next big time smasher on get freaky! feat. strong remixes by by steve n king / groovestylerz aka rockstroh / 2-4 grooves this is a must have tune so check it out!
another serious result from our warehouse rummaging! si begg is a man of many musical personalities, his list of aliases is impressive to say the least (bigfoot, buckfunk3000, lenny logan, s.i. futures, zygmunt janowski...). but one of his oldest, and certainly one of his strangest, is cabbage boy. in fact i confess i am old enough to remember his releases in the early 90s on cassette tape under the umbrella of the >cabbage head collective< (which also included such techno notables as cristian vogel & tim wright) - and pretty mental they were too. the lost tapes vol. 1 doesnt disappoint on that front, containing such gems as a remix of 80s pop mysteries frank chickens>we are ninja<, and an electronic cover version of >king kong< by frank zappa (ask your parents...). totally out there, but totally cool at the same time...highly recommended to anyone looking for something with some real personality amidst the hard-drives full of faceless (and usually nameless) digital fluff
new zealand’s finest returns to king unique’s curfew imprint magik johnson’s last cross-genre mutant release on curfew >asylum sneaker< picked up fans from adam beyer to claude von stroke, sasha to jesse rose and found it’s way onto danny tenaglia’s latest compilation. so we at curfew are grinning from ear to ear as we introduce it’s twisted younger brother >straight face<, complete with two superb remixes to give you a package that we’ve had great pleasure road testing over the last few weeks.

the >king of epic< returns to storming for a sick three tracker, and from the opening track its not hard to see why there is so much excitement surrounding this promising producer. a tension building intro and huge breakdown set the scene for bomb jack, before dropping in to a dirty, gritty roller. receiving support from caspa, rob da bank, the others and joe nice to name a few.

osbornes ruling came out on influential us label spectral sound earlier this year, and has been racking up some fantastic support already. an emotive piece of lush deep house, ruling is an unashamed throwback to the early halcyon days of chicago and new york house music. a perfect slice of deepness for the warmer months...shur i kan is becoming ever present on the nrk roster of late, hes one of our favourite brit producer/remixers, and he stays faithfull to the original mix of ruling here but drags it onto the dancefloor somewhat with some stronger beats and heavier bottom end. king britt, meanwhile, opts for a heady, darker pounding drum remix, with spacious chords and freeform jazz flicked riffs. a little scubambient mix is also included here...

limited to 500 copies on coloured vinyl !!! the mysterious intrusion project (feat. on echospace 007) emerges once again and delivers another epic release. throughout the original mix of >tswana dub< you find smooth textured pads and a bassline even the mighty king tubby would surrender to. the melodies evolve in slow motion over time as the synth hits open and close into a fierce midnight skanking session so lo-fi you would think this was recorded at studio 1 in the 1960s. on the flip side brendon moeller serves up heavy bass reductions, live melodicas, brass sections and spatially aware dub fx. the phase90 mix dissects intrusions original into a full spectrum spatial affair as deep as the sea, epic and beautiful...
played by sebo k, karotte... layo and bushwacka! are equally at home turning out summery housey affairs as they are peak time stormers, and >now is the time / the time was then definitely fits into the latter category. a double header, the loose concept behind the release is to represent the sound of the dancefloor now versus the sound from a few years ago. >now is the time< has its feet placed firmly in 2008 - a crisp, clean techno bassline, topped by hand claps, snatches of breathy female vocal, and full of an irresistible array rattles, whooshes and other indefinable sounds that the duo seem to pull from the depths of their imaginations. it breaks with some simple electronic sounding chords and a stirring martin luther king sample that makes this record so memorable. >the time was then< is based around that same sample, but gives a cheeky nod to a few years back, with a bassline and keys that wouldnt have sounded out of place on their seminal ‘night works’ album. it never goes too far towards nostalgia, though, and either would rip up a late night dancefloor
legendz records is the normal follow up of famous legendz parties which started in belgium three years ago . for their first release, they decided to invite two belgian producers from two different musical horizons and see how it goes . kolombo is famous for his electro house style with releases on king kong, turbo, systematic, karate, his own vice versa or loulou records. sierra sam is more into the minimal world with music on trapez ltd., einmaleins, his own toys for boys and soon contexterrior the two friends decided to mix their skills on three tracks: alive is based on a fat synth line and rolling bleepy percussions, articulated around a vocal sample. extra voices takes another vocal sample , but adds it a more acid synth line and some more percussive drum soundsscreaming lord is a more aggressive track with more noises and fast percussion lines..
black affair, the audacious new project from steve mason (beta band / king biscuit time) return with new single its real, which includes a fantastic playgroup remix
nice price deal !!! chez music presents rob salmon triumph. a strong organ led track that brings back an early 90s house vibe reminiscent of a vintage maw dub with comtemporary techy influences. scott wozniak (defected / king street) hot off his dj gomi glad i found you remix takes things up a notch with a slamming dubby/faya combo styled version. a classic in the making!
dopplerefekt-like electro tracks !! a unique collaboration between two electro legends. the master and pioneer of old school electro meets swedens famous electro king for a dark n deep electro excursion into the land of booming 808 s and analogue synths. two continents, two minds, two versions. also bonus beats by the lover, and a faceless mind reconstruction
