steady rhythm track, desintegrado sounds like an industrial dub punk trying to channel early cluster or moebius and strangely succeeding. the rest of the lp treats us to vaguely drexciyan, subaquatic electro (bries) and twisted lo-fi minimalism with bonus eerie monologue samples (superficial love). the one recurring theme on magnetic healing is innsyter s clear love for mournful, post-punk inspired melodies. it comes across loud and clear on almost every track yet never sounds tired. things eventually draw to a close with the hopelessly romantic new wave instrumental forest shaman - a short ballad for all those weary-eyed party-goers who stuck around til the sun came up!

its a captivating encounter when a producer of relative anonymity bursts onto the scene with an exciting and engaging release, that you re drawn back to again and again, wondering how you ve never heard of them before. porto producer pedro, & washington dc vocalist jenna camille have achieved exactly that with this first release on the mighty wolf music recordings. the influences from jazz though to soul, rnb & broken beat are weaved deep within this record. you re drawn in from the off with an intro of stripped back pianos behind an emotional spoken word monologue from jenna, before it opens up into a beatsy, rnb infused groove. having pulled you in float hits you with a richness of synth textures, layers of broken beats and dreamy chords alongside jennas float mantra hypnotising you deeper and deeper. reaching the last section of the track though you re woken from that hypnotic groove with a switch to a raw and energetic breakbeat sure to get any crowd moving. keep it h 2000 , the final track on the a side, has a real flavour of fatima to it emanating from jenna s blissful vocals - laid over the top of sustained rhodes, weighty synth lines and dynamic drums. flip it over and there s a tougher intensity to future dance (it ll be ok) , coupling rhythmic stabs with jazzy chord progressions, laced behind a groove that wouldn t be out of place lighting up the floor at a co-op night. to close out the e.p. you re given a sensory overload through jenna s staggered, overlaid vocals panned to come at you from every angle its the perfect outro to both stun you and leave you wanting more. and if this extremely well-polished, first key release is a sign of things to come, pedros name will be becoming a lot more familiar in years to come. support from afronaught (bugz in the attic), bradley zero, henry wu, lefto, atjazz & osunlade
