acid house pioneer jaime read is one of the few uk artists who has had the dubious honour of being ripped off by chicago house royalty. never one to let this early setback hold him back, jaime has gone on to an illustrious career, producing great music since the early nineties, and more recently in collaboration with legendary uk deejay felix dickinson under the name l.h.a.s. inc (larry heard appreciation society) this 4 track solo ep sees him mastering a variety of styles. the opener is a dreamy emotional r&b number called is it real what u feel? which features a gorgeous vocal turn from jaime himself. kaanlile floats a sumptuous melodica line over some mellow electro influenced acid. deep cut rolling dreams has slinky piano, soaring house strings, more vocals and strong ecstasy vibes. finally, a night in shirley closes out the ep in a beautiful boogie influenced, relentless but mellow groove

mosco fell asleep and awoke days later with red axes. this is their joint offering for the esp institute. dikembe manutu, the fictional character whos name gives title to our thumping a side, establishes a lush theme based on meandering steel drums and reverberating toms while a slew of rich percussion leads us through the jungle on a melodic galloping bassline. once this deep groove gets us rolling, were treated to a variety of twinklling melodies that float high above. on side b, rage in the cage is a true live drum machine jam, full of bleeps, detuned toms, abrasive cymbals, and plenty of left turns. we can only imagine the mood in the studio as these three old friends frantically smacked buttons and tweaked knobs, creating happy accidents and loving every menacing moment of chaos as they stirred this cauldron. these two songs will make you thirst for exotic nectars.

gerry rooney (black cock) and joel martin (quiet village) return with two strong cuts on new label love shot records! opener -el dorado- is a curious affair, taking loops from a long-forgotten, disco-era spanish dance record and turning it into a rolling, late night chugger. arguably even better is -limitless & free-, which cuts up and rearranges a suitably obscure chunk of stoner funk-rock. wisely, they emphasize the low-slung groove, rising strings and swirling synthesizers, occasionally utilizing select sections of the original s sleazy, come-to-bed vocal.

citrus recordings present the fugitive ep by zero t and mindmapper & silvahfonk. dancefloor sounds with class made by producers you should keep an eye out for. fresh of his sophomore album on dispatch recordings, zero t continues to impress with impeccable skill and style when it comes to producing drum & bass. *the funnel* is based around deep stabs and raging mid bass sounds over powerfull rolling beats. signature zero t sounds right here. on the flip an exciting duo takes over with a track called *the fugitive*. dutch drum & bass frontrunners mindmapper & silvahfonk manage to deliver a techno infused stepper with plenty of weight to keep the dancefloor going. essential.

gable & grant are joined by harlow in this next instalment of the diaries volumes. on the third release they explore more rolling, pacy grooves whilst still maintaining that familiar brand of melancholic, washed out nostalgia. the b side here is a proper floor burner with a choice vocal sample mixed in for good measure.

swedish underground powerhouses mr tophat & art alfie return to bass culture with their second ep for the label after the phenomenal success of their first outing, which picked up strong support from across the scene, particularly from ricardo villalobos. this time around, they drop two hefty slabs of disco-tinged house imbued with their own distinct flavour throughout. ‘dub the rub’ pumps along with an infectious groove, tough percussion powers along with a rolling bassline. watch out for the vocal-led breakdown midway through, killer! on the flip, ‘fnatt’ works around a more traditional melodic house motif, tender and bright with a lush b-line and captivating vocals made to move your body and soul.
