botanic records presents let love kill: a new ep by experimental malaysian drummer reza othman, otherwise known as rao. fully-formed but deliberately unpolished, the release presents itself as a meditation of found sounds, ambient samples and ultimately enthralling diy sonic landscapes.

the second edition in our compilation series focused on regional producers quietly flourishing between the cracks of an increasingly complex online musical landscape. a shade under 30 minutes, the release features artists from malaysia, singapore, the philippines and indonesia, covering a diverse musical spectrum traversing hazy house, tropical electronica, fringe club and classical piano through to esoteric ambient.

bot003 is a two-track release from similarobjects introducing aquatic new depths and euphoric highs to the hard-working manila-based producer’s prolific resume. a case study in compare and contrast, cascading harps and hypnotic signal tones paint “gersisa” with an ominous momentum, while jazzy keys peek out and ultimately flourish from far below surface-level on “blueprint to atlantis”.

a1- o.xander with paaliaq provides a subtle and analog house track. percussive drums, 4 to the floor kick, slow acid bass-line, shy and hypnotic notes create a perfect club track . a2 - dome zero by sunn boo is a melancholic and hypnotic house track. the subtle but really deep bass-line perfects the track. b1 - maintain illusions by the paris based producer raär, is a journey to the unknown. harsh acid line, bumpy and jerky kicks, brillant hi-hats and hammering snare make you stagger. b2 - engaging proxima-b by the berlin based artist ahi is spatial track. no drums, only pads, textures and fx to make you dive into an oppressive, heavy but beautiful journey.

in a short space of time prodigious dutch producer pascal benjamin has built up a catalogue of ear-snagging minimal house confections for labels like welt, norse projekt, algorhythmic and botanic minds. now hes hitting the big time with this 12inch on the mighty slapfunk, and hes packing just the kind of chunky, swinging but ultimately lean jams they love. out of line keeps things focused on the drums, with just some sub bass and microscopic threads of sonic matter in between. to goodto be who? is equally stripped down, but decidedly more wriggly in its make up, and then finest hour kicks off the b-side with some fatter beats and a more prominent bass line. lagrange point finishes the ep off with some subliminal bleeps and tones pinging in between the wafer thin percussive pulses.

berlin based japanese industrial synth duo group a make their debut on mannequin records with a killer 3-tracks self titled ep. tommi tokyo (synth, drum machine, vocals) and sayaka botanic (violin, tapes and sampler) released 2 studio albums and 1 live album in tokyo, before to move in berlin in 2016. with their mixture of dark minimal synth, avant-noise, striking visuals and performance art, the duo still carries on the very breath of early industrial pioneers such as throbbing gristle, die form, klinik, cabaret voltaire. the ep was recorded in tommi s bedroom and later mixed together with mannequin records head alessandro adriani in his own studio in berlin. the first two tracks of the ep, t.o.p. and ketabali represents the duo personal reaction against the current economy, an up yours to capitalism, news and politics, all permeated by industrial rhytmic-noises and words with no meaning. the b2 alibi instead was inspired by an autobiography of hi-red centre(japanese avant-grade art group in the 60-70 s) written by one of the members, genpei akasegawa. tommi found the word alibi in the book and she just started singing about the group. as she never wrote lyrics for that, during their live performances they are always improvised, so changing and mutating every time.

the days are longer and lighter already and that can only mean one thing. summer is on its way… lee burridge and lost desert return with sunshine days in mind on their ‘loopyness’ ep. an apt description indeed for the title track. its infectious groove rolls forward, making you want to get up and wiggle your hips, this track has funk. a live guitar lifts the track halfway through, as stuttered vocals and string-like synth lines take you away to other worlds. over on the other side of the vinyl (or track two for digital fans) is ‘botanic’. another summer daze, groovy, light and airy with a slinky fat bassline and a warm breakdown. music to close your eyes and drift away to, this track has been a firm favourite on all day i dream dance floors since last summer. the ep comes to a close with ‘12cc’ featuring junior. a dubbier groove underpins the whole affair while glass-like melodies and laid back synths sway back and forth. it’s a patient groover that rewards those who take the ride.

nax acid returns to phorma with botanic investigations on artemis ever dark grounds. a purple flower on the moon is powerful yet melancholic and will catapult your mind into outer space. on the flip side iori adds a more dubby feel to the track and transforms it into an hypnotically turning lunar probe
