seattle rapper/producer grieves emerged in 2007 with his independently released album, irreversible. in the years that followed, he wholly devoted himself to touring, writing and recording, honing his craft and defining his sound. his 2011 rhymesayers debut, together/apart, was a career landmark and a testament to his growth in both, his writing and delivery, and this progression was re-affirmed by his follow-up, winter & the wolves, in 2014. now, after three years, grieves prepares to reveal further evolution with the release of his new full-length album, running wild.

this is a label that i have been meaning to start for years. however, with a possible twist of fate, it is the right time and the perfect body of music to be able to commit to vinyl. these are records that i am honoured to own and play out. a new label from bristol based artist, thrilogy (also known as lee pattison who previously recorded as deepgroove (rekids, cocoon, klang elektronik, junior boys own). expect -organic dusty sampling deep house and techno from bristol artists and friends further afield- and hand-drawn artwork by local artist anna higgie. thrilogy has previously recorded on wolf music, futureboogie and om records and look forward to an ep on omena with an exciting man power remix. also, ishmael finishes the year on a high, his debut album sometime in space (on church records) showcased the multi-instrumentalist s jazzy house cuts alongside peak time techno and chilling ambient pieces. since then ishmael has been touring his live show, as well as releasing some of the most inventive house music to come out of the uk.

underground trip vol. 1 is the first vinyl realease by artist carmine cioppa aka sleepover for klebmusic label. on side a it features two nice versions of beatz and pieces. the first one is a very clubby banger that contains classic house vocal samples on a great bassy modern beat. loud! a2 is a hypnotic drumbeat flavored with an old school punchy piano that finds its way into a drop, to chill for a second, and then make everybody jump up and scream when the drums build up to start booming again, for younger crowds. so far, real dancefloor, and we could think it is already enough for this 12inch to be bought right away. but its when we listen to the flip side that we find the real nice surprise: deep in the underground is a wondefully laid track that really reminds us of the 90s club sound of epic labels like bassline and big big trax. on this beautiful classy tune, organ, background samples, bass and rhythm section melt into a very special old fashioned atmosphere that takes us back in time, and the piano solo by sep sarno gives it a great passionate touch. jazzy, groovy, sturdy classic deep house with a very modern finish that will always be a gem. timeless.

thirty years ago, british youth culture was changed forever. the summer of love in 1988 saw house music spread like wildfire over the country, with thousands of young people dancing in fields, clubs and any spaces they could find.
one of the tracks that truly encapsulated this magical time was stirling void’s “it’s alright”. originally released on chicago’s seminal label dj international, the spine-chilling lyrics of positivity resonated in the hearts and minds of the acid house generation and are more relevant in today’s climate than ever. to celebrate 30 years since the summer of love, toolroom is proud to present a monumental remix package of this all-time classic, alongside the fully re-mastered original.
first up on remix duties is one of house music’s most intriguing artists. adesse versions has a back catalogue of highly sought-after records, and he’s treated this remix with utmost respect, keeping the track’s essence and identity, but adding a new layer of raw warmth and subliminal melody. next up, house legend dj spen has stepped up to the plate with his own interpretation. his jazzy, soulful keys have added a layer of polish and musicality to the track, which combine beautifully with paris brightledge’s iconic vocals.

danish composer the swan and the lake is at it again with his trademark widescreen soundscapes wrapped around eight new tracks of exquisite scandinavian balearica. with the release of his first album -moments- last year on copenhagen’s music for dreams, we were introduced to a unique artistic vision. with one foot in the ambient chill out spectrum and the other in everything from classical avantgarde, idm and jazz, the music of emil svane breum under his alias the swan and the lake is both very accessible yet complex. on his new album -clouds- we see him expand on those same ideas and with seemingly simple means achieve extraordinary strong emotions. opening side a, the jazzy intro of -fresh food- leads us into a sublime piece of hazy ambient groover that could easily be mistaken for a lost 80s production from japan. -clouds over Østerbro- keeps things playfully cool and adds elements of scat singing and xylophones, layered over breum’s shimmering bright chords. while the title suggests we are still on danish soil, this feels like a five minute vacation to a tropical paradise. guitarist johan liepstack makes a guest appearance on -summer in december- which comes off as an understated anthem that could break out into euphoria at any second, but manages to stay in a sombre state all the way through. on the track -plastic pacific ocean remake- we are visited once more by airy vangelis-like vocals which assume the role of a nurturing angel, guiding us to a comforting state of relaxation and healing, as breum lays down an overwhelmingly beautiful synth serenade with chords that hit you right at the core of your most vulnerable state. flip over for the mallorca inspired track -port d andratx- which comes in two versions - part 1 (sun) shines like a perfect escape into that cafe del mar/ hostal la torre sunset while the more deep and melancholic part 2 is aptly named rain. the gentle trickling of -waterfalls- sees breum mimic the eternal cycle of water, creating an organic and ethereal composition that stretches out seemingly without beginning or end. and finally on -heaven’s voice- we see breum in his most epic and emotional mood, as he steers us through a slow explosive force of cinematic sounds. it all ends with a heartfelt spoken word contribution by guest vocalist neonbi.

for record store day 2017 razor-n-tape presents icarus, an original song by lovebirds, with remixes from tall black guy, moods, and jkriv in a striking double 7inch package. giving the shine to their 45 series for this years record store day, rnt welcomes back lovebirds aka sebastian doering with a slice of chilled-out analog soul. although primarily known for his nu-disco and house productions, lovebirds is a seasoned hand at all things deep, and icarus shows the smoky late-nite side of basti s skilled production style. an all-original tune, icarus layers jazzy vintage electric pianos over restrained but head-nodding percussion, with galliano s soulful vocal soaring above it all. the ever consistent tall black guy delivers a 90 s-esque boom-bapper of a mix, with an added verse from 80 s babies for good measure. moods works the track into a slo-mo stomper on his mix, complete with stuttering synth bass and driving percussion. and rounding out the package is rnt s jkriv, with a beachy stripped-down retro-boogie remix perfect for those warm-weather months to come. each mix gets its own side in this double 7inch pack, with stunning full color artwork, making it a truly special package perfect for both collectors and djs alike

the guys at pole jam vinyl have spent most of the last year involved in an undying quest to seek out new, exciting music. they would neither be stopped by the russian tundras nor the deserts of australia in their search. funnily enough, it was actually down-under they discovered sydney based duo falqo with their brilliantly chilled and melodic number across the sea . then, it really was across the sea they went, all the way to the ukraine, picking up sasha anastasov s laidback, groovy smasher sea for two . next up was a much shorter trip to moscow to collect gayana, a band very much on the rise whose since the night has been perfectly reinterpreted by pole jam s very own st. petersburg based all-stars klar&pf. pioneerball is the solo project of tesla boy s lead guitarist who makes his second appearance on pole jam vinyl. this time pioneerball contributes the stunning opening track deltaplane , a track influenced by obscure russian cinematic soundtracks. it s combined perfectly with a compelling disco groove, jazzy melodies and organic strings that will make your heart melt.

late last year music for dreams released the digital album -debut- by bongo entp. this passion project from veteran studio session player jacob andersen brought us an unexpectedly fresh take on south american music traditions. on this new vinyl release, the project is both revisited and expanded upon. cherry picking some of the grooviest cuts from the album for this ep, we also get remix treatments from well sourced collaborators selvagem & carrot green. both hailing from brazil, these producers certainly know how to work latin percussion on a dancefloor. taking on the dreamy cover version of henri mancini’s classic -lujón- (original included too), carrot green ups the tempo and wrangles the elements of the original into something completely different. adding a house kick and dark acid undertones, he takes you on a wet trip with lots of twists and turns. the production duo of selvagem manage something similar with one of the looser bongo entp. jams. the original -foto feita do aviaõ is a jazzy scat sinaalong tune. in selvagem’s hands, it turns into an epic cosmic disco groover, locked into place by a muscular baseline. the vocal chants of the original are here, but used in a lower key and more sparingly to punctuate the bounce of the rhythm. the vinyl includes two other album highlights - the cafe del mar classic -el rey de pollo- , a santana-style chill-out affair featuring mikkel nordsø of bombay hotel fame and finally the moody -spanish winter- with its robotic reggae-like groove and syrup-thick synthesizers bubbling in a bittersweet fashion. a superb package.

deep house/us garage veterans mateo & matos have been around longer than the ark. yet they remain capable of great things, as >want u tonight< proves. its a deliciously dizzy deep house concoction that marries contemporary production (see the beefy bottom end) with the twittering synth melodies and loopy organ hooks of old new york house and garage (think nu groove meets henry street). studio54s remix is classic new york deep disco house, while trevor loveys version has more of a uk jazzy house swing. all the mixes are wonderfully slick and groovesome. swayzak & phreek plus one deep symphoniac mixes is wonderful for morning and chill gigs.

ia2 showcases all kinds of broken beats and trademark here provide another 3 varied tracks, with great support all round. new frontiers is a funky, upbeat broken dancey track and has had loads of support from promos. great progression through the track and some great riffs and percussion. outworld has been compared to early earth stuff from bukem and cafe del mar stuff, deep broken beats and sunny pads, great arrangement. lovely deep bass and textures. south central is a more straight up broken track, probably the most chilled of the bunch live live sounding bass and a nice deep vibe.

ia stands for 4/4 beats and the label starts with a bang with three great and quite different 4/4 tracks for many deep and tech floors, and tropic of capricorn for more chilled moments. elevator is crisp deep/tech house which slowly builds and just rocks! with a wicked solid deep bassline too that keeps things really groovy. jack o diamonds also has that clean crisp sound and groovy bass with synth stabs and lots of funk for loads of different dancefloors. its a bit more upbeat than elevator and also has wicked deep bass to keep peeps movin! saturn 5 is deeper, darker, subtle and just a massive deep phat sound which is totally awesome on any decent system, wonderful deep textures and pads - just really lush. tropic of capricorn is a deep detroity broken beat track that compliments the others. crisp production again and not too cluttered, it does what it needs to and works in many different situations.

recently landing on the nite grooves shores from japan, this most recent double a side is the third great electronic endeavor to be issued. the first, nami is a tripped out loungey mover where synth stabs dominate throughout. a deep faded bassline is added and together with a classic house hi hat makes for a well rounded instrumental. aso is a mellow non invasive, non vocal perfect for the side chill room jazzy piano riffs, violin strings, light clavs & bubbly bass line all make a nice sauce
