earthboogie’s debut album, human call, rightly earned praise on its release earlier in the year, with listeners responding positively to its sticky and humid dancefloor fusions of african and south american rhythms, chunky dub disco, retro-futurist house, spacey analogue electronics and sun-kissed balearica. hot on the heels of that release, leng records has sourced new remixes of two album highlights – “high minded man” and “silken moon” – from running back label boss gerd janson and synthesizer-wielding balearic boogie stalwart pete herbert.

two of russian electronic music’s rising stars, phil gerus and alexander lay-far, invite you to join them at the solitary high social club. while table service is provided, they’d much rather you throw caution to the wind and head to the dancefloor.
before joining forces in the studio, both moscow-based musicians have delivered a string of memorable solo productions. lay-far has previously released a wealth of material on such labels as local talk, city fly, lazy days and 4lux black, while synthesizer fetishist gerus has showcased his electrofunk and disco-fired cuts on futureboogie recordings, sonar kollektiv, public release and superior elevation records.
the five tracks that make up solitary high social club deliver a perfect marriage of the two producers’ distinctive solo styles, combining the rich musicality of lay-far’s house productions with the spacey, intergalactic electronics of gerus’s discoid adventures. in many ways, it’s a marriage made in heaven – or in lay-far’s celebrated in-beat-ween studio, at least.

the mushrooms project are well known for their sleazy mid-tempo laid-back percussive style, a sound that immediately resonated with rising stars and newly signed label mates earthboogie. specifically it was ‘dubby bolas’ from the italian duo’s 2016 album ‘rivea corymbosa’ album that really excited earthboogie and equally, the mushrooms were fans of the afro disco sound the londoners displayed on their debut track ‘route ten to interzone’. the mutual appreciation led to this remix project and now, released exclusively for record store day 2018, their complementary productions styles collide with great effect.

it was may 2017 when earthboogie’s debut release dropped on leng. the soundsystem-loving east london duo rightly won praise for a fine ep that brilliantly joined the dots between all things intergalactic, terrestrial and tribal. having spent the last ten months recording their adventures, izaak gray and nicola robinson return with “silken moon”, the first single from their forthcoming debut album, human call.

having become one of the uk’s most exciting acts over the past few years releasing their bass-heavy brand of garage and grime across labels like black butter and mta, my nu leng go back to their roots as they deliver their very first drum & bass ep. and as you’d expect from a duo who’ve been drawn in to remix the likes of naughty boy, rudimental and clean bandit, it’s big and it’s very, very clever.

few artists can claim to have their own distinctive “musical voice”: a style of composition and production that listeners instantly recognize. for starters, it takes years of experimentation to perfect, and most people simply don’t have the patience, talent or skills to pull it off.
ali kuru is one of those rare producers whose music sounds like nothing else around. the istanbul-based artist has spent the best part of a decade honing his trademark style – a fragrant and intoxicating aural brew that combines a myriad of influences with atmospheric field recordings and snaking, mind-altering middle eastern instrumentation – via releases for the likes of luxa flex, kalisah, sound architecture and, most recently, leng.
it’s to the latter label that the publicity-shy producer returns with his most ambitious release to date, egzotik. 15 tracks and 70 minutes deep, it’s not so much a debut album as a statement of intent. from start to finish, it feels like a humid, sweat-soaked saunter through the winding streets of istanbul in the company of a musician who draws more inspiration than most from his immediate surroundings.

turkish mystery man ali kuru is fast becoming one of leng s go-to artists. since joining the label in early 2016, he s released two superb eps, with a debut album of evocative musical blends – think dub, disco, downtempo grooves, humid exotica, and authentic middle eastern instrumentation – due to drop later this spring.

over the years, phil mison has become the go-to selector for those looking for ibiza-themed compilations. none of his previous collections, though, have been quite as personal as out of the blue, a compilation inspired by his first spell behind the decks at the café del mar in 1993 – and the remarkable chain of events leading up to it.

fellow earthlings, cast your gaze skywards. if you’re quick, you might see earthboogie’s intergalactic cruise ship coming in to land.
while they’ve been djing around london and beyond with their custom built quod sound system for some time, the mr mystery ep marks their debut appearance on leng records. it’s the first time the fruits of their studio labours, recorded in the space they call the control room, have made it onto vinyl.

if you’re setting out on an epic voyage to the electronic disco universe, it pays to recruit an experienced pilot. when it comes to intergalactic musical fusion, few are quite as experienced as cosmic disco pioneer and noted dancefloor explorer daniele baldelli. produced alongside friend and regular studio partner dario piana, zero gravity cannily updates baldelli’s early ‘80s cosmic disco blueprint for the 21st century. we think that the ep contains some of his strongest music to date, with each of the three cuts offering subtle nods to the italian maestro’s original cosmic club ethos. a-side “infinity machine” expertly combines many of baldelli’s greatest musical inspirations into one mind-bending late night workout. underpinned by a druggy, arpeggio style bassline, the track rises and falls through waves of funk-rock guitars, crunchy clavinet lines and intertwined synthesizer solos. throw in jammed-out electric pianos, and you have a near perfect fusion of cosmic disco and blazed funk-rock. the producer’s long-held love of african rhythms surfaces on “if you drive”, where bold acid bass, ricocheting percussion hits and weightless chords combine beautifully with starry melody lines and vintage analogue synthesizer motifs. it’s afro-cosmic for the nu-disco generation. a fine ep is completed by “air lock”, in which baldelli and piana pepper a rubbery, electrofunk-influenced groove with cascading synthesizer melodies, swirling pads and a swathe of fuzzy, eyes-closed guitar solos. it’s bold and assertive, but also as otherworldly and stratospheric as you’d expect from a pioneer at the peak of his powers.

despite a discography that stretches right back to the late noughties, little is known about turkish producer ali kuru. perhaps he’s publicity shy, or simply wants to let his music do the talking, either way, the music he makes is magical, and undoubtedly worthy of wider acclaim.

take a trawl through mushrooms projects’ ample back catalogue, and you’ll immediately be struck by their constant artistic progression. throughout their career, giorgio giri and marco lentano have refused to stand still, with each successive release offering a subtle signs of musical evolution.
they’re at it again on rivea corymbosa, a sophomore set that’s markedly different – albeit similarly minded – to their 2013 debut album, undergrass.

josh praus has been involved in san francisco’s bay area scene for the last two decades. a prolific collector and player of records, what we tellin’ them marks his first public outing as a producer. as debuts go, it’s pretty darn impressive.
praus has been working hard in the studio over the last three years, creating tracks that draw influence from a wide range of styles and artists. he cites “downtempo, disco, house, italo and techno” as major inspirations, and listeners may hear elements from all of these disparate styles on this assured, confident ep.

there’s much to be said for chance meetings. vitruvians – in their words, “a meeting of minds, cultures, styles and experiences, powered by music, and designed by faith” – owe their very existence to once such random encounter.
in the summer of 2014, producers frankie valentine and thomas “t-ash” sciurpa bumped into each other in a london shoe shop. over a fine selection of brogues and loafers, the conversation drifted onto music. the duo quickly realized they had much in common, and a plan began to form: they would get together and make music as vitruvians, using the alias as a vehicle for their collaborative work.

three years on from the release of the critically acclaimed debut album, undergrass, mushrooms project return to leng with a two-track taster for their forthcoming follow-up full-length.

for their latest slice of saucer-eyed balearic perfection, leng records has looked to the north east of england for inspiration. lizards is a freshly minted project from newcastle-based twosome lee forster – better known as one third of balearic house combo last waltz, whose impressive releases have appeared on world unknown, futureboogie, endless flight and is it balearic? – and long-time friend james hadfield of nein records’ elizabeth collective.

few parents while away time at the school gates discussing analogue synthesizers, dusty drum machines, and obscure old records. then again, few parents are quite as musically decorated as mark evetts and stuart hobbs.

with a passion for disco, italo, chicago house and detroit techno patrizio cavaliere aka rocco universal has been collecting music for the last two decades and it’s these musical influences that have shaped his raw, tripped out disco/house production sound. ‘tiny islands’, his debut release for leng, is a real melting pot of rich melodies over a thick baseline and is a clear example of rocco’s passion for the dancefloor. with something as multi layered and deep as the original track it needed ray mang to add his trademark sound to the remix. here he goes straight for the jugular drawing out some of the loops and percussion leaving no mistake as to when this should be dropped on the dancefloor.

repress !! having wowed critics and crate-diggers alike with 2012s acclaimed magik cyrkles compilation, psychemagik are now ready to unleash the follow-up, magik sunrise. bristling with psychedelic, cosmic and curiously balearic oddities hand-picked from the depths of their vast record collections, magik sunrise is, if anything, even more inspired that its predecessor.
given that magik cyrkles was widely considered to be one of the best compilations of 2012, that is some feat. that collection garnered praise across the board, appearing in the end-of-year charts of rough trade, juno and piccadilly records. as if that wasnt enough, dj magazine also described it as f***ing great! for magik sunrise, the kent-based duo has dug even deeper into the dusty corners of their record vault, deep in the cosmic forest. the result is another inspired, 15-track collection that gleefully skips between all manner of forgotten gems and little-known nuggets, occasionally stopping to acclaim an otherwise unknown track or artist.

after more than a year in the making we are almost ready to release the final chapter in psychemagiks magik series. due to incredible responses from the artists we contacted we ended up with more tracks than we needed for one album so it was decided to release magik sunset in two parts. both albums contain yet more of the long lost and obscure tracks that the previous compilations have presented and part one is now available on double vinyl in gatefold sleeve.

greek duo bonnie & klein aka george & thanasis have been slowly making a name for themselves through a string of well crafted releases on labels music for dreams, timewarp and uber. their style hasnt gone unnoticed by ibizan legend jose padilla who put their recent track *carina* on his latest compilation. bonnie & klein are not only producers of the chillout sound as driving beats slowly building up with african sounding percussion more classic chillout sound and tops off an excellent 12 inch for leng.

*out of town* fuses a wide variety of sounds and styles. the result is a beautiful, otherworldly album that moves effortlessly between blissful flamenco, shimmering, slo-mo nu disco, dubbed-out tango and haunting, ethereal soundscapes. first released back in 2010, *out of town* was the product of phil misons much loved cantoma project that was only available on cd and download at the time. now the classic album gets the vinyl release it deserves with hand numbered gatefold sleeve. limited to 500 copies.

fernandos debut for leng was the universally well received mid-tempo monster *blue impala*. now he is back with yet another hypnotic bass heavy workout. *giant desert* takes the same low slung approach with some heavy guitar work from fiorucci. this is really is chugging music at its best, with flashes of vocal, analog synths and a dirty rock guitar combining to keep that head nodding. the extended dub allows fiorucci more space to hit the groove and the guitar work becomes epic.

with the debut 40 thieves album already on the shelves leng follows up with some high quality remixes from psychemagik and cantoma.
