the visceral power of one of the most iconic bands in rock and roll first emerged in aberdeen wa in the mid-1980s. in amongst the now revered and widely recognised band scene in seattle during this period, were kurt cobain, krist novoselik and aaron burckhard jointly known as skid row. close friends of the melvins, they were about to embark on a journey that would take cobain and novoselik to world stardom two years later. their session for kaos fm at evergreen state college in 1987 was also their first demo tape and as such, nirvana’s first ever recording session. how pivotal these recordings are in terms of rock history is not really open to question, it’s evidently obvious, but it’s also a priceless opportunity to witness a time and place in rock and roll that can never be repeated. interference very proudly presents the entire original kaos-fm broadcast of skid row (nirvana) live in session from evergreen state college, olympia wa on 17th april 1987. professionally re-mastered original fm broadcast with background liners, interviews and rare archival photos. pressing on 180 gram vinyl.

great debut release and new label from a rubadub shop regular featuring tracks from shop regulars. tip. this first release is made up of 3 tracks from my friends and 1 from myself. there’s no concept here other than putting out music that was otherwise not going to see the light of day. the first track is by bleaker who put out a 12inch on unknown to the unknown last year, the second by miz aka big miz whos been putting out music on dixon avenue basement jams, the third by the burrell connection who has a release on west end communications and a track on a craig knows released compilation and the last track is from myself which got a play on big mizs boiler room set. these tracks were all sent to me around the same time and it felt right to make a place for them on a record. bleaker, miz and the burrell connection have all been making waves in scotland and beyond and these 3 tracks are proof that the attention is warranted. and i dont think my track is too bad either.
the cd included in the lp features the 12 tracks in the same order short info: the calypso is a musical genre that was popularised in the 50’s and exclusively made by men for a long time. but if there is one queen of this movement, it is calypso rose. life hasn’t always been easy for the caribbean diva and she willingly praises a discourse of peace, but engaged, condemning social unfairness and the actual status of women. this all is joyfully sung against a musical background of pure calypso, ska, soca or aga. after a long career of more than 800 songs composed, the dynamic 75 years-old woman is coming back with a new album “far from home-, determined to conquer the hearts of people she hasn’t yet. manu chao, who discovered this “living legend of calypso-, has provided his guitar and voice on 3 of this lp’s tracks, produced by ivan duran. many festivals are scheduled for this summer and the media have already given calypso rose a warm welcome, on a par with the generous performances she delivers on stage. the album will be available on june 3rd, right on time for the summer. make sure the diva accompanies you throughout the holidays !

in the space of two short years shlømo has quickly established himself alongside the likes of marcelus, bambounou, francois x and the antinote records crew as a key figure in paris’ current techno generation. having established his own taapion records label in 2013 and built a roster around a core of local producers including roman poncet, pvnv and antigone, in addition to enlisting stephen brown, conforce and sterac as remixers for the label’s releases so far. for its fifth release, bright sounds - run by fellow parisian kennedy smith - revisits last year’s rechaïm ep (bsrx003), with a trio of remixers offering their own takes on shlømo’s established deep and expansive sound. first up is the aforementioned 50 weapons artist bambounou, who offers a dynamic groove-based version of the title track that bounces along an elastic kick drum with cut-up fragments of the original’s atmospheric pads providing further impetus. label owner kennedy smith takes on theory is the worst by bringing its dub textures to the for while filling the track’s empty spaces with intricate drum patterns. finally, italian techno pioneer donato dozzy turns grounded queen into a classic dozzy slow-burning techno trip, with his trademark layered sound complimenting the track’s subtle rhythmic backbone.

new beginning is aptly titled because its the first time for wordsworth and donel smokes to collaborate on an entire project. the outcome is bliss, from wordsworth’s graphic, storytelling style, accompanied by the scenic sounds of donel smokes, you get pure, no filter hip-hop music. with songs like f.u.(fingers up) featuring blu, or another day featuring masta ace, or do good featuring chali 2na, you get perspective of life, social issues, and ways to rejoice through it all. songs like hate and test of test will definitely spark discussion of reflection, while believe will give you a sense of optimism. this album is a great listen from new beginning to end.
