1954 is the fifth vinyl release on the modern cathedrals label by recent detroit export altstadt echo. staying true to the themes of the the “year series” that began with the 1913 ep and was followed by the 1905 ep, the artist continues to explore somber, broken beat techno with an eroded, highly-textured percussive focus. in the previous two eps from this series, altstadt echo was joined by varg, abdulla rashim, stave, and evigt morker on remix duty. for the 1954 ep, he’s commissioned uk artist szare, who delivers a highly danceable revision that combines the ghostly vocals of the original with highly frenetic percussive injections. the artwork of the ep is aligned with the label’s greyscale documentation of detroit, this time featuring the stunning architecture of the new center district of the city. the photos were taken by the artist prior to his move to berlin in fall 2017.

re-issued again, with new liner notes. a wonderful, rare record wrapped in a mysterious yet playful ambiance. or maybe it s just the impression that the japanese language often gives me. suiren is an odd jazz-fusion-wave tune that sounds like its boiling, waiting to burst but somehow manages to stay in control. like the nervous tick of a leg fidgeting under the table of a restaurant on a first date. yasuaki shimizu is a japanese composer, producer and saxophone player born in 1954. he worked with ryuchi sakimoto on certain arrangements, with the south korean artist nam june paik on art+sound installation pieces and even dj towa tei (of deee-lite fame). suiren was released in 1981 and is the opening title on the sought-after kakashi album and is my personal favorite on this overall brilliant record. it weaves behind new wave, jazz, fusion, ambient and experimental music.

juris boiko (1954-2002) and hardijs ledinš (1955-2004) were the core members of the nsrd, which is best known as latvian avant-garde, postmodern, experimental and underground music group active in 1980s.
their activities were widely multidisciplinary and they can not be considered as purely musicians since none of them had a professional musical education. their creativity was manifested through variety of media – music, performance and action art, visual arts, poetry, samizdat, the introduction video art in latvia etc. nsrd also made a significant contribution to the explanation of the theoretical aspects of art in the interpretation of the postmodernist movement, and developed the independent concept of “approximate art”. at the end of the 80s, nsrd got connected and performed with several artists and musicians living in west germany, including indulis bilz&#275,,,,,ns, micky remann and maximilian lenz aka westbam and others.
the vinyl release includes a download code.

the maginificent seven is a remake of the 1960 same-titled western film, which in turn was a remake of the 1954 japanese classic film seven samurai. the score will be the final james horner score to be released posthumously.

legacy recordings veröffentlicht unter dem titel a boy from tupelo: the sun masters ein 12- vinyl album, mit dem sich der weg elvis presleys zum king of rock and roll nachvollziehen lässt. es versammelt alle a- und b-seiten, die elvis für sun records einspielte sowie weitere im sun studio mitgeschnittene songs, die auf seinem bahnbrechenden debüt aus dem jahr 1965 zu hören sind. die songs wurden von sam phillips produziert und stammen aus der zeit zwischen juli 1954 und juli 1955. begleitet wird elvis natürlich von seinen unvergessenen mitstreitern, dem gitarristen scotty moore und dem bassisten bill black.

dominique lawalree (b. 1954) is a composer born and based in brussels. first meeting is lawalree s first archival release to date. culled from four different albums originally self-published on his private label editions walrus, circa 1978-1982, this compilation highlights the composer s unique sense of ambient and minimal composition. originally considered for release on brian eno s obscure records, lawalree s music is now no longer hidden. in this collection the listener finds the sounds of piano, synthesizers, percussion, wurlitzer, organ, and voice, all performed by lawalree. using these tools dominique creates miniature themes that gallop across the speakers in slow motion, stretching our normal sense of dynamics and color, effortlessly widening the stereo plane. on musique satieerique dominique pays homage to the influence of satie with simple repeated piano figures and a lush field of organs and flutes. and on other selections, like -le maison des 5 elements,- he takes a more wistful, ambient approach, layering keyboard lines, and invoking found/tape sounds to create a hypnogogic world of his own. childlike in its playfulness and surreal to the bone, the music spins like a carrousel placed inside the rothko chapel. lawalree s sense of timbre, tone, and overarching composition is like an impression of a home movie whose charm lies in its knowledge of intimacy, shared by few? an incantation of innocence. a quiet, understated music that is both touching and elegant gavin bryars

paris, 1954. henri-françois rey wrote the thema of the piece la bande à bonnot and asked boris vian to write the songs in order it to become a musical comedy. la bande a bonnot was the name of a french illegal anarchist group. as soon as the piece was played at théâtre du quartier latin, french authorities made it being stopped. musical parts have been lost. 1971, jacques canetti has been told the original handwritten lyrics of the boris vian songs have been found again. jacques canetti asked louis bessières to re create music parts. 1975, jacques canetti released this record with songs being performed by judith magre, yves robert, lucienne vernay, pierre jamet, kim ibarra, maurice barrier & cécile vassort + 2 bonus tracks whose lyrics were suppsoed to be too for the original spectacle.

eleven tracks courtesy the rockers production team, recorded & mixed by sylvan morris and arranged & produced by the mastermind augustus pablo aka horace swaby (born: june 21, 1954 in st. andrew, jamaica / died: may 18, 1999 in kingston, jamaica). the 1984 compilation album -king david’s melody- was longtime not available and it contains music created between 1975 and 1982 for the rockers and message labels, most were released as singles only previously. here’s the re-issue for the 21st century state-of-the-art remastered with the original catalogue number grel170 featuring melodica masterpieces and deep dubs, all built on augustus pablo’s signature rock solid drum and bass foundations.

do we know that jacques canetti recorded jacques higelins first disc in 1965? their meeting dates back to 1954, while jacques higelin was 14 years old and was already singing trénet. canetti used to refuse working with teenagers, whatever their talent. to celebrate his 50 years career, the release of his new album, and a residency to the philharmonie de paris, jacques canettis productions reissue his first album in cd and vinyl format. this edition contains two exclusive duos with the famous french talented singer brigitte fontaine and jimmy walter. the vinyl release comes in gatefold sleeve and includes the album on cd.

die serie der greensleeves lp-wiederveröffentlichungen geht weiter: hier ist das album des sängers linval thomspon aus dem jahre 1983 im originalartwork. *baby father* wurde mit den roots radics und dem bläsersatz bestehend aus dean fraser und nambo robinson im channel one studio aufgenommen. am mischpult saßen dabei soldgie hamilton und der sänger als produzent in eigenregie. linval thompson (geboren als phillip alphonso im jahr 1954) hatte seinen ersten karrierehöhepunkt mit dem kultalbum *dont cut off your dreadlocks* im jahre 1976 für bunny lee. zu diesem zeitpunkt hatte er bereits das studium zum toningenieur in new york abgeschlossen und später begann eine erfolgreiche produzentenkarriere, u.a. dennis brown, cornell campbell, the wailing souls, barrington levy, eek-a-mouse, sowie die zwei scientist alben *meets the space invaders* und *encounters pac man*.

amazing sounds from this great accordeon player from cabo verde! lp gatefold with liner notes in 1997, a quiet, unassuming man of 59 years old named victor tavares better know as bitori walks into a studio for the very first time to record a masterpiece which many cabo verdean consider to be the best funan‡ album ever made. bitori s musical adventure had begun long before this point. it was 1954 when he embarked on a journey across the seas to the island of sao tomŽ & principe. the young mans hope was to return to cabo verde with an accordion.
