there’s a good reason new age music has been soaring back to the forefront of the media’s cultural agenda and the population’s consciousness: this planet is a stressful ball of confusion at the best of times, and seeking refuge from reality’s shitstorm has become mandatory for us to regain a semblance of sanity. new age music is an effective coping mechanism in this regard. st. louis-based heavy breathing is one of america’s foremost proponents for the cause, proven here through his meditative “escalators in space” mixtape.

copenhagens terry tester (brownswood / bbe) merges his love for midwest house and cosmic funk butter on four-tracker space million for creak inc., journeying through dream state deep house, gritty mpc workouts and low-end boogie territory for an undeniably original take on four-to-the-floor rhythms. within terry testers two-decade long career as a turntablist and beatmaker his eminent take on house, hiphop and soul has been commissioned by gilles petterson for his ‘bubblers’ compilation series on brownswood recordings, jahi featuring american neo-soul singer dwele, and marc mac (4hero, visioneers, nu era) on bbe remixing alongside dj jazzy jeff, as well as releasing two full-length solo albums horses and diamonds and short suite.
dcs dreamcast continues to effortlessly flow across 7inch wax, following his stellar releases on ppu. he goes in again for future times, with max d on production. outer space is a wistful electro cruiser and up 2 u gives off visions of walking home really early in the morning, confused and happy.
whilst a certain parisian electronic duo were still (probably impossibly chic) toddlers, french band/production space had worked out that making lots of hooky synth disco and wearing space suits in public at all times were a potent pop combination, one that enabled them to sell 12 million records across 4 albums from 1977-81, before imploding in the time honoured fashion of lawsuits and bitter recrimination all round. space was the brain child of french producer jp iliescuo. he assembled a crack band of french session musicians for (at the time) a previously unheard cosmic-disco-synth combination. the unforgettable melodies came from talented young composer didier marouani (also known as ecama). the musicianship from roland romanelli and jannick top, joe hammer and madeline bell.
the debut ep release from amduscias (the evil doppelganger of an already known producer) presents a selection of tracks woven with british folklore and occultist connotation taking the fringes of uk bass music into a dark twisted new pasture, bass and beats ready for the dancefloor but equally horrifying to the headphone listener - skewing techno and dubstep to its farthest reaches.
lp with digital download card. selected by sky girl co-conspirer julien dechery, le raccourci culls 15 tracks from ganderas extensive cassette discography, discarded dat recordings, and split cd with lyon toy music project klimperei. while ganderas nostalgic melodies incidentally parallel with the piano key manoeuvres of pascal comelade, robert haigh and dominique lawalrée, le raccourci could only stem from the escapist desires of one eric morin.
following a killer acid-piano house 12inch and contributing a test pressing-certified new-disco chug to a split release with tuff city kids (both) on terre des pommes in 2014, the working elite further refine their ability to soundtrack festivities with rockman / born again. while rockman conveys an understatedly cinematic mood with repeated imitation string cycles over crisp electro foundations, born again presents a new wave / rave endurance test, summoning perspiration from dedicated day-dancers with its metronomic hammer of a beat overlaid with motivating synth-lines like marching toys. on the flip, saap and lauer (tuff city kids) provide inventive interpretations of these tunes, reshaping rockman into a stomping, flashing-lights electro jam while born again gets a delightfully multi-dimensional digi-dub treatment complete with acid-reggae breakdown over a 4/4 house beat.

cindy is the eulogized muse behind palmbomen ii’s newest collection of limitless dance music. appearing anecdotally in a cable access talk show and a four part 12” ep series episodically scored by palmbomen ii’s patent melodic house and remote, otherworldly fidelity, her story takes stage once more in memories of cindy.

it doesn t get much bigger than this: adam beyer links up with green velvet and drumcode s outstanding rising star layton giordani for a debut collaboration. some musical partnerships feel fated. both fans of one another s work, for years adam beyer and green velvet had discussed writing music together. in turn, beyer s protégé layton giordani had admired the chicagoan s work for as long as he could remember. when the 25-year-old found himself playing alongside the green mohawked legend at belfast s shine, the spark and subsequent friendship was immediate. with the links now set in place, it was only a matter of time before the trio s creative chemistry would manifest musically. ‘space date was conceived organically and birthed quickly. propelled by green velvet s trademark vocal hypnotism, the triumvirate combine to craft a pumping intergalactic slice of techno laced in melody that s highlighted sets by beyer at awakenings, ushuaia and also edc vegas when green velvet dropped it to a raucous response. the track is complimented by rome future , the product of a year-long series of productions between beyer and giordani. deftly combining crisp drum work, catchy vocal effects and a powerful bassline melody that gives the track an almighty kick, it will be familiar to many who ve followed their sets over recent months.

one of the deepest reaching projects from the multifaceted vibraphone stable resurfaces for an extended trip through ambient sonics that marks possibly the most daring departure on the esteemed italian label to date. the harmonious tones undulating throughout sketches from space are instant soothers, taking the odd cue from techno but defiantly beatless and meditative. its a surprising addition to the long and winding vibraphone story, but also feels like one of the strongest steps forward the resurgent label has taken since returning to the fray. just try sinking into lagrangian point l4 and you ll see exactly what we mean.

voin oruwu is a project of kiev-based producer dmitriy avksentiev, also known as koloah. it originated out of avksentiev’s love for cinematography and mystical worlds. inspired by his own post-apocalyptic story, the producer decided he needed a soundtrack and visuals — so, voin oruwu was born, fusing together technology, science, art. he is visual thinker and takes music from cinematic perspective. images that are born in his head are transformed into music. he mixes heavy rhythm and futuristic sound into a single live act.
r.o.s.h. aka roshan chauhan, is already a name to watch, with “will i make the turn?” landing as his third release in a little over a year, having previously released via drumz for eternity and rosh. raised in an indian household in herefordshire the producer and dj is now expanding his ever-growing discography on negative space ma. r.o.s.h.’s latest release takes a darker turn as he morphs woozy memories of his nighttime rituals, from club to car to home as streetlights flicker overhead reliving acceleration though bpm on punchy a-side, “will i make the turn?”. while on the b-side cut “sorry... i can’t”, r.o.s.h. delivers an infectious melancholic ode to the realities of seeing someone you are close to suffer from depression.
african disco album from 1978. no original copies available anywhere for sale. „love in space“ is a soul disco tune that’s smashing every 1970’s jam, reminding a bit of pink floyds „the great gig in the sky“ and scoring with an endless break. the great „galactic interlude“ and the funky deep „beyond the sun“ are an unique mix between african soul and cosmic disco beats. obviously a totally unique sound and a one of a kind album were talended female soul singers meeting intergalactic disco beats. extremely scarce to impossible to find original lp production by mike pilot who also produced the all time cosmic classic „blush – lift off“ during the same year (1978). nobody less than spanish cult producer josep llobell remastered the original master tapes for the new private records release. including large foldout poster. 250 copies!
oddball space disco/fnk tracks, composed between 1970 and 1985. big tip! a master of the mixing board, from the late 60s until the 90s bernard estardy was the wizard of french musical recordings. as head of cbe studios, he shaped everything from gérard mansets concept albums to claude françois hit singles, françoise hardys delicate tear-jerkers and michel sardous soul-stirrers. this giant had his hand in the whole range of mainstream french music by making his studio a veritable playground for experimentation. his legendary album la formule du baron, released in 1969, and the eight lps of production music he made between 1974 and 1978 for tele music are vivid proof. in the cbe studio, which she runs today, his daughter julie estardy discussed his singular career.
transcendentally beautiful, the space ladys music is returning to earth. transmitting messages of peace and harmony, the space lady began her odyssey on the streets of boston in the late 70s, then san francisco ten years later, playing versions of contemporary pop music with an accordion and dressed flamboyantly. following the theft and destruction of her accordion , the space lady invested in a then-new casio keyboard, complete with a phase shifter and headset mic, birthing an otherworldly new dimension to popular song that has captured the imaginations of the underground and its leading exponents ever since.

following on from otis002 jon & hugh - another view, one half of the production duo and otis label boss hugh b steps out on his own for otis003. floating on a trippy biscuit is a 4 track excursion through deep textures, roaming drum machines, sliced breaks and dub echoes. with a nod to early jungle duos (rip), a psychedelic love letter to uk broken beat, a remix from otis family member sean thomas that pays respect to the uk deep scene of the late 90s and a deep, valium-laced house groove designed for post-rave reflection. otis003 is a dreamy meditation amidst the occasional chaos of the rave, a blissful trip through the styles of dance music this label holds dear. early support from: ben fester, simon caldwell, adi toohey and a load of other selectors that are keeping it deep in twenty seventeen
