trek 2013 was another exceptional year for will sauls ever-consistent, no-nonsense aus music imprint. as well as records from the increasingly familiar family fold - dusky, bicep, midland, sei a, leon vynehall - a new batch of producers stepped in as the label welcomed debuts from both huxley and glimpse, along with the return of fellow west country resident, komon (kieren lomax)

following swayzak’s gestures of a sycophant, the third release on beatnik boulevard sees the return of appleblim after he launched the label in style with the conch shell motives ep. this time the berlin-based producer is working alongside long-time collaborator and fellow bristol bassweight alumni komon – the duo have turned out eps for aus music and apple pips in the past, but this 12” represents the first new material from them since 2014. the heads-down, meditative lilt of appleblim & komon’s bristol past looms in the shadows on this ep, but it’s shot through with a steely, modernist dance floor bite and high-end sound design. know yourself pivots around crafty, 2-step kinked drums but there’s plenty of space afforded to atmospheric synth surges that plunge the track into a mood-altering headspace just to the left of the conventional dance floor

following up the chunky slab of festival fuel was huxleys >the machine ep<, the next installment sees the return of long-term label affiliates komon & appleblim for their second collaborative release on aus - motion blur.

pipped is a brand new label from appleblim set up to explore new avenues and directions & get some exciting sounds out there quicker. coming on special one-sided handstamped vinyl, we are very proud to present the first release, a stonking rework of komon & appleblims *silencio* by none other than prins thomas. ever since hearing his amazing work with lindstrom and the killer remixes of hatchback, studio, lcd soundsytem & toby tobias, to name but a a few, it has been a dream to hook something up with him – so here it is, get your heads down and boogie….

kicking off a big year for apple pips with something tasty and different from komon & appleblim! having worked together on remixes for respected labels like ninja tune & aus, appleblim & komonazmuk (now going under the name komon for his house/bass productions) started jamming in the studio on some original material. messing with boundaries and having fun was the order of the day, and what we have here are two of the first results… ’gas jam’ is a bassline-led roller with a nod to both classic uk garage & the futuristic house & techno vibes of uk bass music. getting dropped on rinse fm on both the marcus nasty & hypercolour shows, & with eats everything & carl craig supporting it already you can hear why it appeals to open minded and diverse djs.. ’silencio’ shimmers and shines on a glooped-out balearic/kosmiche beat, an 80s soul soundsystem bassline funks on through and leads you into a woozy blissed out climax…slo-mo house/bass balearic bizniss… with more collabs with appleblim to follow this year, his new productions getting props from all angles, & releases lined up on hypercolour, komon’s year is shaping up nicely!

side a sees the bristol based duo appleblim and komonazmuk join forces once again to create a deep, dubby, techno house remix which fires on all cylinders. appleblim is one of the worlds hottest producers right now, many know appleblim from his legendary work with peverelist under the name skull disco, he also mixed the fifth in the series of dubstep allstars on tempa back in 2008 and is also enjoying the success of his own label apple pips which will see the release of an appleblim and komonazmuk collaborative project inspired by the success of the remixes they have done together. on the flip it s up to marlow to deliver finest dubstep melancholy.

inside out is a brand new series that invites djs and producers to blur the boundaries between traditional artist albums and mix compilations. coming from aus music label head and dj-kicks curator will saul, the concept encourages artists to showcase their own music and or the music of those in their own individual circles. the mix will be release digitally and on cd, while a selection of the tracks will also be available on double gatefold vinyl. each instalment will feature 100% new and unreleased music.

dext recordings is a brand new label kicking off with an ep from dubspeeka complete with remixes from apple pips boss appleblim and aus artist komon and it is a bit of a bristol affair. dubspeeka, the elusive bristol based producer who has released on oliver huntemanns ideal audio, waveform and has remixed for evolution, is sure to become big news in 2014, especially once the world gets to hear this new ep.
