played by karotte, giles smith (secretsundaze), laurent garnier... already up to its 17th release, yore keeps rolling on, this time with a new release by memory foundation. in 1994 robert hood found his way into a dark basement somewhere in viennas suburbia. mr. hood was impressed by what he had heard, and with him a dat-tape took a long journey back to where techno was invented once. with their first appearance on detroits m-plant label 15 years ago, the memory foundation or one of their many alter egos found its way into the hearts and the record-bags of many serious electronic music lovers. in 1997, after setting up their own record labels central and together with jeremiah grow! and other releases on m-plant, 7th city or usm followed. the memory foundation now returns with their contribution for the yore camp, with their >reptiles in exile ep< they prove that they havent lost their magic touch. the track burns with electro-funk fire, with natural kit and cymbal sounds giving the already-surging cut extra thrust and the staccato burble of metallic chords adding berlin flavour. a lithe eight-note bass motif anchors the warm techno-funk of >bass traveller< as a flaring synth motif squiggles alongside rhodes chords and a boogieing clavinet line, and its easy to become so engrossed by the tunes relaxed swing that the artistry of its arrangement can go underappreciated. textbook body music, >summer visions< is an earthier, mid-tempo funk workout thats sure to get the dance floor crowded, while the light-speed closer >reptiles< blazes a slinky house trail whose fresh swing has got yore written all over it. with any luck, we wont be waiting twelve more years for the next memory foundation release

pavement und preston school of industry gründungsmitglied scott kanneberg aka spiral stairs veröffentlicht ein neues album auf domino records! es sind nun acht jahre vergangen, seit scott kannberg, seines zeichens gründungsmitglied der legendären pavement, sein solo-album the real feel veröffentlichte. in der zwischenzeit ist vieles passiert. von einer gefeierten pavement reunion bis hin zum ausbau seines familienlebens in australien war alles dabei. jetzt meldet sich der gitarrist als spiral stairs mit einem neuen album zurück. “doris & the daggers” wird es heißen und zehn rock songs enthalten. am schlagzeug sitzt justin peroff (broken social scene), am bass hat sich matt harris eingefunden, der schon seit der gemeinsamen band preston school of industry mit kannberg musiziert. als gastsänger sind matt berninger (the national) und kevin drew (broken social scene) mit dabei. scott kannberg über sein zweites album: “i guess i’ve been writing songs for a while now. i like hearing echoes of things i love in the music that i make. writing music doesn’t come easy to me - it’s hard to write a song that’s good. but our memories slowly escape us as we get older, and in songs you kind of relive those moments, the things that matter.”

exile began his musical career in 2000, releasing drum & bass on labels such as beta and moving shadow, but as the years progressed, his sound started to become more complicated and abstract. this was mostly due to his obsession with the reaktor software, which enabled him to spend much of his time creating new and interesting sounds from scratch. his debut full-length, 2006s pro agonist, saw him add elements of breakcore to his constantly mutating yper-breakbeats, but that gradual change in style is nothing compared to the total departure that hes taken on listening tree. long-term fans may be shocked to know that listening tree is peppered with exiles own vocal tracks, as he tackles issues such as britains buy-now-pay-later culture, and even the dynamic nature of the universe on family galaxy, the first single. >family galaxy< is about the constant process of change that underpins everything, explains exile. its a tale from a thingless world where nothing stays the same. as now shines its shifting shades on then, so our ideas of what we have done and will do continually morph.the result is an eccentric electro-pop album that is just as likely to appeal to fans of hot chip as it is otto von schirach
