from the tropics comes whiskey disco, a sneaky re-edit label bent on dredging the decanter for diffident dancefloor genius from latent disco perpetrators. it is loosely connected to sleazy mcqueen and his assorted cohorts.
oslo-based, icelandic producer, b.g. baarregaard, returns to whiskey disco for his third solo ep, disco inn. the title song features a talented roster of icelandic-via-oslo musicians. inga Þyri coos blissful harmonies atop a deep groove comprised of electric guitar chucks by sigurður guðmundsson and organ and bass by baarregaard. this deep groove will work those balearic moments to-a-tee. on the reverse, undercover lover exposes rnb style vocals, delayed claps and bass groove on the outside cut and country style guitar sitting comfortably next to 303 acid on the inside for kaffibarinn, an homage to the legendary reykjavik music venue.

black drop effects is named after the black drop effect, the dark bridge which appears to join two almost-touching bodies against bright light: famously, venus becoming teardropshaped on its transit across the sun, just before it moves into the darkness of space. all four tracks on this ep from italian-born producer palese are named after scientific aspects of the planet venus, confirming that industrial can most certainly still be intriguing. the ep surprises you with twists and turns, defying any stereotypical assumption of techno being all uniform monotony.

now nighttripper records is born! the first is from the us native scott scheferman it is a cold stomper with jerky sounds and stomping distorted 909 kick. on a pleasant bpm still playable in any techno set. watch out for this guy! on the remix we have robert armani who delivers a minimal but ruthless effort for the big room and will please the hardcore fans on the b side orlando strikes back as the nighttripper with some funky mayhem!

one of las smartest young voices says the la times…which the artist suspects, may just be a covert way of saying la is dumb. “open” mike eagle wouldnt terribly mind, being born and raised in chicago where the painful winters and his uppity grandparents kept him inside as a youth. he spent his formative years watching alternative music happen on mtv and hoping to one day be able to audition for the native tongues. as a young adult after graduating with a degree in psychology, he did the next best thing and moved to los angeles, joining the project blowed collective where he made music and toured with busdriver, aceyalone, abstract, nocando, and more. he has also gained notoriety in the world of comedy by being invited by professional funny people (paul f. tompkins, hannibal buress, matt besser/ucb) to rap at their shows. he would like to be raps kurt vonnegut but recognizes that he would first have to create something as iconic as the four-stroke illustration of an anus. he practices by releasing rap albums that delight, entertain, and confuse.

up and coming portuguese producer lewis fautzi is quickly becoming a name to look out for in techno. championed by the likes of jeff mills and slam, fautzis hypnotic, tracky sound is much in demand. in may 2014 figure label founder len faki opened his boiler room berlin set with a new lewis fautzi production, the beatless intro vibes of >diagonal<, and thus a new ep was born on figure.

new york endless is the first appearance on vinyl of new jersey born new yorker dan selzer. you may not have heard of him, but many of your favourite producers, bands and djs massively respect his record collection and ear. many of the sounds he has spent years exploring and djing can be heard via the three tracks that make up the strategies ep. elements of techno and house, idm, italo-disco and new wave, cosmic and kosmiche, krautrock and a certain debt to the new york school of minimalist composers all appear. the music is pure and (mostly) analog while still centred around accessible melodies and clean synthesized tones. golf channel every time!
